I'm about to finish up world 3 and world 4 should be a cake walk because there's no RNG to mess with. TAS should be completed soon.

I hardly made progress the one time I picked this game up again, and then this improvement 100,000 frames ago came up, putting me right before the autoscroller game. I honestly don't know if I can finish this TAS at any point in the near future. Not to mention I graduated and need to see what to make of the future, so I might get my hands busy with other things. At least I can say right now this is not going to be finished before 2013.

Here is the latest WIP of world 1: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/903150267/8282.vbm (SML v1.0, vba24m) 9980 points gained 7 frames ahead (actually 45 frames ahead disregarding the emulation difference) --- EDIT: Halfway done with world 2. If you shoot during a fast fall, you don't lose any speed which means maybe some more points can be saved. I hope it doesn't mess with my planning too much. EDIT: Here my planning would have almost worked out, but I'm behind by one frame. Small Mario can get into the goal one frame sooner than Big Mario even though they are on the same pace, which means there's weird hitbox stuff going on..... I'm confused as to how my 2-1 and 2-2 planning goes. I can invest 3 frames for points farming but I'm somehow losing a frame somewhere... EDIT: For no apparent reason my luck manipulation for 2-3's bonus game got thrown off and this leaves me stranded with a world 2 TAS that I worked on forever and is now going to waste. This is probably because I lost a frame somewhere in 2-1 and I can't see how...

No, you need the translated chart for each.

As far as everyone tested, you have to get the triforce chart (translated) in order to get the shard. But I will test around in the next few days (which includes checking exactly all 4 spots for an island, escaping the flight platform (which has weird effects) and then trying shards early, and moving the 4 spots overwater through hacking)

This isn't really helpful. And I hope by "I hope I was help(ful)" you don't imply that this is the actual clip you had gotten... We want to clip into the glass and grab the shine. And it would be great if there was video footage of it. Everyone in the SMS community would be happy to see it work, but right now it's not even confirmed yet (by confirmed I mean, there should be a video - everyone could jump into this topic and claim stuff). If it saves 10 minutes in the TAS, it is damn worth the trouble.

Possible triforce shard locations. http://i.imgur.com/YwfL4.png The game will always use the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th for all the islands. So by knowing only one's location, you can know all of the shards' locations. It is probably determined when you start the file, but because it's so hard to test, we want to look at the memory. Sadly, I can't make Dolphin's debug mode to load up any games (gives me an invalid callstack error)

No, you lose a ton of time when doing DRC without the Deku leaf. But you could do FH,DRC,FW. --- Please do note that Zombie hovers that can be ended without tuner will refill only 1 heart whereas those ended with the tuner will give you all your hearts back, meaning you lose time since you have to take more damage for the next ZH (unless there's a save/deathwarp anyway?) ---
A TAS could manipulate Kooloh-Limpah to get the double duration hover, which might save some time in very specific areas (possibly certain rooms in TotG for example).
Tingle bombs are pretty useless - I heard they can't break the wall behind Outset, can't hit Cyclos, can't break rocks, etc... Double magic isn't required anymore, you can do Trials skip and Earth temple BK skip with just the normal meter. In Totg you can just refill from the pots every now and then - I even TASed that dungeon... ---
Tingle can't be used in any place without a map. You're still stuck with Forest Water if you want to skip the Boomerang and still skip the Light Arrows.
Because you have so much extra time to spare before forest water is ready for FW BK skip, and because it saves only 2 or 3 minutes, we are likely going to not use it. Therefore we will collect the boomerang and the boss key normally and therefore we can use LA skip with the boomerang.

We can do FW BK skip and Light arrows skip with forest water.
Luckily, we got DRC tunerless to work out great
Not yet, as I told you, it's pretty obnoxious RNG patterns to deal with but then again I only attempted one promising-looking ZH.
I guess forest water could expire any time in the dungeon, as long as you are not in mid flight at that moment...
You have to be in the same room as the chest. You can't go through doors with storage on.
But do you really have 20 minutes worth of game time stuff to do before you get there?
It's not been looked into. I'd like to wait more, and finish up some more small TASes before considering a route.
forest haven is faster with bombs anyway, which you wouldn't have by the first trip.
Why not? You use a bomb to start the ZH to the leaf.

No. Yes, because you can skip the automatic pounding to get small Mario big. This also means I have to re-TAS half of WIP 4 since it saves several frames in one room in the forest. Hopefully I can hex-edit most parts but if it turns out the luck for the main boss is crappy, I might just ditch this.

Mini Mario glitch Sadly, I didn't find a use for this and can't think of more ways to expand on it than what I already put in the video description. The TAS WIP is in the same room as the video, at the moment.

The tingle less TAS will do FW BK skip with storage DRC BK skip with ledgeclip and leaf pumping ET BK skip with ledgeclip and leaf pumping WT BK skip with zombie hover (healed by fairy) and ledgeclip

TAS WIP 4 (vbm) I stopped for some months because I couldn't motivate myself to redo several rooms over and over to manipulate luck for the bonus roulettes after Wiggler. I got same / worse luck with three different RNG values so in the end I decided to go on with the "bad" luck - it's not too bad, really, I'm just squeezing frames where possible. The next boss battle went better than expected, I killed him a round sooner. I'm too lazy to look into this, but... when he turns small, he's subsequently healed by that old dude - and apparently I skipped that healing sequence so it makes this strategy worthwhile. Next up is Woohoo Hooniversity. I could just skip the entire thing with a walk through wall bug, but it just barely doesn't work out.. Items to get: Herb, Syrup, Mushroom Supermushroom near the end somewhere - mushroom (room where light is turned on) - mushroom (mini Mario room) - mushroom (room where Mario and Luigi reunite) Boss Cackletta planned strat: Best strat to use on her is to manipulate her into copying herself for 3 rounds, this might be easy to do since using either knockback or bounce bros as Luigi can give different luck. Bros Rock isn't collected due to being too weak and having no worth in the JP version.
