Mario sunshine is known to have desync issues so anything RNG-driven will likely desync. I still don't know how Rene doesn't have desync problems. I think it's because of his computer/graphics card or something

Maybe you could reconfigure...
No, two different games Also, I haven't looked into editing my movie file yet, maybe I never will. I'm not interested in TASing this game anymore, the emulator gets outdated more and more as newer versions come out, the hard-resets make it an illegitimate TAS and I have doubts I can make it sync with soft resets (I or someone else* should try it sometime though). ___ *PM me if you want to try

Where does this happen? I don't remember a place where you can enter a wall.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - Hitting an info block twice at the same time
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/755804910/yi%20crash2.smv I don't know how to TAS this game so no speed tricks. I used the glitched TAS smv so author info or rerec count are wrong

Go to the beach stage with the wiggler boss. Get yoshi and spray at the orange thing that desolves in juice. Spray the plant until it turns red, then ground pound. Once you've reached incredible heights, jump off yoshi and ground pound again. [Softlock]
If it is what I think it is, don't you reach the ground in about 50 minutes?

"Fastest crash" speedruns have seen some popularity on nicovideo lately, so I wanted to make a post here now. Although I'm kind of late... What constitutes a "crash" or a "freeze"? The freezes in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror and Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland can also be counted as "soft locks" (which would be the mildest kind of game crash). Are Unwinnable situations softlocks as well? That aside, I wanna put some notes here.. If you wanna know details about something, PM me here or on youtube. Maybe someone knows better (or more) about a game than me, which would be interesting. Super Mario Land 2 -Can be crashed within a few seconds, with the pause glitch. -Can otherwise be crashed if you go out of bounds and crush stuff in the ROM area or something. Kirby's Dream Land -I don't know how to freeze this game. But you can probably make it unwinnable with a glitch. The Smurfs (GB) -I don't know how to freeze this one. One glitch at the dragon boss would almost make it unwinnable but you can just kill yourself and re-try. Kirby & The Amazing Mirror -Can be softlocked with the glitch shown in the video linked above in this post. I haven't been able to do it in an earlier room, can't clip into walls. -Can be frozen with a recent glitch I found, in the first Dark Kirby battle. -Can be softlocked with a glitch that happened to SirVG in the Dark Mind 5 battle. -Can be frozen/crashed with a glitch in the Dark Mind 6 battle. -It may be possible to softlock with the Cook glitch. Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland -Can be softlocked when Kirby uses Crash a few frames after jumping out of water. -Can be crashed and frozen if you press up+down on the battle against Nightmare's orb. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga (Mario & Luigi RPG) -Can be made unwinnable in many ways, using glitches that involve wall clipping. -Can be softlocked in the Hoohooros battle when one of the brothers learns his advanced move while Hoohooros is also attacking. (I guess that would be the earliest point where you can screw the game) -Can be frozen/crashed with the Mini Mario glitch. -Maybe many more possibilities to freeze the game, idk Kirby Super Star Ultra - You can freeze(?) the game early in Dynablade when you enter a miniboss while using Suplex(?) on an enemy. It never worked for me on every version of the game (JP, EU, US, Desmume and DS Lite). Kirby Squeak Squad -The only way I know to screw this game is to clip out of bounds with Ghost kirby in a certain level and then switch to Sword and use final cutter(I believe?). You will be stuck at the bottom of the screen forever. (But because it requires Ghost Kirby it means you have already beaten that level so you can exit) -One glitch involving also Ghost Kirby is supposed to freeze the game when you possess Uja (the enemey that resembles Masterhand). But it doesn't work for me and I haven't seen footage of it so I believe it is false information. -Maybe you can wall clip with Ghost Kirby and get stuck out of bounds (only on the Japanese version, because when they translated the game they changed how out-of-bound walls are made up). (But because it requires Ghost Kirby it means you have already beaten that level so you can exit) Super Smash Bros Melee -The fastest way I've seen on nicovideo is using Name Entry Glitch in Break The Targets. -Game can otherwise be frozen in many different ways: -- Put party balls, green shells on VERY HIGH; choose Final Destination and place two Foxes on each side and reflect shells until the game eventually freezes due to too much stuff going on. -- Some way in training mode, involving putting many bob-ombs or red shells in a pit out of blocks in Green Greens, then attacking that spot. -- Homerun Contest over the limit, either the sandbag reaches the right end or the lower end. The game can't process what happens if the sandbag reaches the border of the level. -- So-called Soulbreaker glitch with Mewtwo can lead to a freeze -- A glitch that I found, which involves using Fox' up-b under the wooden bridge diagonally up left in Adventure mode. -- As Link or Young Link, kill Masterhand or Crazyhand with a thrown bomb while being grasped to freeze the game -- Possibly many more Kirby Super Star -Crashed by using up+down on a ladder, earliest doable in Great Cave Offensive. I tried to improve by going to the ladder in Gourmet Race #2 but it takes longer. -Otherwise, you can softlock the game with opposing directional input while Yoyo Kirby to make Kirby disappear forever. I don't know if the game allows you to leave the game mode or not, though. -Opposing input while in Milky Way Wishes' overworld -A crash glitch that I can't remember well. 0xwas should know about this. In Milky Way Wishes, in a previously beaten level, get Sleep(?) and leave and enter Nova(?). -Another crash(?): Turn your wheelie partner into a wheel at the same time you hop on him. This will make Kirby get stuck in mid-air, and if an enemy touches him, the game freaks out. On emulator it may not crash the game. In any case you can softlock by simply doing this where no enemy can touch you. I don't know if the game allows you to leave the game mode or not, though. Super Mario Sunshine -The earliest softlock I know is when you beat the first goop piranha and you talk to someone at the same frame that the cutscene starts playing where it shows the goop disspitating and the ground evening. -Many freezes possible, I think. But the only one I can think of: --In a Shadow Mario episode, beat Shadow Mario and spray at a graffiti and obtain the shine during the cutscene where it shows the blue coin that appeared. This will make the game "brrrr"-freeze. -You can "crash" the game by leaving the level at the same time you enter a loading zone into a new level. The game resets itself when you do this. Zelda Wind Waker -Abahbob will probably know better so I won't even try Earthbound -Can crash the game with the "Check Area glitch". -Can freeze the game if you use Walk Through Walls glitch and walk off the map too far (it will not always freeze the game, but sometimes it really lasts for 100,000+ frames). -For the record, I believe the shattered men glitch or the tree enemy that's set on fire and kills you while you kill it and win, both do not screw the game but only glitch up the graphics at most. Kirby's Adventure -You can get stuck somewhere late in the game due to bad level design. You float up and bad movement will push you inside of a wall with no way out. -Transform into stone while inside a body of water (see the glitched TAS). Fastest crash TAS would probably be the exact same as the glitched TAS. Daffy Duck The Marvin Missions (GB) -Can probably be screwed really fast. I should try it later Wario Land 2 -Clip out of bounds and touch certain blocks. Should be doable fast as well

I can't really enjoy this grimdark stuff, but I read a ton of fanfics, mostly those which are also posted on EQD. Good stuff

I want to write about the Cook glitch in detail here: - To do it, be in the very last few frames of your Cook animation at the same time that another Kirby absorbs an ability (using Crash may work too) when new enemies have walked on screen or the screen has scrolled for new enemies to be onscreen. If done correctly, fetched enemies will float in the air relative to Kirby's position. - This effect will vanish when you go through a door, L-warp out or lose your ability. The effect will stay if other Kirbys have been in the room where you did the glitch in your absence. - When you do this glitch, some kind of timer that tells how long Kirby's current animation has to last will be overwritten. Sometimes when you fetch new enemies after doing this glitch, the last one will not have reached the bowl but hang in the air until Kirby is done cooking. But the correct number of meals is cooked anyway. - The timer will be overwritten again if you do certain things like open a chest. In that case you can make the hanging enemy reach the bowl without cooking anything, which will make subsequent cooking infinite (i.e. game is softlocked). I'm planning on making a video might make a video about this at some point, and I want to investigate it more. EDIT: The timer seems to be 0x02020FB6 (16bit)! When "softlocked", it runs down from the maximum possible value or something. And then Kirby finally starts cooking after a few tenthousand frames, but then the timer starts incrementing from zero and loops forever(?). Sometimes Kirby will give out meals and end the sequence instead of looping the timer. This glitch can also be made so that Kirby will completely forget about a hanging enemy, and not cook a meal corresponding to it (the hanging enemy). In that case, if the hanging enemy is the only one on the screen, when using Cook, Kirby will ignore the hanging enemy. This glitch can be used in several rooms at once, if other Kirbys are there to keep the glitch effect up. But somehow, the hanging enemies may reduce in number; probably some kind of slot system in memory being overused. And while testing this, using Cook in a different room with no enemies twice made it so Kirby "softlocks". This glitch can, after Kirby ditches his Cook ability, cause him to inhale infinitely. Enemies or ability stars can be sucked in with no effect, or sometimes(?) they can vanish before reaching Kirby if you stop holding B. I don't understand the conditions behind all this...

I conversed with Coolkirby some, but I feel discussion should go on here. Here is a jumping trick I found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQV_52RWwxc The first time you ever go to this place there is an invisible wall preventing you from doing this. And I don't know if it can work without a groundpound, I have to test it yet. I suggest maybe someone can try this trick on the Japanese version; the invisible wall might not be there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m82YmTYFzLw Bowser world 1-1 in 161.15 (Perfect time was believed to be 160 I think) Bowser can slow down if his jumps are "bad", i.e. if he falls too fast or lands too early or something. If anyone can give me savefiles for the other two Bowser levels, I would really appreciate it!

Because I realized that using hard resets is illegitimate, I want to replace the hard resets with soft resets. I need the editing ability to do that. Without editing help or if editing makes the movie desync I will not continue the 100% WIP. So if anyone can help me with the editing, I would appreciate it.

I think a TAS of a hacked ISO is a waste of time.

More glitch-related discoveries I made: - When having Cook(?) or in general: Sometimes you can pause _during_ the Dark Metaknight cutscene. Pressing "Start" is supposed to do nothing or skip the cutscene if possible. But as mentioned, sometimes the game will just pause at certain times, under unknown conditions... - When other Kirbys have gotten themselves stuck into a miniboss battle, i.e. they cannot leave the miniboss section of a room, and L-warp, when touching the warpstar the miniboss fight may be triggered (the health bar loads). Sometimes it isn't, it's another unknown condition thing. - Regarding the recent Cook glitch I found, when you do it successfully, then the next enemy/enemies you fetch with Cook may not be flown to the bowl properly, but they may get stuck on their way to it, before reaching it. Something in the memory seems to be overwritten when you initially do the cook glitch, some kind of timer that tells the game how long to wait until all enemies have reached the bowl that has now an inaccurate value. Alright, enough glitch hunt for tonight lol

Well yeah. I mean, there's always some kind of address that stores what buttons you press in every game. Writing to that address / those addresses each frame via Lua will give you multiplayer. However, I'm far too inexperienced in Lua to make that happen and I don't have those input addresses. I just put it here so maybe someday someone else will make it happen. If VBA-linking doesn't happen or is too desync prone or whatever. EDIT 17th Oct: Well, how silly of me... I didn't think of the problem that each Kirby wouldn't have their own screen. So all you could really do with this is, do stuff when everyone is in the same room at most. any% TAS is done: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnIiOaVXb1Y Please do not repost it to nicovideo until I submit it to TASvideos.

Wouldn't that have to exist as a hack? If you wrote to RAM manually during a TAS, the RAM values wouldn't change when you played just the input back, so it couldn't be done unless there was a glitch that allowed access to the RAM to control the other Kirbys.
You would use a Lua script that commands the other Kirbys every frame, I thought.

I had a little idea for 4 player TAS. Instead of hooking up 4 emulators, why not somehow control the Kirbys by writing into the RAM? I'm not going to be developing this, it's just a thought. Also any% TAS will be complete very soon.

Thanks very much. I even managed to make the counter reset when loading a state with this method (which was previously impossible because VBA's savestate lua functions don't work).
Language: lua

oldcount = 0 oldscroll = 0 while true do gui.opacity(0.59) gui.drawbox(84,6,156,19, "black","black") gui.opacity(0.9) framecount = vba.framecount() scroll=memory.readwordsigned(0x02038730)+memory.readwordsigned(0x02038750)+memory.readwordsigned(0x02038824) if scroll == oldscroll then gui.text(90,8,"***** *****","red") lag=lag+1 end gui.text(117,10,"" .. lag) if framecount < oldcount then lag = lag - lag end vba.frameadvance() oldscroll=scroll oldcount = framecount end

I need some lua help. How can I make a lag counter based off my character's speed or position addresses? So that I can count how many times my addresses haven't updated Thanks in advance

On the topic of "stolen" TAS videos, another person (the same person?) has started uploading and monetizing TAS videos that aren't his. http://www.youtube.com/user/MonstarHanter4 I feel like this discussion should be split into a new topic.

Discovered a few glitches that I'm not gonna make a video of so I post here: - If you purposefully lose your ability and get master, your ability star is supposed to stay for a certain amount of time. But it will disappear anyway as soon as it touches water. - If you call your other Kirbys at the same time one of them uses Magic and triggers Metaknight, the Metaknight sequence won't show (as long as you're calling) but it will still inflict damage. It just looks like damage was dealt by absolutely nothing... - If you use Cook during a screen transition (after Dark Mind 4 but I think it works for any transition), you will lose your ability. You are supposed to keep it.

This is my version: I switched back to 10.3 but the video is still glitched. EDIT: I did a few test uploads. 30 FPS MPEG4 AVI -> This is the problem file 60 FPS MPEG4 AVI -> Seems to fix it, but I didn't account for the framerate change in my avisynth script, thus the resulting movie is trimmed at wrong frames 30 FPS MPEG4 AVI converted to MP4 -> Didn't fix it 30 FPS MPEG4 AVI converted to MKV -> Didn't fix it 30 FPS MPEG4 FLV1 -> Didn't fix it. What I found out: When the glitch occurs, rendering the video in another format may fix it sometimes. Rendering the video in a different framerate may fix it either sometimes or for good(?). Converting the problem video doesn't seem to fix it.
