I just wanted to point out that this write-up for the game is atrocious and misinformed. It's that bad.
The Lost Levels is the remake of the game released in Japan as Super Mario Bros 2; it is an exercise in Fake Difficulty, containing very difficult jumps, many enemies, problematic terrain, poisonous mushrooms, and, at worst, koopa jumps over walls or across pits. Most of it is senseless rehashing of elements in places where they don't belong (like amateur hacks). It's so difficult to beat that Nintendo of America released a wholly different game given a Mario theme as Super Mario Bros 2. Of all the games in Super Mario All-Stars, it's the only one in the set that saves your progress at individual levels rather than the start of worlds. It's that bad.

I really liked this run! I completely forgot about the score component for the challenge mode. I'm impressed that it's possible to get everything on the first try, without having to go back and re-do levels just for the score. Cheesing enemies for points wherever possible was a neat touch, and I especially liked 6-2. Has anybody ever hacked this mode into the NES version? This isn't the simplest thing to search for, as everybody likes to call their hacks "deluxe".

This is a divine method of flicker recognition worked out in this thread, though no one uses it but me. I use it for all 30 fps blinking/twitching. Even Alisia Dragoon looks awesome.
Wow, that all looks great. Keep up the good work! In my first reply, I meant no offense to anyone involved with creating TASblend. I definitely appreciate the goals you guys have in mind, but it's hard to watch when the resulting Youtube looks like someone recorded the movie to VHS by pointing a camcorder at a digital projection. Derail over. Good movie!

Very nice run. Did you do anything different than usual when you encoded the video for Youtube? I see sprite flicker, so I assume you must have used some method of TASblend. Yet it doesn't look like a blurry, smeary piece of crap like most other TASblend encodes. What's different about this one?

All our published encodes need that kind of introduction.

Hey Canar, thanks for the encode. In the future, could you make sure the video is cleared for mobile devices and TV? (Edit info > Settings on a video page) I watch many of these on a set-top box with a Youtube app, and this particular video is blocked. Unless you've got your reasons for it. Thanks in advance. And nice run, Rolanmen1. I've never bothered to play the game with fully-powered characters. It's a treat to see it.

I was highly entertained. All the fun of a glitched run without so much of the tedium of an in-bounds run. The planning and manipulation involved with zipping through the castle's negative space deserves a lot of credit, too. It's a good goal for this game. If we can have an Aria of Sorrow "all souls" run in the hacks/demos/other section, I don't see why we can't have a run like this published alongside it.

Luke got lost on the way to Dagobah and landed in Beyond the Forbidden Forest. Shooting down Slave I with an X-wing? Preposterous treatment of canon. And clearly this game sets precedence for Yoda's Dragon Ball fight in Episode II, what with all the Jedi hopping around. For this, the game must be condemned. Excellent run.

What the hell is this? Watch a 45-minute Megaman run? lol no. There's hardly any wall-zipping. Is this the big April Fool's entry? Obvious no vote. Really, good jorb. Nice run, nice description, nice planning, nice everything.

Also, this is making me wonder about the GB game of Donkey Kong... way back in the day, OmnipotentEntity was working on that, if I recall.
There's been a nice, very tight run on Youtube for quite a while. It's a favorite of mine, even if it's not perfect. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=58C01E8B8342E673

I have no idea how this happened, or how I managed to miss it, but the torrent file has just been replaced with a one track file. Please redownload it.
Okay, then. Thank you!

About the published MP4: It seems to have been encoded with two separate video tracks. Why? Also, VLC insists on playing both streams simultaneously, placing one on my desktop while running one in the normal window. Even without the VLC WTFery, why was this encoded so strangely?

Very nice run. Like I've said for X5 and X6, I think these games are terribly clunky and in real time, and it's a joy to see Zero move so fluidly in these TASes.

I had the same problem. It looks like any time there's a break in the action, VLC just stops rendering for awhile, and then takes a very long time to start up again. Unfortunately this makes the run rather unwatchable for me, so I look forward to seeing an alternate encode.
You lazy-ass pansies. Set a couple keys to three-second skip and you're done.

What have you kids got against VLC? It plays Aktan's files perfectly.

I'm watching the testrun vids on YouTube and I'm loving it so far, zvsp. If you get the SRAM issues taken care of, you'll have one of the best N64 runs on the site.

Pretty freaking wonderful. Terrible encode. "HQ" my ass, YouTube. Am I right that conversations can't be skipped unless you've completed the game once already?

There needs to be a poorly digitized speech sample of Mel Blanc saying "¡Arriba!" and "¡Ándale!" every time Speedy jumps. Also, it needs to cut out two of the three sound channels when it happens. These levels are surprisingly long, but thankfully they get more interesting after Stage 2. There's one part in Stage 6-2 (or 6-3?) around 86 on the timer before a passage full of bats that bothers me. You come to a complete stop and jump once or twice before moving on, and I can't see the need for a delay. Other than that it's a serviceable entry, so why not? Yes vote.

TAS precision seems to sap all the fun and entertainment out of this game, moreso than any other game on the site. Not that this isn't an obvious Yes vote or anything... Good job! EDIT: I can't think of a way to phrase that without sounding like a jerk. I appreciate the work put into it, enjoyed it, and think it should be published.

For the record, Hoshi no Kirby - Kagami no Daimeikyuu (Japan) (Rev A) also works. It runs a little long, but it was always entertaining. The planning, technique and execution are all star-worthy. Very nice job!
