Both movies use glitches, so I really don't like the idea of a "less glitchy" category.
If you ask me, I don't like the idea of putting the "glitched" tag on this run either. I mean, it still is over one hour long! I'd vote for obsoletion for the same reasons you listed as I see no real reason why the old run shouldn't be obsoleted.

Has anyone considered doing a no-damage run? It now seems possible to completely avoid the metroid and Mother Brain, and if you cause enough damage to Ridley at the beginning, you can leave without getting hurt.
That would mean yet another category which I do not support...

Haha, I actually recognized that room immediately (how you got the idea to make that picture is a little unclear to me). What does "Kuka tunnistaa paikan?" (the text under the picture in your IRC gallery) mean?

You'd still need to beat Forest Haven to have full access to the Great Sea. As for whether you can dredge up the pieces without the chart, I don't know. I'm thinking no, but I haven't really looked into WW that much. Also, first link is broken. Anyone got a video of the Moblin carry thing he's talking about?

If it has so much CPU usage, why do you leave the frontpage open? I'm always leaving the forumpage open when doing something else.

So I'm going for the 100% run once more. But I'm stuck... I can't get the "Fall Through Platform" glitch to work, and thus I'm asking for help here. Are there any strategies or hints on how to do it? Or is it a trick you can pull off by trial-and-error only? I don't know if the Japanese TASers look here, but hopefully gocha tells them. :) EDIT: What I found out so far / notes: - You need to press and hold 'down' at a certain time before reaching the platform you want to pass through. - I tested if pressing 'down' before a successfull platform skip influences it. It does! I pressed 'down' x frames before pressing down for the platform glitch and it didn't work as it should. - The glitch seems to work better on diagonal platforms... - There's a platform I haven't been able to go through ever. http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6954/hoshinokirbysuperdeluxe.png EDIT2: I've just gone through this platform. Yay! - I jumped and went through a platform. I tested if delaying the jump by a frame influences the outcome, and it does. So we can say that the platform skip is only possible at certain frames. --- I'm at Great Cave Offensive, and progress is looking good. This attempt, however, will be slightly suboptimal. I'm trying to find new strategies and optimize everything, but I'm not playing certain parts over and over to save 2 more frames. This way, when I finish the run, it won't be improvable by more than a few seconds and I can eventually finish the run.

@Synx: The run is on hold since they wait for Mupen-plus to be released which supports reset-recording. So how is Mupen-plus coming along?

I still don't get why the new move-while-talking trick is said to be slower than the regular forest escape. You'd only need to buy deku nuts and go to that tunnel, correct?

Hasn't SNES9x1.51 been improved recently? I don't know about ZSNES, but it isn't as stable and user-friendly as SNES9x as far as I can tell.

A great run. It's boring at times, but that's just me. 8/9. I vote for obsoletion of the old movie, because it still is available and it's not like this glitch run completes the game in 5 minutes. In case this turns out to be a seperate category, which it looks like it does, I'd vote for adding a "glitchless" tag to the old movie.

I used FCE Ultra 0.98.15 Basicly, if a player is just about to land from a diving header, and he gets hit by a powershot, he flies through the ground.

This is the predecessor slot of the gameboy remake of the same name - the first game I ever TASed. It uses the same graphics and some levels from the gameboy slot. I actually was close to completing the TAS and submitting it, but I had a misunderstanding with my father (he sent my PC away to formatting since it was full of viruses, without telling me. I'm not in the mood to write the whole story...). So I now only have a half-completed movie left. >_> http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/260570812/smurfs%20nes%20taS.fcm Rom name: Smurfs, The (E) (M4) [!] Comments etc. appreciated.

This is one of the games I attempted TASing but gave up on. Since it doesn't look like I'll ever complete a publishable movie, I'm posting all the tricks/glitches and info I remember. My first thought was "How many players / what mode?". I tried out the 4-players option, but was soon demotivated by how difficult it was to control 4 players simultaneously and how long a single game took (10 ingame minutes = ~14 minutes!). Imo, it would definitely be quite an accomplishment if someone actually made a 4-players movie! So I took a break from the game and started again a few months later. This is what was done back then. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/147003646/NWC%20demo.fcm I later regretted the own goal, I thought it was funny but I should have played with the goalie more and then should have used the own goal glitch or something (If you pass and the ball is inside your goal in the first frame of the shot, the game somehow thinks you have scored a goal.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRYMkTdfG54 Out of Bounds - Glitch http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/729093554/nwc2.fcm Basicly, if a player is just about to land from a diving header, and he gets hit by a powershot, he flies through the ground. I wanted to use that one and let the enemy shoot into my goal, and the ball should stop just when the game ends. Another glitch http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1986861508/nwc3.fcm If hit by a powershot after performing a bycicle kick and recovering from the lag frames of said bycicle kick, you fly as if you were hit, but your player still performs whatever move you wanted to do. This way, you can go up really high while performing another bycicle kick or a diving header. This does also work when the goalie shoots the ball or when walking across stones (only in multi-player mode). Funny use of the above glitch http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1407175864/nwc1.fcm I used the above glitch to perform a diving header while flying high through the air. The ball is stopped by the goalie and promptly shot away again. I hit the ball with the diving header which produced a powershot which is high above the ground. *You can score from corner balls. *Enemies can't hit you when you are in a proper location. *The goal actually has poles which can be hit with a diagonal shot. (The ball only has to fly slightly diagonally) This is all I can recall atm. If there are questions or someone is going to make a TAS using these tricks, don't be afraid to ask for help.

How does the low% route roughly look like?

I agree with Derakon. Collect everything that is permanent (no rupees, hearts, fairies, keys...) Nice work, nevertheless. My only gripe is the lack of damage boosting - you never got even close to 0.5 HP. And at 6:30, why did you enter the temple twice?

*Music: There's only the TV in the background and the game is not mute. No additional music. *Notes: I use a sheet of paper as a mouse pad, and I just use that when I need to write down frame numbers. *Savestates: I use all of them. #1, #2 being my back-up savestates. #7, #8 and #9 being my solutions I already found. I overwrite these when finding a faster solution. *Frequency: I used to TAS everyday, but nowadays... maybe 3 times per week. *time of day: Evening. I often end up having to end the TASing session because I need to go to bed. >_> *number of projects: I currently have 3 active projects (like Kirby Amazing Mirror), and about 5 low-priority projects I randomly started (like Yoshi's topsy turvy). But I never work on two games at once. *assigned keys: Frame advance: W A: A B: S L: E R: R Start: Num7 Select: Num9 *Somehow, after posting a WIP, I'm getting really demotivated and can't continue for a long time. So I'm trying not to post any WIPs anymore. (edit: this doesn't apply if I'm already demotivated.) *Since I'm so demotivated these days in general, I often end up just watching my WIPs but not continuing them.

Is there a (working) PSP emulator?
I heard only two people are working on a PSP emulator and development goes awfully slow or something... I don't know if any of that is true, though.

Btw, when shooting the aliens, the game seems to lag for a split second. If you don't want the alien part to be an entertainment/speed trade-off as in Mukki's run, you could try minimizing the number of aliens you really have to shoot.

Great discoveries MrGrunz. If we can skip all boss keys, does that warrant a new category? Because I fear we would skip a lot areas. Or maybe a "skips-all-boss-keys" run should be considered as an any% whilst a 100% run could get all the boss keys.
I think that's what the low% category is for. The only boss key skip which seems useful in a any% run is the one in Great Bay.
