No I didn't! I pressed it several frames before to match up the sound with the upcoming beat. This is possible with frame advance and sound enabled. I think the reason you think it's not perfect is because the swimming sound starts with a deep tone and if you watch the video with low volume it sounds not right.
I think the swimming sound can be separated into two parts: the first part is a deep tone with low volume and the second one is just the opposite. Actually the first one is easier to be neglected, so after hearing the music parts several times, I still feel it strange and need to be improved somehow. Have you tried putting the second one, which is the sound with higher tone and high volume on the note you're playing? I wonder if it would sound better... Anyway, no question about your great work of course. PS: I enjoyed every block duplication action a lot! Can't stop loving it!

The only criticism I can give is whenever Mario tries to sync actions with the music, as the timing seemed to be just the slightest bit off... but that's barely much of a matter, if even at all!
And I can say without a doubt that if you watch the movie on the emulator, the music timing is frame perfect! (I have to know this since I did both water levels with music syncing)
With all respect, the music timing is really not perfect, mostly because you ignored the large delay when performing the "swiming" sound. So "frame perfect" isn't about just press the right button at the right frame, if taking the difference of sound delay in to account.

I also wonder why they failed to get 99 lives, since it's not that hard, especially in auto-scroll stages. Does it has something to do with the score plan?

It shocked me greatly because I never thought it would be finished so quickly! I enjoyed the WIPs so much and will watch the final movie in no time. I also think we should give ISM a big hand for his awesome WIP. Edit: FanTAStic run indeed! Definitely YES vote!

An IPS-patched ROM with Worlds A-D enabled was one of the approved hacks before that rule was changed.
Or to start with a savestate that used a cheat code which unlocked worlds A-D? I wonder if that's approvable. If it is, I would prefer a warpless run of FDS version using a cheat code rather than SNES version, due to more glitches (I bet there are will be lots of improvements coming on).

Please excuse me for nominating my own run: [1962] NES Super Mario Bros. "warpless" by HappyLee in 18:38.23 It's made with 2 full years' hard work. Every single detail is highly optimized, along with heavy glitch abuse of course. It may not have impressed you that much at this time, since it's published in early February, but it's still the highest rating NES run of last year. I'm absolutely sure that I'm not going to make a movie greater than this, because this might be the highest that I can achieve, but I'll keep on TASing and try my best to impress you with my future runs. :)

I would say Bernka for his terrific Mega Man runs. He's a very talented Chinese TASer.

I've teamed up with ISM to work on the projects, and we're now at the fourth level. We're using snes9x 1.43 to make this run, but since our first purpose is to provide our work to nico community, there would be no problem perhaps.
Very well, I'm looking forward to seeing that. But pleeeeease do not quit TSRP2 any% TAS, since you've already worked that hard, and I'd really like to see that first.

Can any of these improvements be added to Mario's run if they haven't already and/or the first Super Mario Bros.?
No. All my runs here (except Extra Mario Bros TAS and SMB warped walkathon) are perfect enough that can't be beaten by current-known technologies. The trick in 5-2 used in this movie can improve the SMB2J Mario run for about 10 frames, but can't save any time.

Thank you. The answer is no, the fastest solution is to land as soon as possible, and doing a "wall kick" would simply slow down the landing, so Luigi couldn't speed up well.

I wish my idea to avoid getting any mushrooms could work by making bowser disappear instead of killing him (too many sprites). I think potentially the mario run could be improved this way... but probably not.
Nice idea, it comes to me too all the time, so I've just had a test. It would take at least 5 sprites to make Bowser disappear, so I need 1 shell rolling down the floor at least with 2 Bowser fire (I've proved possible) at the same time. With small Mario, you need to turn twice to adjust and kick the shell, and the best time I can do with small Mario without manipulating 2 Bowser fire is reaching the axe on frame 13244 (2 frames earlier than current Mario run). But with big Mario, it saves one turning movement, but costs time to get a mushroom, and I'll test that out later. Although manipulating 2 Bowser fire at the right time is possible in theory, it's extremely hard. And thank you Sir VG for reporting the link problem. I'll fix it as soon as I can log in Mediafire (unfortunately it's blocked maybe temporarily). Edit: OK, after further testing, I can make it 13230 with big Mario, but even so doesn't mean it can save time, if counting the time cost in 8-4.

Looks like nearly all SMB TASes are fully optimized now. Since I've finished this, I may try to TAS other games while making TASes of some SMB hacks.

HappyLee: with the new tiers, the site admins removed the rules on tier limits; you can have as many goals for one game as you like as long as they're all fun to watch.
OK, thank you for telling me that. This is probably not a good place to talk about the new tier system, but does it supports more interesting hacks as their TASes are fun to watch? And what about former ideas like "minimum score 500" and "minimum press"? There must be some limits stronger than pure "fun", for some movies might interest some while bore the others.

A new section for arbitrary goal movies? Well I'm a little confused. But if you need me then I'll submit the improved warped walkathon after submitting the SMB2J Luigi run. Thanks for your advice. :)

Thanks for noticing me that. Do you mean The Vault? Isn't that for pure speedruns with "a minimum set of goals" only? Besides, it's only an 1 frame improvement, although entertainment would be improved as well a little bit.

Not true. Would you believe it if I tell you that this run simply skips world 5? It's one of the incredible ideas of this run (which I put forward). Explaining it too early would probably ruin the fun, so I'll leave you surprised after his WIP's finished.

There's a Maximum Coins (without death of course) project going on, with GREAT entertainment and lots of extraordinary ideas. The author TEHH_083 is working on 4-1, and I'll post a WIP here till 4-2's finished.

I haven't watch your movie but getting mushroom add extra score but lowest score is . . . . .
I got an 1-up mushroom using that way in 8-2, which is basically the same as the regular mushroom.
