By the time I'm finished watching this run I would have worked out that entire sum in my head.

I seriously doubt we'll ever see a cam hack of the full version, but did Nitsuja use it while making the movie, as anyone knows trying to optimize zipping glitches in any Sonic game is a nightmare never mind doing not being able to see Sonic for 90% of the game and unless you have a bot that brute forces every input then you'll never trully know if what you've done is optimal.

It looks like it thinks you are holding down the left arrow in the angular display, so maybe it would stop if you clicked on that button. Also, you can close the input window by holding left-click on it and hitting alt-F4, and you can reopen it by bringing up the input plugin settings, so you could try using that to "reboot" the input plugin without restarting the whole emulator.
I tried when it happened again and it doesn't work, it doesn't seem to allow any inputs since its covering all the frames of input into my computer.

OK, I've done the cage star and its over 1 and half seconds quicker so overall its about 5.667 seconds faster than the owl. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2627/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 Now I'll move on to "Blast away the wall star". EDIT: FODA, can you give me some tips on the star mentioned above, I can't seem to grab the invisble ledge. EDIT_2:

why was is worth it to do the lobby glitch to enter WF but not CCM?
To be worth it I'd have to be >6 seconds quicker as thats the amount of time it takes to gain control in a world and exit. I'd need to travel a little a further to activate the lobby glitch and I would need to waste time in using the lobby glitch on the right or waste more time in monovering to CCM via the left side. Overall it would take about 14 seconds getting to the door to CCM, entering the painting and exiting normally. It would take about 9-10 seconds to enter the paint world and another six to exit so it would be aproximatley waste 1-2 seconds using the lobby glitch, whie for WF it takes time to reach the door and slightly longer once you've gained control afterwards as well as exiting the place. Of course if you or anyone else feels what I've said is wrong you're more than entitled to have a go once I've finished the run. FODA, whats your idea for the 16 star route.

It ran perfectly fine without desyncs good job, although hopefully with some new abilties you might be able to do some more surprising things.

This is just a test run on the Cage Star its over 4 seconds faster than the owl which is amazing considering how unoptimized it is. I've found out the secret behind it and that is that Mario must hit the seams of the cage at a very finite angle so that he faces perpindicular to the cage as opposed to paraell, which is what normally should happen, it should be possible with a sideflip, which would save at least 2 seconds. Although I wasn't able to land directly on the star. I had to pause for a while otherwise Mario would shoot a mile up in the air after collecting the star. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2617/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64 I'm now almost guaranteed to be 20 seconds faster than the 16:07. EDIT: Here's a video I made of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnWbX-gYjCU

It kind of feels disapointing watching this after recently seeing the S3+K run, since it stole the glitched out movie crown. I understand why most of the zipping was happening ,but how come when MM walks normally into a certain walls he imeadiatley zips through? Still a yes vote though.

Not really anything to critizize although its really hard to tell becuase everything scrolls so fast, but it doesn't really bother me too much as its just general boring stuff you're scrolling through. Have you thought about changing you're deck later on, since you'll absolutley need it for the Elite 4/bird trainer. Just do the clubs in a way that'll take less time to travlel in the overworld.

It ran fine for me except it desynced a few seconds from the end of the movie just as you're about o collect the lum on top of the ship, you mess up the jump leading to it then you keep running against the ship before you fall to the ground. BTW, did you try to avoid some of the cutscenes e.g. bady Gloobox scene or the whose king scene. There probally is a way, but you'd have to experiment.

Well... All of the sonic runs on this site (with the exception of Sonic Spinball, which doesn't really count) don't get the emeralds. They all have the "Ignores semi-important goals in the game" tag on them. I'd like to finally see a fun that gets all of the emeralds, and right now, you're as close as we can get. So right now, this is heading for "Best ending" with maybe "Plays using a suboptimal character" or "Plays at hardest difficulty" as well. Because, like you said, Knuckles is meant to be the harder character to play. Plus I've never seen the Knuckles ending...
I think you're missing something here. I submitted this run a while ago but it never got accepted, and it wasn't becuase of a poor execution. EDIT: I'd much rather see all the super emeralds being collected and thus gettting the Doomsday stage and thus a proper ending, getting the first seven emeralds and ignoring the rest just makes it a sorta kinda 100% run, the super emerald stages are actaully a lot more entertaining than the normal emerald stages since they actually look hard to do when watching.

What are your expectations for the final time? Since the other TAS was 16:07 and new tricks have been discovered since then I'm guessing 15:40-15:50
You're more or less correct I'd say at the moment the minimal expected time is 15:52. EDIT: Silent Slayers method for ascending WF is a good second slower, so it'll be the tradional method. I've tried all weekend on a console to so the Cage star without the Cannon/Owl or Whowp but I can't quite seem to get it. Is it possible to do it with a sideflip?

I've now entered WF using the lobby glitch and its took about 8 seconds to do, so overall it saves about 5 seconds.

It ran fine up until you were at the overworld section bit leading to the second level, you take ages to get through the text and your analougue stick movments keep changing during it and then you start doing funny things when you eventually get into the level. I have a feeling that you've enabled the expansion pack for this game which causes random desyncs across many N64 games, maybe disabling it might help.

So where's the program, it would be good for me as I need to extract large portions of my prevoid Sonic 1 run into a full ingame run.

Here's my CCM WIP, I made a 3 frame improvement over the penguin star becuase it was closer and no improvment on the wall kicks star, I'm just going to WF, the normal way so I could time it and I reckon it take 19 seconds normally. Now considering it took me 13 seconds to get to bowser from the main lobby door, I don't think there is any question of not using the Lobby glitch, its literallly going to take me 8-10 seconds to do and it takes six seconds to re-enter and quit a normal paint world, so its lobby glitch for the win. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2584/SUPER%20MARIO%2064%20%28USA%29.m64

If this is the case then continue a little to see how often it desyncs, but like I did with MM, just keep doing something till it looks OK, it doesn't have to be frame perfect it it desyncs every so often.

Those who are against that are in the minority, though. Besides, we have no other King's Bounty runs yet, and it this one would be entertaining to those familiar with the game (and for those who aren't, there's always a description text to clarify everything important). That's why it is accepted, IMO.
But the minority you're refering to have a universal point. Its like manipulating a win in Chess in 3 in moves and then saying the chances of the computer acidently letting someone win in 3 moves is 1 in 400 trillion. If it was several insane luck manipulations that beat the game in less than a minute then I might have thought differently. Asides I don't think the game is familar enough to the general audience to understand whats actually happening. See my point.

I'll be redoing everything today anyways; if there's still a desynch there; A) you have the correct ROM? U 1.0 B) I noticed that it's a place where you're stuck running in place until the right angle where you can slide into the drainwhen it opens, so it might be very frame sensitive
I definitley have the right rom and settings.

I'll watch it later, sounds like you're making great progress already although this will probally take you a long time and a lot of re-records and planning as well and you'll also have to experiment to see if certain shortcuts or maybe glitches are possible. EDIT: I've watched and it desyncs where that yellow lum and drain is as you're endlessly running against it and jump on it, what I've seen so far looks OK though.

To all the people arguing over whether doing the lobby glitch is worth it for Bowser#1 then here's something that'll help your judgement, of course its very hard to get the comparison exact, but it takes into consideration the "whoa you got a star" text. The one on the left is mine, the one on the right is the 16:07, and our times for Bowser#1 are very close. http://files.filefront.com/compareavi/;6139580;;/fileinfo.html

I'd love to see a TAS on this game since its a game with Linear levels, but with a little back tracking since I think to complete certain levels and advance to later on levels you need to get certain abilties in order to advance to later levels. I'm not sure if any time glitches are there, but I'm more than certain that shortcuts exist within the game so its a good candidate for a TAS.

No, because I don't know what this is.
Sorry Nitsuja, I uploaded that several weeks ago, but I've re-uploaded this again (sorry couldn't resist that joke). It happens randomly and it causes me to close Mupen down and re-start.
