My thoughts on episode 3 were basicly "oh nice, another thing that Hasbro told the show runners to do so they can sell their toy". The song was good, though. So far into this show, I'm not surprised by these things anymore. I just appreciate it for what it is.

The Beginning of the End - Part 1+2 part 1 link part 2 link !! SPOILERS AHEAD !! So the final season has started... I'm wondering what will happen throughout this season and in the end. But for now here are my thoughts on this two-parter: The plot was a bit forced. I know S8 left things pretty much as a setup for this to happen, but Celestia and Luna randomly retiring or Grogar not acting sooner was a bit out there... Nevertheless, I have kind of looked forward to this type of plot for a while now. All the villains working together is great. Sombra talking so much feels odd... I'm not sure I can take Grogar seriously. He is portrayed as extremely ancient and powerful. He will make a perfect "final villain", but Idk I just don't dig his personality nor his design... At the beginning of the 2nd part, I thought up a list of things the mane 6 could possibly do, and this is what I came up with: 1. Learn about a new artifact or power, obtain and use it (Might be plausible but it would be kind of an asspull and I guess it wouldn't be any different from their previous plan (using the elements), so it would have made for a bad story.) 2. Talk-No-Jutsu (Sombra giving in would have been out of character. It did work against Starlight though...) 3. Help from the human world and Sunset Shimmer (The human world IS canon, as far as I remember Twilight does mention something about it in a previous season. Just saying... But I guess Sunset wouldn't have helped much.) 4. Celestia and Luna intervene 5. Help from the pillars of Equestria 6. Discord intervenes 7. Traditional fighting and cleverness 8. "Friendship always wins" (And these are the things that happened. I even went and described 8. as an asspull and it would be lame. But I think it was well executed.) Twilight deflecting those hits from Sombra with her horn was epic, to be fair. Discord faking being hit was obvious. For all I know, he was faking against Tirek too. Guy is unbeatable. You would have to wonder why Grogar didn't summon him, too. It might be explained later on. Maybe Discord is something like a nemesis to Grogar, or he simply believes Discord is reformed to the point of no return. The series finale being the epic showdown, I predict Discord will probably play a role in defending and losing against Grogar. I expect the series finale to be more than just "Ponies vs. villains" and "friendship always wins" yada yada. I want something beautiful, something epic, something that I won't forget. Like a nice song. Something like a time skip or a (well executed) recap of the whole show might be a good way to end it. And something like a "now it is up to you, viewer" moment.

0"90 in Event 17 is possible on 20XX Melee and people are trying to find if the same score is possible in normal Melee. https://twitter.com/thevikingja/status/1115259927621246978

"Ghost Arrow" glitch https://twitter.com/Savestate/status/1094377733294092288 Causes Link's arrow to despawn with the possibility to load another object in its place. I haven't fully understood this bug yet. Works in NTSC 1.00 and 1.01 only. https://twitter.com/Savestate/status/1112682814779076608 Using Ghost Arrow glitch, you can decrease your opponents stock count one at a time.

That's where it stopped. It's from 2011 and the bug was found in 2017. The WIP was done in FCEUX. If you can make it work in Bizhawk NESHawk core, go for it. Otherwise it should be remade I guess.

If the bug is pulled off at the kraken boss, it's going to be as long as the WIP that I stopped, which means 8 minutes 15 sec or so.

I'm logging into speedrun.com for the first time in weeks, and I barely skimmed through new posts. Anyway, something was said about GBHawk running faster than it should, so I thought I should bring this to your attention.. Not that I'm involved or anything, just saying. https://www.speedrun.com/kdl/thread/8saqh

If anyone wants to help out... 1) Check if this file does the Ledge clip. (Bizhawk 1.12, Mario & Luigi US version, mgba core) 2) If yes, create a version of the movie file that starts from savestate from the point where Mario & Luigi first enter Hoohoo Village. 3) Check what versions of Bizhawk sync all the way until the end. 1.12 is supposed to sync. If a version of Bizhawk that implemented a newer mGBA core syncs, we should probably switch to it. Not that I'm "back" to working on it, but I think having these things out of the way would be a good help. Thanks in advance.

In the end it's a matter of opinion. I for one appreciated the school plot. But I think if I were to say anything now, it wouldn't do justice to whatever I said in my "first impressions" post. Besides the new characters, I appreciate that Twilight has basicly done a full circle:
  • Being a young student and seeking knowledge
  • Being ignorant to friendship
  • Being powerless
  • Has faced adversaries and hardships, has gained knowledge
This kind of reminds me of Erikson's stages of life.

Read Only and Read+Write mean?
Assuming you have a movie loaded: If the emu is in read-only mode, and you load a state, if that state is from the movie it will load it and start playing back the remaining input from the movie from there. If the state is not from the movie, the emu will decline it. If the emu is in read & write mode and you load a state from the movie, it will load it and record new input starting from there. If the state is not from the movie, the emu will decline it. (Notably, old VBA-rr had a bug which caused the movie to switch to recording anyway, causing the movie to break) Always make a backup of your TAS movie files. It is not nice to work on a movie for weeks and lose all your work by mistake. This happened to me like once or twice in my early days.

As far as I know, the show runners once said they are pretty much free to do whatever, but they have to abide by Hasbro's orders. Hasbro decides Twilight needs to grow new wings and the library has to go in favor of a new castle, so they can sell new toy products. I have seen the show runners get a lot of praise for how they deal with those decisions and implement those things in the show. I have just accepted it and appreciated it for the most part. Magical Mystery Cure, from what I remember, was intended to be the show's finale. The episode was written before it was decided that the show is renewed for more seasons. I'm just bringing these two aspects to your attention in case you didn't know or remember. As for me, I liked everything up until the end of season 4. I was mainly focused on the main story line (elements of harmony -> tree chest castle map). Season 5 started to lose me, although Starlight Glimmer's plot in the opening and closing two-parters was interesting. At this point I was wondering if the elements of harmony storyline was going to be developed any further, what the origin of the elements was or if there was a goal to reach for doing all those friendship missions. I barely remember anything after season 6 because it lost me. Something about Discord, Trixie and Glimmer teaming up and something about the pillars of Equestria being resurrected (which I found stupid). So you may be right with "it overstayed its welcome". I haven't watched MLP for quite some time and I'm not planning to. I'm keeping the good memories and move on. I heard that the next season was confirmed to be the last. And I heard they want to make sure to wrap things up. I wonder if it's going to be one final battle (Cozy Glow will do something and there is also Chrysalis(?)). I wonder if there will be some sort of time skip, like a glimpse 10 years into the future or something. There is also this trope that I've seen lots of other shows do: The gang splits up and goes their own ways. But I guess the world of Equestria is too small for that. It's not like the other side of the globe was ever explored. I guess they will not show Scootaloo's parents. Heck, I'm kind of wanting to rewatch some MrEnter review videos now...

@pirate_sephiroth, thanks. In Lua, is it possible to split a hexadecimal number in two? (without string conversion, preferably) 0x1234 -> 0x12 and 0x34 0x123456 -> 0x1234 and 0x56

@Warp I guess I shouldn't worry. Because the FPS in love2d for me is 450 FPS unrestricted. I'm using the "more sophisticated way to cap at 30 fps" shown on this page, only difference is that I cap at 60 fps. So my only concern actually is with what happens when it becomes lower than 60 fps consistently.

I think going for C/C++ was a bit overwhelming after all. I tried to find ways to make Lua work, and I found Love2d. It allows for lots of things that Bizhawk couldn't do (like image manipulation and sound) and allows to convert the program into an executable later. I'm in the process of porting my Bizhawk script to it. It has been difficult but I'm getting results: Unfortunately I had to throw some things out for now (fading, 3-sec countdown, input config). My code is a mess and I want to simplify it a lot before I add to it anything new. Love2d uses 3 functions love.load() which is called once at the start, used for declaring everything love.update(), called once per frame, used for logic etc. love.draw(), called once per frame, used for drawing stuff My script was structured in such a way that logic and drawing was mixed (this is an example):
Language: Lua

game = { -- game[mode] [0]= function() -- stuff end [1]= function() -- other stuff end [2]=function() -- the actual game playerMove() wallCollision() drawMap() drawPlayer() [3]=function() -- ...
So I had to split game into two: game and draw. I call game[mode]() in love.update() and draw[mode]() in love.draw() I'm not happy with this structure, but because of the complication of this 3 function system, it's the only way to make it work. Maybe I will find a better way soon. I'm also a bit worried about the thing I read in one tutorial, about delta times. Ideally the game runs at the same constant FPS for everyone and I can do logic based on frames. But in practice, it seems you need to account for FPS differences and include delta time in most calculations. Maybe I will not worry about it for now...

Still trying with C++, I've been trying to copy-paste various "simple game example codes" into CodeBlocks (the program I'm using), but it keeps showing various errors when compiling. Stuff is not declared or there is no reference etc. it says. I'd like to show a window and draw graphics in it.

I'm considering to get into C++ now. I followed this page and installed CodeBlocks with C++ compiler. I have some knowledge on Java, on Javascript/HTML5 and scripted in Lua a lot. Do you think it would be wise to get straight into trying to create a window and drawing stuff? Or should I learn some basics first? Am I being naive if I were to say I want to see some results fast?

Thanks Alyosha!
The screen doesn't update immediately because I didn't want to put the entire screen state in the savestate. If it's really preventing you from doing something I can add it in, but I'd prefer not to.
Well, I'm used to this behavior from pretty much any other emulator. For the sake of optimization, it is a good feature to have. Imagine you have jumped around a corner in two different ways, if you want to compare the two cases just by looking, you could load both savestates back and forth to compare. I'm working on Master Karateka 2 player and noticed: When I savestate 10 frames before the menu becomes visible and load that state, it will show the menu (or whatever the screen was before loading the state) and stay that way for those 10 frames. It does not update the screen in those 10 frames.

Thank you for your replies. I'm not sure you could say this is about depression, but it is about frustration and about fear and feeling treated unjustly. I think that I have become more resilient to bad influences and circumstances, but lately bad influences and factors have accumulated and become more serious. I need transparency and clarity, both of which my school lacks. I tried building clarity for myself by organising myself: I have an overview of what needs to be done to fulfill the school's requirements for this internship (the report is quite a big task and involves taking lots of notes). Now in this internship, there is no clarity. I'm not allowed to take notes. I cannot get hold of my supervisor/advisor to discuss what I should be doing or what they expect of me. I cannot even tell him that I need clear instructions. He indirectly insulted me (and the school, basicly saying "I'm an idiot and the school teaches nonsense"), he yelled at me and there is one other pretty serious thing (an accusation) that I will not further describe here. There is seemingly nothing I can do about it except ignore the problems and see it through, or stop. If this internship stops (or fails), there is no alternative: The education will most likely be halted (meaning I have to start the year over next September, and possibly run into the same or other problems again). It will come down to "sitting around" at home or visiting a clinic again, both of which I do not want. I will never go back to the clinic because I know how it was. It does not solve depression. I remember the long months of crying through the days in self pity. I'm hurt by this person and I'm scared of what will happen. I cannot even really report these problems back to my school, because it may lead to my tutor phone calling the facility and escalating everything into cancellation. That does not mean that I can't report these problems back at a later point though.

For my school education, I'm in a 6 week long internship which started 4 days ago. I'm trying to do a really good job, prepare for everything, take notes and write a good report for my school. But the way they treat me at work, I basicly feel like I'm on the receiving end of bullying by my own supervisor/advisor and it couldn't even be resolved during a thorough 4-person conversation we had today. It's shattering me. Grades are important to me and this person is threatening to give me the worst grade possible, for not "playing by their rules", for not being part of the team, and a whole lot other crap which is either incorrect or I do not understand it. It does not matter what I say or do, because I will be the loser. I'm basicly toilet paper to this supervisor person.
