Thanks for asking. You'll see my next TAS in about three months, hopefully. I've been working very hard on that project and I hope things continue to go as planned. :)

Yes, at least twice. It syncs for the first time I played the movie, and for my last attempt to dump the AVI. I didn't start playing from a savestate. I'm encoding and uploading to YouTube right now. I hope more people can play it without any desyncs, so zk547 wouldn't need to bother remaking the last part.

Awesome! Got to be the first to reply and to congratulate on such an amazing run! It's hard enough to make a decent TAS using FBA-rr, which crashes and desyncs heavily, not to mention a well planned and optimized TAS with 2 players. So many years of persistence and hard work deserve deep respect. (BTW, someone please replace or update FBA-rr?) Edit: Making a comparison video right now. It's probably going to take a day or two. Edit 2: Still facing a problem that I can't always keep the dumped AVI A/V in sync. I have the same problem getting a desync audio during fast-forward, and if I don't use fast-forward, the A/V desyncs gradually. A comparison video requires tight A/V sync for both runs, and I can't do it unless I solve this problem. Edit 3: I've thought of a way that may work. Dumping it mission by mission... Edit 4: I've been dumping AVI files for hours. The second boss of Final Mission desyncs almost half of the times, and Root Mars 2 desyncs almost 100% of the times (probably during shooting G). The first time I play the movie, it syncs for Root Mars 2, but not when I'm dumping AVI... Why must it be so hard... Edit 5: Finally, synced at the end. Encoding... YouTube: Link to video 2x HQ encode (downloadable, MKV, 205 MB) Here comes the comparison video. Sorry for taking so long, but it isn't easy to make a perfectly accurate comparison video, especially when dealing with FBA-rr. Link to video Download HQ comparison encode (MKV, 337 MB) The only place zk547's new TAS loses time is the final boss of Mission 2. 77 frames are lost due to unknown reasons, probably lag.

Very impressive run, even better than I expected, and great improvements to the existing TAS. Yes vote. :D

Have you tried changing the time using bombs? I think that would help for luck manipulation, for there are lots of combinations with different ways to attack. I don't think stopping attacking for too long is a good idea.

This is fanTAStic! Thank you for bringing SMB elements here. I'm also amused by the song and the SpongeBob scene. I will remember this when voting Game Boy TAS of 2017. :D

It's just a demonstration. You can't see how the RNG manipulation is done since it starts from a save state. I have no better way than to try different combinations of killing during running, and maybe slow down a little bit before the last Cheep-cheep jumps.

Link to video Spring Festival Suite (春节序曲) is a well-known Chinese orchestral work composed by Li Huanzhi (李焕之). In this video, I perform parts of the music with bare hands - a unique musical instrument which I call "Hand-Accordion". What you hear is the real sound as recorded. No audio dubbing or processing except denoising. The notes are extremely hard to control, so please be easy on my mistakes. Thank you.

Koh1fds's patch didn't work for me, either. I've tried loading the patched ROM with FCEU, FCEUX, and BizHawk, and nothing changes from the title screen. Am I doing things wrong... :|

Thanks for telling me that. I didn't know that. The IPS patch doesn't work for me. Nothing from the title screen changes after patching. Is it working for anyone else? Thanks.

The responsible RAM address is $D29F. Changing it from 0 to 8 before the title screen gives you 8 stars. I don't know how to make it an IPS patch, though.

I meant the cannon smoke, sorry for my bad spelling. Then I'll help to make a comparison encode. How do you deal with the gradual desync of the dumped AVI? I used AssumeFPS(59.12) for my old encode. Is there any smarter way? Thanks.

Great WIP and great finding! It does complicate the final boss fight quite a bit, but I'm sure whatever you do, this will turn out to be a fantastic run. Wish you luck. :) Edit: The Cammon's damage to the brain is greater than a knife, and it only costs 2 frames before jumping out of the tank. Is it useful? I wonder why it hasn't been used before.

some interesting routes (going through upside-down pipes).
On which levels, if I may ask (for RTA)? I thought it's only faster on 8-1 and C-1, but maybe I missed some.
I haven't tried every pipes systematically, so now I only know 8-1, C-1 and 5-2 (probably not for RTA). I believe there might be more (for TAS only), but it takes time to find a hidden route. Edit: OK, after looking through the map and some tests, I might be wrong. There could be nothing more that can be used in an FDS warpless run to save time.

Yeah the safe place on the left stitch takes a bit walking distance. It might be good enough for the player with F, but not enough for the player with G. Firing G downwards while jumping is indeed slightly slower (about 6 frames per shot) than turn-around canceled G, but I managed to fire 5 G shots in one jump (maybe 6 is possible?), so it's fast enough. Here's what I think the player with G should do: jump and shoot G 5 times downwards -> land on the left side of the brain -> turn-around canceled G (but save some for the next jump) -> walk a few steps to the brain -> fast knives -> jump and repeat. This should also help manipulate luck a lot, because you can alter the time and the movement of the jump freely to get the red ball in place, unlike the player with F's movement, which is pretty much restrained.

Sorry to bring this up after 2 years, but Mister's TSRP2 WIP happens to be one of the greatest SMW TAS I've ever seen, so I made an encode for people watching it online: Link to video Mister, please don't let your wonderful work rest in peace. Only you in the world can bring it back to life. You've put so much effort in it and it's almost finished. You can do this!

I know a safe place, too, but is there one near the nose that won't cost much time walking? If not, the player holding G is going to jump anyway, so it might be faster for that player to jump on the brain so he can shoot probably also 1 shot every 4 frames during jumping (and fire the rest of G using turn-around cancel by the side of the brain)? In this way, the jumping or walking time could be saved by shooting G, and the player holding G can have a greater knife speed on the brain.

Well, I watched Mars608's TAS of it and he is getting the flower in 1-3, but like in the way you get the mushroom in SMB1 warpless, which is faster in this case because you don't have to jump over the only with walking speed.
No, it's slower if I remember correctly. Please don't care for that walking speed over the gap too much. If you get damaged on some frames, try to duck on those frames, and to run on frames where you won't get damaged.

But isn't there still the air time (only with walking speed) when you jump over the gap after getting the flower in 1-3?
You're right, but it's still shorter than waiting for the mushroom. As for getting the flower in 1-3, you won't be able to get running speed when jumping over the gap.

TAS strat looks faster because it reduces the waiting time, and getting the mushroom in 1-1 is faster than 1-3.

I know this must be a silly question, but I couldn't find the answer elsewhere: Why do TASes all begin at Elecman instead of Cutman like Coolkid (biggyboy)'s RTA runs? I looked up the current TAS and no special weapon is used in Cutman stage except for the boss fight, and I find beating Cutman with regular shots much faster than Elecman. Edit: Thanks, AngerFist. How stupid of me. I thought Mega Man was born with the blue tape thing (Magnet Beam).

I have an idea. Is there a save state, SRAM or simple cheat code that could be used to see all 13 worlds contiguously in one FDS warpless TAS? It would be an arbitrary category, but it would be entertaining enough for Moons. There's basis for such TASes being acceptable, see [2744] Genesis Sonic 3 & Knuckles "newgame+" by marzojr & Aglar in 27:31.29.
I had the same idea, and I've already found the responsable SRAM address to enter World A, but it's still too arbitrary goal for a warpless run. An FDS warpless run till World D is probably not a good idea because Mario has to game over at 9-1, return to the title screen, and use 8 stars from a save state or whatever to enter A-1. I have an idea and I'm working on it, but I'm leave you in suspense till I'm done. :)

Those are decent TASes but won't be approved because people perfer the SNES version that shows World A-D. In my opinion, an FDS warpless run (till 9-4) can show several special endings (skipping castles) and some interesting routes (going through upside-down pipes).
