'GB The Smurfs' took me 5 hours, 'GBA Kirby & the Amazing Mirror' about 80 hours, 'GB Master Karateka' 3 hours, 'GBA Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland' (Testrun) 30 hours, 'GB Kid Niki' 5 hours. I don't spend as much time on my runs as others do, because I don't care about every single frame that could be saved. I ensure that every run I make is not too sloppy though. Also, sometimes I playback and watch my movies more than I TAS them ^^

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1636203543/kss-jap-mugg-tas.smv This WIP includes Spring Breeze, Gourmet Race and DynaBlade. Some notes: - The record for Race #1 is 19.77, however, I only achieved 19.94. This is because of the fruit in the block walls that block my air puffes to destroy the blocks. - It is possible to fly straight through platforms like the ones in the beginning of DynaBlade. However, I found it out by accident and don't know how it works but it involves holding down. - I used Jet to glitch through the ceilings (thanks gocha), this resulted in being 1000 (!) frames faster than using the fire ability. I used Jet later, too... gocha, I like how you post various videos of Japanese TASers. keep them coming! :)

(modded screenshots by Yu-ki(Hs), thanks)
I need more help with the Jet up/down glitch. I noticed it mostly gets used in corners of ceilings, just as shown above. Doesn't it work with ceilings in general? Current Progress: DynaBlade, at the first switch. Pic It would be a huge timesaver if you could just go through ceilings. If it isn't possible, I'll use the fire ability (if there's no other suggestion). Note: I can mix any ability in the room before the one in the pic.

Just play from the beginning and do something else. Use the "stop at frame x" function for that purpose.

That's a nice glitch, and I was amazed by the posts which gave me thoughts like "Pokemon in 20 minutes without warping WTF!" as the posts were written here. I'll follow future progresses. One question, why can't you "chain" trainer/fly glitches? What does this mean at all (chaining trainer/fly glitches)?
could you please explain how to navigate the menu.
If you can't continue to navigate through the menu, press B ~ 4 times and try again.

GBx. Never owned the real retro consoles. If GameCube and NDS emulators come out, I might use them, too.

Glitches got removed with each new version. So I doubt such a glitch is possible on GBA or VC.

a ha ha. That's where you are very wrong. The NES version is way better if you've played both of them. Remakes are always worse than the original. Sure, the graphic may be better, but that's hardly any reason for it to be better. Egg catcher and crane game were way better than the new mini games, Ball ability lost all of it's original good use due to the new mechanics, the attacks are way weaker, the music doesn't have the same charm that the new version has, Dedede is super ugly in this version, Backdrop's new mechanics suck compared to the old ones, stone and needle have become easier to use which makes the game easier, (which sucks) Fire and ice take extra long to shoot, in butter buildings the got rid of the spinny castle for the parts where you just stand around and wait for the clouds to leave. (also left out of the FAQ in the first post) All bosses and mini bosses move slower, Phan Phan is way easier than Rolling Turtle. The list goes on and on.
Some of your points can be seen from a positive site. I never played any of the retro consoles, so I'm not experienced at how much better the NES version is.
It's unfortunate that they are porting Kirby Super Star to the DS, since it's also gonna be ruined in remaking. God only knows how dumbed down the Great Cave offensive and Gourmet Race will be.
-___- Am I the only one who likes remakes? I see, the movie times aren't as comparable as I thought because of lag, missing rooms, timing differences and so on... By looking at the TAS of the NES version, it looks pretty clean and fast though (for example the boss tower was very fast, like 10 sec). Floogal, thanks for the guide. So it should be possible to kill Mr Bright/Mr Shine in 3 Hi-jump kills already... Which version is your guide based on? (USA, JPN, EUR?)

My biggest reason was that for most of the movie I was thinking, "that could have been faster" or "wouldn't it have made more sense to..." or "is that really faster?" so that's one reason I vote no. Too much that looked questionable that made me enjoy it less.
Maybe you could be a little bit more specific?
Though there were certain points in the movie where he could have gotten High Jump, that I think would have been more strategic to get, and I think that the way he was using wheel sometimes may have actually been slower.
At which points do you think Hi-Jump would have been faster? The only point, I think could have been solved more strategic was that deep pit at which stone ability could have helped out. (But there were no good conditions, i.e. there wasn't a good possibility to get stone, nor a good possibility to get wheel afterwards.
So even though this run through the game wasn't really great, I think it could be a great run with some (several) improvements. I might even take the time to test some theories of mine.
Feel free to share your theories.^^
In the NES version, tornado was faster than wheel in many places due to better vertical control. Did you test this for the GBA version?
Tornado IS better than wheel, but it lacks the ability to break blocks. Or the period of time in which you use it is too long and you may have to wait in front of a door before you get normal again. It does have its advantages but also its disadvantages, so further testings are required.
I think this game would make a good non-speed-based run, since it could show off many different powers, and perhaps some oddities, though I don't know of any in this game. The game is quite odd as it is :)
Ok, I'm going to get the sleep ability next time ;)
If we can make an exception to start with SRAM for this game, you should do a Meta-Knight run. That would be very fun to watch.
I once made a testrun of the first level, and personally, I disliked it! It's nothing more than running on the floor, jumping, avoiding all the enemies (Imagine Metaknight doing this for 40 minutes....). Trust me, watching Kirby is more fun in this case!

I must say, this is some pretty cool stuff. Frog Mario made me laugh my ass off! (As well as other parts) One thing I didn't like, was that you stood around loosely on some ships sometimes. For me, this movie, while being pretty long, has a great rewatch value. Thank you! Also, I agree that there should be special symbols for entertainment-only TAS's.

I think I would only watch it if it was 100% I've seemed to notice that whenever someone suggests you do a 100%, you turn it down. I fail to see how 100% would not be good.
I'm just afraid that it maybe won't be accepted in the end, and 100% always means more planning etc. Originally, since the movie time is now something like 34min, I thought it would surprise people, because the NES glitched version is 36min long.
And keeping Fire Ball the whole time in a any% run would be super boring. (I always call it the original name of Fire Ball since it makes more sense than burning)
The run doesn't use burning all the time ;) To be honest, it uses it only two levels (or something).
One thing I noticed that is missing in the faq in the first post is that attacks are a lot weaker than in Kirby's Adventure. So for example, Throw isn't anywhere near as effective as in Kirby's Adventure. This is just one example.
Another fact that should impress people if you look at the movie times.

Sorry, but none of your suggestions didn't help me much. FractalFusion, I did what you listed, but there was no GBAren folder in the end. Maybe because I used Wordpad instead of Notepad (simply because there is no Notepad available on my PC). Boco, I wasn't able to follow your instructions. To be honest, I'm a newb at PC techniques and can only make guesses. Nevertheless, thank you for your help so far. I appreciate it!

Run complete! The Rom used, seems to be hacked. I'll redo it with the (E) ROM in the next weeks ;( It seems there is a problem with GoodGBA as it names the KNID ROM I use [hI], although there is no hacked intro. The TAS I made works with another ROM I found as well. Any% Completion time: 34:24 I'll probably submit it later. It's rather testrun quality though because the optimization level is pretty low. I tried to make it look clean, but didn't optimize things, so I may lose frames here and there. I didn't want to work half a year on this run if it might get rejected afterwards. I may consider working on a more optimized version later.

On the frontpage, if I select one of the recently published movies (or other movies) at first the page won't be loaded. When I tried it another time it worked, but there is no menu on the left side, no screenshots for the games...

-In the end of 1-2, couldn't the player use the jump-into-corners trick? -And in 4-2 isn't it faster to go the upper path instead of going through walls? -Why does the jump-into-corners trick not work in 4-2 at the stairs?

Yes, though I found the previous run more entertaining, because Pom kept an eye on the frame rules (didn't he?). The movie seems to be able to be ended earlier which would shorten the movie length.
