Mothraya...s (that s is for uniqueness, more or less) And I picked it it the first place because 1) The game in question is awesome, and 2) "Moth" sounds awesome.

Isn't it slightly faster to use crouch cancel rather than jump cancel? I tried doing that, and it seems to be about the same time, if not a tiny bit faster.

This is one of the best TASes I've seen in a long time. Very nice management of energy, and very nice route. It's fun to see the game cleared without the benefits of either the Varia or the Gravity suit. Clear yes vote.

I vote no. First off, props for the major glitching. Very nice technical achievement. But when you look at the run (not knowing exactly what's going behind the scenes at the time), you see Mario summoning fish, jumping around and doing some other things seemingly randomly as if it's a freerun, until suddenly a "THE END" screen appears. The music doesn't even change to accomodate the fact. Yes, that is strictly by definition an ending and therefore finishing the game. But I don't see doing seemingly random things until a "the end" screen appears as an acceptable or presentable way to get to the ending. At least take those 3 frames and get to the credits, that would already make it much more watchable. I currently don't see it as an acceptable way to finish the game/end the movie. Now, I'm not going to argue this further. If you don't like my vote, ignore it. I see it already has 40 yes votes (and no mehs/nos) so the single no vote won't matter much anyway.

I've heard that the MMBN4 errors on non-GBA systems only applied to one of the two game versions. So you'd be fine using the other version. Weird, I know.

Watched it. Very nice, it's much more entertaining to watch than MMBN1 because there are much more battles. Yes vote. Also, here are some screenshots I took while watching:

Yes, that's why I said "for the most part". Sure, the music was still allright, but the visuals were still pretty much botched beyond recognition.

Props to the TASer for actually beating the published movie, unlike last time and countless other cases. Too bad it's on the wrong version though, and that the PAL version has a faster submission still.

Zipping isn't lag based. And I have tested out a bit of Rockman Complete Works 1, and the engine is identical to the NES version, and zipping is still present. (Even worse, it's not possible to instant switch to Magnet Beam so about half of the weapon switches would still be there). And half of the music isn't remixed. So TASing RCW1 would be a bad idea. (I think RCW2 would have the same issues as well). The best RCW games to TAS are 4, 5 and 6, IMO.

Yeah... But by falling down, RockMan gets to slide across a few more tiles of ground rather than hovering over them at jumping speed!
I know that, but I'm pretty sure the extra sliding time won't make up for the 120 frames wasted by the screen transition. Also, here's an encode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EOv7eeKnZo

Mega Man 5 and 6 got one song on the list each (Proto Man Fortress and Flame Man respectively). Mega Man 4 didn't get anything (so far), which I find surprising with its overall very good soundtrack (IMO), especially Cossack 3+4. Regardless I like the list very much. I discovered some impressive music pieces and soundtracks I'd never have known of otherwise.

Proto Man would be a bit slower than Bass, mostly because the slide jump doesn't conserve dash/slide speed like Bass' dash jump does. Otherwise, both characters are close to identical. He's still significantly faster than Mega Man, though, because of the slide.

Okay, I have seen the movie. I have taken some notes while watching.
  • I saw you did use Navi Mode. Good. I like the remixed music.
  • I noticed you used autofire during the title and menu sequences. This is bad, because autofire is not always optimal.
  • I noticed you used the same route as Shinryuu. However, could it not have been faster starting at Flame Man? There's no charge glitch to worry about anymore, and Rush Jet Adapter could save quite a bit of time in Wind Man's stage.
  • In Wind Man's fight, you may have been able to fit in the uncharged shot optimally after a charged shot, rather than just right at the end.
  • Flame Man fight was not optimal. He could have been luck manipulated better so he doesn't jump.
  • From Blizzard Man's stage on, the instant weapon switching was already looking neat. I liked the use of Wind and Flame weapons.
  • Blizzard Man's fight was badly luck manipulated. You should have manipulated him so he doesn't use the roll attack.
  • I saw you use some unnecessary weapn switches in Plant Man's stage, especially after the boss fight. This causes unnecessary lag, slowing you down slightly. This also happened a couple times further on.
  • I may be wrong, but it looked like there were more waits in the spring section of Plant Man's stage than necessary.
  • You took very sloppy-looking damage at the end of Tomahawk's battle.
  • Knight Man fight also suffered from bad manipulation. It would be faster if he stayed on the ground rather than jumping high and you using Rush Jet to reach him.
  • Near the end of Centaur Man's stage, you used the bottom entrance for the boss fight. Isn't the top one faster in the PSX version because you could almost freely hover there? It would save one screen transition.
  • Centaur Man fight was another fight that had bad manipulation. You should have manipulated him to walk, not to teleport.
  • The Mettonger Z bossfight (Mr. X 3 stage) had a very sloppy looking ending. Couldn't you just hit him with a last power fist from the front?
  • There were noticable delays between some hits in the Mr. X fight.
  • Mechazaurus, the Wily 1 boss, again suffered from bad luck manipulation.
  • During the boss refights in Wily 3, I noticed luck manipulation was quite better for Knight Man and Centaur Man. Flame Man was better, but still had a large jump which wasted time. Blizzard Man was also good. You should have tried to beat them this quick while fighting them for the first time.
  • On Wily Machine 1 fight, there appeared to be an unnecessary delay on the final hit. Couldn't you hit him sooner and finish the first round earlier?
  • After the Wily Capsule fight, you had 4 Tomahawk Blades left. It would be faster if you used them on the Wily Machine right before that, rather than using Rush Power Adaptor.
Also of note: contrary to the description, this run is actually 00:09.72 (583 frames) faster than Shinryuu's TAS. That's including the start delay (which is about 1230 frames (00:20.50), so it is actually an improvement of 00:30.22 (1813 frames) over the NES run. All things considered, it's clear that there are some technical mistakes, but I think personally that the added entertainment from the instant weapon switching outshines the technical flaws in the TAS, and I think it deserves publication. I have no idea whether TASVideos will accept the run for either game choice or optimization issues, but I will vote yes for publication either way.

maybe it uses L and R to switch weapons. If so, should be awesome.
I have done tests in some of the PSX games once, and unfortunately there's 1 frame of lag every time L or R is used to switch weapons. That means that an optimized run can't freely switch weapons the way Mega Man X games or Mega Man 10 can. A weapon would only be used if it saves more than a couple of frames, or if it's in the way of switching to another weapon which would be necessary later. So it wouldn't be as awesome as what we're used of seeing from MMX and MM10.
