This sounds very interesting to me. I'd love to see someone take up the challenge.

Axe, I just wanted to give a personal thanks to you for the work you put into this game. It has always been a game near and dear to my heart and this run was amazing. Truly was one of the best things I've had the pleasure of watching in a long time.

Absolutely yes, and I'd love to see a version of the published movie that included the lua script, so that everyone can see the work that went into this, if it is technically possible.

100% for me is completing the tas.
^This Excellent answer, in this particular case. About the only thing I really want to see is a TAS that gets Exaclibur II while still watching the FMVs. That'd be a really awesome video to watch.

For Terraria, I think the goal would have to be to beat all 3 bosses, get all 8 people to move in, and to get a complete crafting station (that would require going down to the bottom area to retrieve a hellforge). The last one is pretty arbitrary, but it's the only way to ensure that the run goes to the bottom. Even then, you wouldn't be exploring the dungeon.

The Crystalis run, especially the newest version that Axe is working on, are very impressive in how they deal with grinding. That said, the grinding is still the most boring part. I don't think anyone enjoys watching excessive grinding. If Crystalis could be beaten at level 1, I doubt we'd see the grinding we do. Only enough to speed the game up.

The amount saved is truly impressive. Every time I think that you've found every possible way to save time you come up with another interesting trick. I can't wait to see the finished product.

If anyone wants to test if the edge glitch still exists, go for it. If not, I'll test it at some point when I get around to playing the new version. It is useful only in one or two spots, but in a TAS it wouldn't be the nearly as hard as it is in real time (normally takes me 200-300 tries to pull it off 3 straight times to obtain the edge games trinket, for instance). To do it, you have to weave back and forth on the edge of the screen on the screens which edge wrap. By doing it at the right time, you can pass right through an enemy as it wraps as well. This can also be used on the gravitron/super gravitron to dodge getting hit, but this probably will not be helpful in a TAS.

Count me in for wanting to see this. I love this game and I think there could be some very interesting strategies. One glitch I do know of is that you can use the wrapping on the edges of the screen to dodge objects that would otherwise kill you. I know this because it's the way I first figured out how to get the trinket in Edge Games. Far more difficult than the real solution, but I do believe it to be slightly faster. EDIT: That said, the game was totally reprogrammed from scratch in C++ for the humble bundle, so some things might have changed.

I know the monsters can be manipulated to never hit you, but for some attacks it might be faster to let them attack, as opposed to run all over the map. Just depends on the length of the attack animation and the length of their movement animation. Some monsters move really fast, others not so much.

I don't have the most updated version of the TAS PS1 emulator, but on the older version I was using about 6 months ago I had no issues at all running Lunar 1 and was able to 100% the game without issue. Lunar 2, on the other hand, had severe issues with game audio and animation not syncing properly if you ever took focus off the emulator or changed the speed from 100% to anything else during cutscenes. Also, the emu would crash on disc swap on Lunar 2, but not on any other games. The game was therefore unbeatable.

True. I more mean that once someone starts TASing this, they're probably going to find glitches and exploits that will screw up the current routes and present new, faster routes.

For a TAS, I think 100% would be the most interesting in this game, simply for Hell Temple alone. That said, the route planning would be a nightmare. Whoever has the guts to do it, my hat's off to you.

I'm really impressed with your WIP. I've played this game many times and it seems like a good game for TASing. There are probably a few interesting skips you can do with proper enemy boosting.

Well, I was actually extremely amused for this. Not sure I could take more than 4 or 5 minutes of it, but at 2 minutes, it feels great. This gets a yes vote from me.

Please, use the original music as well
I second this, but would also say that I would love to see a minimalist run that finishes the entire game on 3 HP, polar star only. It would be very impressive, especially Sacred Grounds.

Though I have refrained from posting anything thus far on the WIPs, I've been watching this run progress the entire time and I'm thoroughly impressed with the quality of the run. Easy yes vote for me.

they changed it so you can't abuse pausing anymore :) abusing quick-pausing to have perfect reflexes is terribly gay and I hate everyone who does it
Yeah, I agree. Abusing glitches in games and essentially slowing the game down in order to have perfect reflexes is terrible. No one should ever, under any circumstances, do such a thing. It's a good thing you brought that point up in this community, where you will find a mass of support for your views. On a more serious note, I really am impressed with what I've seen thus far on this run and can't wait to see a the full run.

Okay. Those were all absolutely great to watch. I knew there were some speedy ways to get through some of the rooms, but several times my jaw was just on the floor. Can't wait to see your actual run if your tests are that good.

tmont and axe both have my great respect for the love they've given to Crystalis. This thread, more than any other, is what keeps me coming back to the site.

Very impressive. I always wondered why those enemies seemed far more random than others. I never thought that they, unlike most enemies, are not programmed based on the player's location. Good luck keeping the lag in check.

I'd think that a run of the game, 100% on the hardest difficulty, would provide the most impressive and entertaining movie. I also agree that running some of the password accessed things, like PETUNIAX, would be very interesting.

Yeah, saw your FF run. That was impressive too. I know that it can be helpful to take breaks from things to get a better perspective on them when you return.

I think with enough practice a skilled player could do it, but the problem is how rapidly he can attack at times. Moving in front of him can be extremely difficult to do and I think that, more than anything, is what could ruin it. That is really interesting to see the hitboxes though. I bet that is extremely helpful when planning things out.

That's looking great Axe. I haven't seen a single thing where I thought "he could save more time by doing this instead". Can't wait for more.
