Beating the game on Hard difficulty unlocks "one-life mode", which i believe is just the same thing as expert but it restarts the entire level if you die instead of putting you at the beginning of the section. To my knowledge it's exactly the same as hard difficulty but with one life instead of infinite lives. So a TAS of this game would most likely be done on Hard difficulty unless one-life mode turns out to be different. I can also provide a verification movie to skip cutscenes.

Thank you for the response. I'll keep that in mind when switching disks. Thankfully there is a loading screen right after the disk change so there is no reason to use savestates in that time. You also don't have to change back to disk 1 so that's really good.

Hello, everyone! My name is FitterSpace and I want to start working on a Goldeneye: Rogue Agent TAS sometime this year. This game is extremely broken due to many out-of-bounds glitches and also relies on clearing rooms with lots of enemies very quickly. I think it would make for a very entertaining TAS. Unfortunately there are a few problems with this game. The biggest problem being that this is one of the very few multi-disk Gamecube games. I'm not aware if Dolphin supports a single .dtm file for a multi-disk game. Please let me know if it does. The second problem is that this game has unskippable cutscenes unless you play on a save file. There are other movies on TASvideos such as Luigi's Mansion that play on New Game+ and Goldeneye: Rogue Agent should be no different. Playing this game on a save file is very similar to the original Goldeneye 007 on N64. The gameplay itself is no different but being able to skip cutscenes would make the TAS much better in every way. Kirchinator and I are currently the only RTA runners for this game, and I think it's very underrated. We are still finding many new glitches and time saves so a TAS would be very awesome to watch. I will edit this post and add any time saves that get found. Time saves currently known in this game These are various time saves that are completely possible: Strafe Slamming and Fort Knox skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqRpg6-OxP4 Hong Kong Window Jump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4nq_nsNeDU Midas Casino elevator skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oof9H1yTM-4 OMEN device early: https://youtu.be/_Fc7Wzb3WrM?t=1m13s Crab Key Mining Skip: https://youtu.be/2T-BlBmlolE?t=4m8s (We need a better name for this skip) Small time-saves and Crab Key warehouse skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ex2Al9fWCBA (New!) Possible time saves These are potential time saves that aren't possible right now, but may be in the future: Volcano Lair last room skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WixhXpHENw (New!)

I've extracted the FileSystem of a game i've been glitch hunting in lately. There are a lot of settings in a config file that you don't have access to in the regular game. Lots of options like Debug mode and visible hitboxes which would make finding new glitches a lot easier. I'm able to edit these settings in the Extracted files but those files aren't in an ISO any more, so Dolphin can't open them. I've tried using tools like the Gamecube ISO tool to re-pack the files into an ISO but Dolphin won't open those ISOs. I've also used other generic programs but the ISOs don't appear to be the same type. All i want is to be able to change a few settings in one of the files for the game. Is there a convenient way to do that?

Wow, that's a great find! :) I've been wondering, how does the clipping method in this game work? I can't tell what people are doing in videos other than the fact they crouch with watch....then stand up? Could anybody be so kind as to explain what is happening?
Aleckermit has a video that explains clipping very well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKbKej1mkRs He explains it in that video much better than I could with text. Basically you can wedge yourself under an object that prevents you from uncrouching while trying to stand up. This will push your feet through the floor and allow you to fall through.

So I just found this today: Link to video Saves over 2 minutes of waiting in Countdown, so that's pretty awesome.

The in-game timer in this game is not very accurate. It doesn't include cutscenes in the on-foot levels but i'm not sure about the driving levels or autoscrollers.

Gamerfreak, aleckermit, and I have officially started working on a new Nightfire TAS! I did the first level (as you seaw in a post earlier) Gamerfreak is working on the second level now.

Link to video This is a TAS of The Exchange on 00 agent in 2:17 (according to the in-game timer). This is roughly 4 seconds faster than the current published TAS. The biggest time save is a new clip that was discovered in the party section that saves about 4 seconds. So there are a few things that I want to mention about this TAS. 1) Control Scheme Difference This TAS uses the Nightfire control scheme, while the current published TAS uses Classic Bond. I took a few extra frames in the menu to select nightfire controls, but i actually ended up saving a few frames overall because of better menuing. But that's not the biggest time difference. Classic Bond controls allow for a higher maximum speed compared to Nightfire controls. However, Classic Bond controls lose time every time you change your angle. The reason for this is because to strafe you must hold up on the control stick. To change your angle you have to move the control stick, which means you aren't holding up, which means you lose speed and momentum. This is especially true if you want to turn around a corner. Classic Bond loses a lot of time in areas where you have to make a lot of turns. This TAS loses about one second in the first section because Nightfire has a slower maximum speed. However, it ends up saving about one second over the course of the rest of the level so it's pretty much even. Other levels are different, though. Some levels have a Classic Bond advantage while others have a Nightfire advantage. I think the time difference between the two is minimal so I chose to use the control scheme i'm most familiar with. I can answer any questions you have about this subject if you have any. 2) Jumping up the slopes in the first section saves about 4 frames per jump. If you notice, i could have done 3 jumps on the last slope but I only did one. This was because doing 3 jumps meant the guards would have seen me earlier and they would have gotten in my way. Not doing those two jumps means they had less time to react and I just ran past them. 3) Mashing Y while going up stairs saves time. I saved about 10 frames on the way up to the safe room in the last section compared to just running up the stairs normally. The fastest way to go up stairs is to jump onto them and mash Y until you get all the way up. 4) Going through the window in the last section is roughly half a second faster than clipping through the painting like the current TAS does. 5) The new clip in the Party sections saves a little over 4 seconds Gamerfreak, please message me on Discord as soon as you see this. I would love to talk to you about working with aleckermit on a new TAS. I think this would make a great start for it.

I'm trying to play a .dtm file make on Dolphin 3.5-1060 (yes, it's a rather old movie). The movie syncs perfectly on the version it was made with. The problem i'm having is that the movie file doesn't even seem to work on any other dolphin revision i have. I have 3 different ones. The .dtm doesn't desync, it just doesn't even start to begin with. Does anybody know of a way to play old movie files on more recent dolphin versions?

So the theoretical night shift skip probably isn't going to happen. At least not the way i've been trying to get it. Maybe i'll find a way later but right now i'm a bit short on ideas. Jumping from the vent is just short of getting up there. Clipping probably won't help much unless you can seamwalk somewhere. I had a lot of ideas for potential clips but none of them seem to work right now.

This is a theoretical skip we could do on Night Shift: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXSRXb5-cn8&feature=youtu.be I used the moon jump cheat to get myself onto the roof earlier than you're supposed to. The great thing is that the parachute spawns up there and you can finish the mission early. This is not possible to do at the moment, but if anybody can figure out a way to do this, it would save quite a bit of time. For some reason the game doesn't check if you've completed all of the objectives at the end of the level. This is one of the few levels that's like this. EDIT: My idea to getting up there involves going up the elevator and jumping before you open the vent. Then for a brief moment you can jump on the vent again as it's opening. This is essentially a double jump, but i can't get to the top. It's so close but it's just barely out of reach. I'm gonna keep trying since the angle and timing may be extremely specific.

So this got found earlier today: https://youtu.be/TEP1F_7avwg?t=21s This is a small skip you can do in the last section of Phoenix Fire. Instead of having to break that large window and hit a button to open the shutter, you can just clip around it. This means that you don't have to get the Scorpion since you don't need to break the glass. This is a rough route for Phoenix Fire so far: 1) Kill the first guy in red and pick up his frag grenade 2) Clip on the wooden door and fall down the stairwell to get to the last door in section 1 3) At the start of the 2nd section get out the frag grenade while you're going toward the locked door. Then throw the grenade into the corner before typing in the code to open the door 4) After typing in the code, the door will open and the grenade should explode soon after 5) The grenade explosion should blow up the windows in the next room (the explosion goes through walls). This way you don't have to waste any time breaking the windows in that room. You can just go right through without waiting 6) do this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrKYFqaNYYU&index=5&list=LLmvxbjCmUnS8EpjXs2uTgqg 7) Skip the elevator sequence with a frame perfect clip 8) Do the clip shown in the first link in this post Overall i estimate that this whole level will take 45 seconds or less.

Yeah I would love to work on a new TAS. I was thinking about waiting until the summer to start. My reasoning is that new stuff is being found every day and i'll have more free time during the summer. I'm definitely on board with having both of you work on the TAS. My only condition is that I do Phoenix Fire and Chain Reaction (which is my favorite level). I would also like to work on parts of other levels like Night Shift but we'll have to decide that later on. I don't know if you've been following Nightfire for the past few months, Gamerfreak, but it's been crazy. Tons and Tons of new improvements have been found. If you have Discord I would be happy to invite you to the Nightfire server. I can show you all of the new stuff there. Edit: I PM'd you an invite, gamerfreak
I'm all in for this! Glad to hear even more improvements are being found. Can't wait to see it! btw, I accepted the discord chat invite.
Nice. I sent you a message on discord. I'd love to talk to you about new improvements

so this got found just now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKx03mprvDk We can skip the ronin. This definitely saves time. No doubt. The clip shown in the video in the previous post combined with this will make Chain Reaction about 1:30. Compare that to the several minutes it takes in the current TAS. As of right now I believe we have found about 5 minutes of improvement so far. I will continue to post here when we find new tricks that save a decent amount of time.

So this also got found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PU37svAb5Dg This video shows a new way to clip into the TR-2 building. It saves a lot of time over doing the first section normally. The alternative way to do this clip is to place a Ronin in the OoB space to reset your position. You will then be in the building. The reason this clip may be faster is because you don't have to wait for the crazy long animation that the Ronin does when you want to pick it up again. Further testing will need to be done to determine how much time this saves, if any. (and i really hope it's faster because this is a cool clip)

So this got found today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSg1jfqQlR8 The video above shows a way to clip into the elevator loading zone on Night Shift much faster than any other method. It was discovered by OllieNK. The only problem is that the clip Ollie did doesn't seem to work on the NTSC version of the game (Ollie plays on PAL). I spent about an hour trying to find a setup and figuring out when to crouch but I got nothing. Ollie was getting the clip in real time pretty often and I had no idea what was different. Lo1ts figured out that you can clip into the other elevator door very easily on the NTSC version, which is what you see in the video. This wouldn't be the first time a clip differed between versions. I'm not sure exactly how much time it saves but I believe it's around 10 seconds. Ollie and I have been trying to find new time saves for the past few weeks and we have found quite a bit of new stuff.

1. Does it always clip you underground? 2. If so, are there any instances where you may get "stuck"?
Clipping in this game will always put you through the ground. You can only clip through walls in some very specific cases. However, It's really common to be able to clip through the ground, move a certain distance, and then jump to get back inbounds. Using this, you can clip underneath walls instead of going through them. It doesn't work everywhere, but it works in a lot of places. I couldn't get the new clip to work in section 1 of Chain Reaction, and it was tough to get in certain parts of countdown. Also sometimes you will pop back inbounds after changing elevations (going up or down stairs is a good example). Sometimes, I will go OoB for a few frames then pop back inbounds. I'm not sure what causes this, but i will play around with the glitch some more. I have currently found two uses for this glitch: 1) There is a faster clip you can do in the party section on The Exchange 2) You can skip the elevator sequence in Phoenix Fire, which saves over a minute.
