and even with super metroid or super mario games, we ALWAYS desagree on the goals / views, the entertainement / speed ratio, and all other factors like in-game/ real time timers...
but in all the cases when there is one, the "end of the game " state must be reached.
i found an interesting thread about it there:
http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10470&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
while i was trying to remember of a run that got rejected cause it didn't finish the game but simply got the completed "flag" set ( of course my memory might get me wrong on this )
the only way fast lock "could" be incorporated in a TAS is if the game loops endlessly ( like donkey kong 3 / space invaders for atari) then locking the game after completing a loop "could" be conssidered as a good and entertaining way to close a run.
Tanks Worked like a charm !
Well, for a 2h movie, i don't see any major mistakes. Maybe a possible improvement might come from a better turtle manipulation but right now, it fits as a vault publication...
Yes under the new rules
Just pointing out that this game is a homebrew, not a hack.
The Vault rules do not specifically forbid homebrew or unlicensed games, only hacks. It even says that unlicensed games are allowed, so make of that what you will.
the line is thin on this one
anyway, if the definition of this game makes it acceptable for the vault i'm for it's publication and same the goes for the jurasic park 2 nes tas
but again, where is the line between hacks and unlicenced games ?
I also do not understand why, but in the 16-bit era it was common for enemies to explode to show that they were dead or blink to show that they were receiving damage.
It saves the developers from having to create more complicated death animations. It's reasonable to not expect to see an enemy any more if they explode (the remaining pieces would be too small to be worth drawing), but otherwise you end up having to either show the corpse, using up memory and processor cycles, or have the corpse mysteriously vanish, which feels odd to the player. Oddly, making every enemy out of explosives feels less odd..
it's just what they wanted you to think, the real truth is that michael bay directed the game
yes vote
I can fastlock any game in realtime with a big enough hammer....
Actually should de add a "tilt cartrige" option in bizhawk ?
The concept of gamelock is too wide to be "judgeable" for exemple in the wind waker run,
The game is not "freeze locked " but in a "don't know what code to run" locked...
It's not the same console state. The concept might be fun if unexpted but alone is not enough to deserve its own category...
Acually it seems to be the jurasic parc 1 graphic motor with some palett swap...
My point In that question is : should we consider unlicenced games as hacks (like we could with rainbow street fighters) or should de give them a full game status (as squirel kings)
Some hacks looks much more "professional" and are much more polished than most of our currently published unlicenced games (super demo world comes as an exemple or the nes supermario metroid crossover...)
Also should de conssider fan made games as un official games or as hacks ?
No, it's unoptimized by probably a couple seconds. which seems huge to me in this game. there's even a decent shortcut I didn't notice until after I had passed that part.
Edit: Also, I refuse to have an official encode of this video that doesn't spam "cat planet" all over the place constantly. I feel it's a necessary part of the artistic value put into this TAS.
Also I suppose I could revive this submission if there was high enough demand for it being published, since I doubt I actually get around to redoing this.
the demand in cats is always high
this game should be at least vaulted !
Speaking of multiplayer, would a coop run be able to produce any noticible time saving? I forget if you could actually clear multiple shards separately
I'm not sure the emulator for GBA tases supports it though.
Yes vote for improvement on existing run.
there is the 4player marathon run on the sda and by the hilarously awesome result
the game tendency to lag when the kirbys splits might kill all the saved time...
This movie by the current rules of the Vault this movie seems eligible. But I think it provides a good test case. We want to accept versions of games on other platforms, but how similar is too similar? Is this too similar even for the Vault?
ports too close to an original publication shouldn't be accepted, or it could create some "same movies on different platforms" redondencies...
I would prefer seeing this obsoleted by a version that completes all eight levels.
If you mean a 100% run: that's another category so I doubt it'd obsolete this.
As far as publishing this is concerned: looking back, I don't really feel to strongly either way. Yes, it's probably the current record, but I'm fairly sure it's still not optimal.
and the ending is a serious nightmare fuel... seriously...
So the rules of the Vault tier allow for "full game completion". Doesn't get much more full than this...
Actually, I think it could get even fuller - maxing out the clock to 9999:59 or however long it lasts. The current "1000 hours" is actually a completely arbitrary end goal.
