...The point is that it makes no sense to aim for time when time is fixed.

To me this is precisely the kind of game I had in mind when I pushed for the changes to score rules. This game is one where time in and of itself might not make the most sense as a goal, but there is an extremely obvious meaningful record to aim for. Also somehow I found this entertaining so I voted yes.

I disagree. Yes there are multiple mini-games like Decathlon. But in this movie the mini-games are all on a fixed timer, with 'fixed timer' meaning that the player is forced to play for a predetermined amount of time. If sports games on a fixed timer like football, soccer, and basketball are not individually Vault eligible, I don't see why combining them into a single TAS would change anything. This TAS functions the same as four consecutive fixed-timer sports games.
That would make sense if it was not for the fact that this is clearly aiming for score...

New post because UHHHHHHHHH WHAT JUST HAPPENED: Link to video User movie #65274877142974390 EDIT: ok so I figured out what is going on. When you slide off a ledge two things happen: 0x044774 in combined WRAM gets set to 8 and your current y-position temporarily gets stored somewhere (haven't bothered finding where yet). If you fall far enough from this point, you lose the special state, but you can maintain it by grappling and avoid ever going below that initial position. If you land on the ground, that will also make you lose this state. Then if you get hit, your y-position will be reset to what it was stored to. Problem is... this complicated setup makes it near worthless. In order to grab keys you need to land on the ground. Additionally getting hit in this game makes you go down a powerup level. EDIT2: Saved a frame earlier in Bank 1 but due to RNG with the screen clearing attack I'd have to save additional frames to make the time save stick. Still posting here for posterity's sake: User movie #65383598605322965 EDIT3: Link to video User movie #65433928737930587 EDIT4: slightly out of date, saved 3 frames on the boss.

Except there's a save glitch that is also possible on this particular version, making it unvaultable.

The fact that you can make a game out of something does not make the original thing a game. If something were to be rejected for not being a game, that is what we mean.

I disagree with that honestly, Ring Attack was extremely heavily glitched so I don't feel it really fits the same vibe.

I'm also interested (I have a team in mind but need to confirm all the members), but I feel Option 2 is just way too long for a contest like this.

I don't see any subtitles in that video? Unless they're a decent ways in. Also is there an easy way to verify 100%?

I'd like to state that I have a similar opinion on entertainment here to that of Samsara. There is no real entertainment to be derived from this submission that cannot be obtained from watching the glitchless run. You'd think the glitch would hold some appeal but I literally forgot what it looked like immediately after having watched the run and upon rewatching I don't think it's interesting to look at. The main difference is that it's shorter, which fails the guideline of "Keep the number of different branches per game minimal. A run for a proposed new branch for a game should offer compelling differences relative to previously published runs of that game."

Not quite. Although it wouldn't be a major stretch to say that they can be, because the concept is the same as game shows, quiz bowls, trivia games, and related variants. But typically a high school test would lack the intentionality part of the definition. Imitating the actions of a game is distinct from intentionally playing a game.
What do you even mean with intentionality?

I mean we do have restrictions in that a bootleg etc can't just be a small modification of an official game, but otherwise yeah.

...Tbh the whole unofficial games sections of the rules should probably be rewritten. They're extremely confusing. I personally know how we actually handle bootlegs but it's not well written in the rules at all.

I can rephrase this as "save glitch is too short, and full run is too long, so neither is really entertaining". Does CCG feel like enjoyable gameplay then? Having at least one Moons level branch for gen2 sounds like a pro.
1. I don't think CCG is even that well received. 2. Thing is I'm personally not a fan of having a branch with a weak definition as "Avoids one setup in particular for game end glitch". Technically both this and save glitch could be obsoleted by an even faster GEG that doesn't involve save glitch.

Like I'm not deadset on obsoleting this branch but it doesn't match up with the precedents we set for other games and I'd feel we'd need to consider revisiting them.

I'd argue that that isn't so much an example of being powerful as being able to be performed early. ACE is arguably as powerful as a TAS can get. Yes other techniques might be faster by sheer coincidence, but no other technique is able to actually let you control the game the way you can with ACE. Could you get into a total control setup from this glitch?

I think that console verification flag should just be that the movie more or less runs on console. Slight modifications are fine. I don't see why it should be treated as a mark of superior accuracy or whatever.

Can I get some more feedback here? I really liked the skitching trick and felt this was up there as one of the most entertaining Atari 2600 TASes I've ever watched.
