it should be possible to get all the rings in HT2 with tails control. (although you may still be missing one or two) for an idea of the strategy you'd need to use, you can watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F0vtVhcsNBE

the only things that would change are lag frames, capsules, and gambling.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought 2 claws does double damage. for about double the attack animation time. I guess you would save equip time.

But doesn't "TASer of the year" award the work the TASer has done? Doesn't fighting against a crappy emulator play into the work he has done?
In that case, nitsuja should win this award hands down. Let me remind you that he developed a new re-recording emulator (.wtf) to be able to TAS the game he wanted to TAS.
Yes, I think the work a TASer does is important, more important though, is the quality of TASes created because of such work. Otherwise we could have someone work year round every day, create a crappy TAS, and give him the TASer of the year award, which I don't think should be done. this in my mind would put nitsuja hands down ahead of mrgrunz. he created an emulator to TAS a specific game, worked hard on said game, and eventually won the TAS of the year award because of said game. and he also worked on another TAS as well, something mrgrunz didn't do. however, since "TASer of the year" is such a subjective award, it still wouldn't be wrong to vote for him. but it seems clear to me that he shouldn't get my vote.

if I recall, "no rings" is impossible except in hacks. I for one would be amazed by a "highest score run" (with no deaths of course) preferably with knuckles. Even if it's not perfectly optimized.

MrGrunz FTW! He did an EXCELLENT job with the Majora's Mask TAS.
while it is a great TAS, I don't think it's enough alone for a "TASer of the year award"

I have an idea... kinda weird idea.
You'd need to bounce a lot more to gain that much height. Knuckles can grab them, but I think there's other rings that are impossible to grab no matter the character.

I don't know Felipe. Do you have a Camhack of Genesis so that you can see Tails off-screen? Because it really doesn't feel like your using tails to his full potential. Such as in Emerald Hill Zone 1, you don't have him go through the floor (by being off-screen) so that he can get you the rings in the ..floor..? @ 0:14->0:16 so that you don't need to back-track in there?
I'm not sure exactly you're talking about. keep in mind that tails can only grab rings that are slightly off screen.

in my opinion it wouldn't be important unless it ended up saving time on the capsule. Because if not, the movie time would end up being exactly the same. However, it might be nice to know that everything is "perfect" in a published run. especially if nobody is planning on working on an improvement anytime soon. (and I have a feeling this run will hold for a long time, but what do I know). in the end it would be your decision of course.

should have mentioned this earlier but I think there's a one frame improvement to sy3 just before the zip possible (by standing up one frame earlier.) I guess I should have just posted here instead of trying to find you guys on mirc. (I havn't checked the new gmv to see if you actually fixed this or not) P.S. now that I think about it this probably won't even matter since you'll probably just have to add an extra pause to the capsule at the end of the level anyway.

what about breakable items. some of them respawn (the rocks in hill top zone) as do one or two ring boxes. also, why do you have to collect all the emeralds by the end of emerald hill, couldn't you space them out a bit and make it more entertaining? I think this would be the fastest way as well.

I would certainly watch a 100% run, although the publishability might be questionable.
my thoughts exactly. also it's funny how many people share the thought that they'd like to see a 100% run, but don't think other people share that desire.

you know how crazy a knux score attack TAS of s3k would be? this crazy: http://www.soniccenter.org/forum/index.php?topic=2586.msg52622#msg52622 (note: you need an account on soniccenter.org to download the attachment.) PS: for planing purposes, this is probably one of the easier levels to do as well.

You know it's possible to get one of those two rings right? Also, I think you should use sonic + tails possibly taking control of tails, so that you can get more rings and perfect bonuses. Can you get the last ring inside the pillar by controlling tails? Also you shouldn't make a hack to move rings into accessible locations, if you do what are you demonstrating? that you can make a hack that moves rings in such a way that you can get a perfect bonus on every level? If you decide to do a max score run instead I think you should use sonic 2 and knuckles since the score attacks as knuckles involve crazy, long combo chains, and are really fun to TAS. Also zeupar, stop trying to get me to actually do work! :P

I'm floored by the improvements you managed to find. I can't figure out how to zip in a useful way in SY3.

and just like that the movie that I worked so hard to make "perfect" is no longer perfect :( Great trick though! you're finding new glitches in sonic games left and right! it's amazing.

I can't find any other places this would be useful, where would it help in spring yard zone?

very excited about this script work. can't wait to see how the capsules turn out. also aglar, why did you roll off the hill near the start of act 1, shouldn't that slow you down slightly? the improvements are pretty awesome, it's amazing how fast GHZ is getting.

you're right, I was sort of going by the times the youtube videos were posted, and my memory. (9 days from the post of disc one to the post of disc 4) but looking at the thread, the last mention of a restart was may 11th (18 days before the post of disc 4) so it was probably 3-4 weeks from when he restarted the TAS and completing it, plus he probably didn't do a full restart, and only went back as far as he saw any mistakes. I don't mean to say anything bad about the run, he obviously worked hard during those 4 weeks, not to mention all the planning and testing he did before that.

It looks to me like you could probably save a few frames from having a peasent repair the last farm, but I could be wrong, chopping lumber does take a lot of time.

what's so great about being inside the hitbox of metal sonic? maybe I'm just jaded by knowing a lot about the game, but that doesn't really seem like that great of a screenshot to me.
