My first association would be Greek mythology, probably due to how badly Hollywood mangled the classical material in Clash of the Titans. However, according to Wikipedia, Locke is right, Kraken is from Norse mythology. This is one reason why I love Final Fantasy so much, the wide range of source material for the monsters and mythology really makes things interesting.
Yeah, it's just sad how often Hollywood just pulls random guesses out of their asses when they don't know something and then show it to millions.

Kraken is also a large mythical sea monster. Norwegian I think.

I agree that more dynamic fights are great, but my complaint with Zangief is that he's slow-looking. I'd rather see a crazy run with a really quick character.

This thing refuses to work. Every player simply crashes. Some players will show a vertical gray rectangle before crashing. edit: ok, now the new mario speed run crashes too. It worked fine 20 minutes ago :(

Am I the only one who's tried to watch this?

Found it, but still the same desync in that one. I know the controller settings match, and I've tried all 3 sound sample rates. :(

This was great. I was thoroughly impressed. My only complaint was that the hurricane kick got a bit repetitive, but that probably couldn't be avoided, and still certainly didn't bring down the overall entertainment much, which was quite high.

I gotta say that fighting games should go for neat tricks/stunts and entertainment before speed. (Speed would still be an important secondary goal)

Famtasia? Just when I thought I could finally delete that thing.
Heh, if only. It's the only emulator that actually causes my mouse curser to constantly lag and sometimes freeze for a few seconds. Awful emulator :(

"Is it possible to juggle more than 2 blocks?", cause that would be friggin' sweet.
Yes, but in this case it uses a bug where you remain in flying state after throwing it which can only be done when you throw the block during the very beginning of the rise.
So juggling more than two blocks would mean you'd have to sacrifice the flying it sounds like. :( Does anyone know the max number of blocks that can be juggled then while standing/jumping?

I think the juggling of the blocks during the big boo fight did it for me. Voted "Yes."
Yeah, that was certainly a highlight as well. Though when I was watching it, I kinda wondered: "Is it possible to juggle more than 2 blocks?", cause that would be friggin' sweet.

I especially liked the beginning of the first level, (the turtles being stomped) and the use of a turtle shell as a fireball! Very very entertaining.

I have a question about the ice castle. In the avi, at 47:43 and 47:48, I can't figure out why those two bombs were dropped. What were those for?

I keep getting this from time to time when I'm playing games. Seems to only affect some games, but I can't seem to figure out the cause. I've tried switching video cards and memory, and my CPU runs at around 45º c. Any ideas?

Yes, that last fight is so much more entertaining without the murder beam.

But this site isn't about world records. True, getting rid of those slowdowns would be an unfair advantage, but so are savestates and slow-motion. I think it would be much more entertaining to see the end of the metroid 1-item run at faster than 5% speed. (exaggerated I know, but meh)
