Thank you both very much! My problem was pressing diagonally on the controller. (My avatar isn't someone running.)

I would guess that Final Fight has an apple pie or variant inside one of its beat-up dirty oil drums.

I have gotten the whip launch to work in both directions from either corner of a skeleton enemy just outside the save room I'm currently at. Unfortunately I can't get it to work in the candle in the above room, where I think it actually may save time, jumping over the two twirly-thing-purple enemies. (As you can tell, I know so much about the names of enemies, weapons, and techniques in this game!) Also, looking for anything useful in this game's memory is about as good a use of your time as searching for errors in a normal distribution chart from a statistics book. (I actually found an error once) ARGH

I've done the dash launch, but that same technique isn't working off of candles or enemies. I have quite a few demos of the trick, but I can't replicate them yet. Run Under Construction Not canceling my dash around frame 16600 was an oversight, but it surprisingly ended up being the same speed. Edit: Maxim's laugh is one of the best pieces of recorded material I've ever heard.

I've just finished Skull Knight. Yay! Now I have the double jump, and need to relearn optimal movement before I progress further. I'm trying to whip launch off of candles and/or enemies and having no success. If anyone has any pointers I should be aware of, that would be cool. Thanks!

Does anyone else think this article incorrectly portrays the way these runs are made? We start with a picture of Bisqbot, a "robot designed to aid the creation of tool-assisted speedruns". If anything I think this should be toward the end of the article, following chronological history of the various tools that are used. Bisqbot has been used in three runs, and a handful of other TAS's here have used bots. A better introductory picture would be from Morimoto's SMB3 run, like a normal screenshot. One who reads this article could easily fall down the slippery slope and think we use robots to do most or all of our optimizing.

DeHackEd's got something in his script that will block IP addresses if you do something weird with it. You'll have to either PM him your IP, or get on IRC to tell him so he can unblock you.

Hey Gocha, that memory watching tool of yours is really handy! Now I don't have to re-input the values I want to watch each time I open SNES9x! Yahoo!! Is the color scheme or font size changeable? My eyes are bad... o_o

I sure hope the hex-editing works. If not, I hope you can put together a full run anyway!

Well you announce on the forums that this run or that run is improvable, so I thought it would be appropriate to bring up that trend on the forums as well.

I don't really understand this run. It's a neat glitch that you can cause the computer to die, but personally I don't think it's worth making a full run out of. I was impressed and surprised by how many of the warp "pills" you manipulated :) Edit: And I am extremely looking forward to the full run as well. / Biker Mice From Mars holleratyourboy!!!!!!!!

AKA, I've noticed you claim many runs have improvements, but never elaborate on them.

Not the best way to implement reset recording (in fact I hate it), but I applied The Patch manually and it ran correctly. I'll probably encode it sometime in the immediate future.
Does it use one of the four free 2-byte combinations as an extra "button"? 0100 0200 0400 0800 I ask because I throw these extra presses in some runs for extra button presses as an easter egg, and I wonder if it will cause resets.

I think that Phil's improvement is 1 frame, but I'm not sure.

Yes but if you finish the second level any earlier, the hammer brother moves more. Edit: which is slower.

I figured it was obvious enough that it needn't be mentioned. (also LOL) (Yes I've started, but I've no real progress to speak of yet)

Please. Juste is the manliest man of man since man came to mantown. You all wish you had his brightly colored room and ridiculous, overbearing, soon-to-be-destroyed decorations in said room in the basement of an extremely color-mismatched gigantic castle that has a counterpart in an alternate dimension. Don't hate.

I have a question about the route. After fighting the shadow, is there no faster way to get to Maxim in the other castle? It seems like a long trek.

I thought it was sexy because Samus jumps and everyone expects her momentum to come to a crashing halt when she lands, except you totally juke that into even faster, smoother, quieter movement. And you can do some cool stuff with the blue mock ball, and speedmockspringball as well.

Hmm, well Fabian and I have decided to do this run as well. Edit: Greginator/Skamasta, are you guys looking for something to do to alleviate the frustration of 6/5 and the SMW small run? :)
