Could you substitute the fireballs from the fireflower for the fireballs a red shell produces? If so that seems like it would be faster than getting the fire flower.
NICE IDEA! then we dont even need to 6/5 the level (maybe yes for the cornerclip?) edit: ok, we have to 6/5 because we dont get the red shell with 49 hopping edit2: ok we have to get the fireflower because in normal mario, the game will crash <.<

No, because you have to go to YI2 to get Yoshi then go to YI1 to swap the Charlie. It doesn't sound like it'd take a lot of time, but it does.
In my better run of world 1, using this glitch i lose theoretically 12 frames... (maybe 5-10 frames more because of the lag and/or because we have to redo that yoshicoin glitch, because of the flower) here is the smv file of my better run (only YI2 and YI1)

you can do it like in this video: Link to video at 0:35 in my test run i exactly lose 386 frames, and i think with my strat, you can save like 80 frames...

If you want a run of Luigi, it will be slower, because Luigi can't sprint as fast as Mario. Here is the speed in average of the two:
Mario:

Walking: (20 + 19 + 20 + 19 + 21)/5 = 19,8
Running: (36 + 35 + 36 + 35 + 37)/5 = 35,8
Sprinting: (48 + 47 + 48 + 47 + 49)/5 = 47,8
Flying: (50 + 49 + 48 + 47 + 51)/5 = 49

Luigi:

Walking: (20 + 20 + 19 + 21 + 20 + 19 + 21)/7 = 20
Running: (36 + 36 + 35 + 37 + 36 + 35 + 37)/7 = 36
Sprinting: (40 + 40 + 39 + 40 + 40 + 39 + 41)/7 = 39.86
Flying: (51 + 50 + 49 + 49 + 48 + 48 + 47 + 51 + 50 + 50 + 49 + 49 + 48 + 47 + 51 + 51 + 50 + 50 + 49 + 48 + 48 + 47 + 51 + 51 + 50 + 50 + 49 + 48 + 48 + 47 + 51)/31 = 49,19
Since you mostly have to sprint in the run, it will be slower. With hopping glitch with luigi, he will lose 2 pixel per 4 frames...

oh i see, but i wont redo/finish the TAS because everytime the game crash (like after every 5-10 rerecords) you have to delete the "Saves" folder and then fast forward through the whole tas, and that is very annoying after a time...

I'd suggest if a proper full run was done, that you start out the movie by deleting existing data, unlocking the no death mode via the menu accessible cheats menu, starting a new game, and then suspend > new no death mode game. Sure, this would erase existing data, but as far as tas syncability goes, it'd work far better than requiring the mode to be unlocked etc.
so, i made a movie with "no save", like from "first start"... Youtube .wtf my config: - Multithreading and Wait Sync: Allow - Frames per Second: 120 - Mute - System Time: 6000

Also, there's a trick you didn't do in the room with the cloud platforms, where you can go over instead of under to get to the left side. I don't remember how much time it saves, though.
I dont know if it really saves time, because the very fast spike platform falls down, when you come on the ground below and in this video it looks like that is slower...

yes

also I agree the horizontal platform before Tyson looked like it could've been ridden a cycle earlier... actually, how does it even move? if it's loaded as soon as you enter the screen, it could be manipulated
when you mean at 0:29 to jump on the platform, as you can see in the video, I exit and enter the screen and the plattform still moves...

you dont have to be "as close as possible to his head when shooting" to get him down you need 5 shots and there is no faster way than s_s_s_s_s (where s is the "shoot-button" and _ is a blank frame) and when you hit him at the first possible frame, then its the fastest method
Lex wrote:
are you as close as possible to the door before it opens?
yes, i've tested more methods and this is the fastest way

I wanna be the guy (short: IWBTG) is a very hard 2D game, in which you must go through rooms and dont have to die. I make a TAS of this game (on the difficulty "Impossible" of course) and I've finished world 1 (I'm after the first boss) WIP1 Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AqbmNKPxPM .wtf: http://www.mediafire.com/?cbc3415im6hmcml

I like this and I have a question: Normally, you have to hold a button, then press the "Frame Advance" key so that the game "realize" that the button is pressed. In IWBTG you have to press Shift to jump and there is my problem. If I hold Shift and try to press the Frame Advance key but it doesn't go to the next key. thanks for help
