Actually, there is a little bit of interest in MM10: Me and AngerFist are planning to do a run as soon as Dolphin is accepted at the site. We've been having occasional chats on it on IRC. A thread wasn't made yet because there wasn't anything major to make a thread about yet. I think that we'll use Proto Man in our run, because the slide and charged shot help immensely to save several minutes of time, and also has a Jet right away so Blade Man can be done earlier. As for a route, we aren't sure yet. I'm thinking of Chill Man > weakness order, right now. --- I watched your run, it looked pretty meh as far as TAS gameplay goes, entertainment-wise. You basically used Triple Blade anywhere where you didn't use something else to speed up movement. That would look impressive in a regular speedrun, but not in a TAS. Mega Man 10's greatest benefit of TASing is the ability to juggle weapons almost freely, and that should be put to maximum use in a TAS for entertainment.

DeSmuME can only record both screens at a time to an AVI. To edit the AVI from there you need to use avisynth. To place both screens next to each other, use an avisynth script like this:
A = AviSource("desmumedump.avi", pixel_type="RGB32")
A = A.crop(0,0,256,192)
B = A.crop(0,192,256,192)
StackHorizontal(A,B)

Watched Ryuto's encode. He just turned one of the most epic and entertaining runs on the site into something even better. Big yes vote.

It's the same ROM choice as the published run (which he copied the first half of his submission text from), so you can't really blame him on that.

Looks very nice. Any chance you could make something like that for Mega Man X3?

Can I ask what the deal is with all these "Episode x" TASes on DOS games? I can understand "Episode 1" runs because of that whole shareware demo's thing that only have the first episode available, but after that it just turns into doing arbitrary sections of one game in multiple TASes to me.

Pause trick doesn't do anything on Mega Buster than delaying the bullets, though, since you can't hit multiple times with one bullet and invincibility still has to run out anyway.

I'm curious too. But if this submission gets 200 Yes votes, the percentage of No votes should round down to 0%. (I don't think there will be that many votes, but it would be nice to see.)
If I recall correctly, submission vote percentages always round down, so it would be 0% at 100 yes votes (101 votes total). That's a lot closer than 200.

I don't think additional ranks are needed for point counts over 5000. Only adelikat and maybe one or two other people in the future ever get so many points to warrant new ranks at such high point counts anyway.

On the other hand, given how glitchy this game has been revealed to be, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way for Forte/Bass to retrieve those buried CDs. Like catching 152 pokemon in under two minutes, that sort of glitchiness.
Then again, it doesn't really seem like a 100% run if you don't actually collect the items yourself. If I want to see a 100% run I want to see all those 100% being collected, not seeing them randomly pop up after the credits.

Mmarks, I greatly recommend to you to stop and think before you TAS. Collecting all non-Rush Search CDs first and then thinking about the Rush Search ones is both unpractical and suboptimal, since if it's even possible to get them you would need to revisit all stages again, or redo the entire TAS - which means there isn't a point to do the non-Rush CDs first in the first place.

Yeah, I'm also starting to lean towards killing Bit & Byte now, because when taking charged weakness weapons into account the bossfights would look a lot neater. Charged Frost Shield does 5 damage on Bit and charged Tornado Fang does 5 damage on Byte, and can hit him multiple times. The battles would go like this: Bit: Charged Frost Shield (-5), then repeated uncharged frost shield (-3). Eventually he would reach 3 health: I'd have to either kill him with Frost Shield, or shoot with a charged and an uncharged buster shot. Disregarding the explosion wasting extra time, Frost Shield would be a few seconds faster, and look neater as well. Byte: Charged Tornado Fang (-5) until he's down to 2 health: then I can either finish him off with Tornado Fang (either charged or uncharged) or Ray Splasher, or charge up an X-Buster shot. Finishing him off would be at least 20 frames faster, and again look neater.

There's already a Mega Man IV topic here, and a Mega Man V topic here. This thread is kind of redundant. On the other hand, I'm interested in seeing complete TASes of both of these games. Please provide more WIPs and finish the games.

I'm going to work on this myself. WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1473047849/Mega%20Man%20X%203%20%28U%29.smv This WIP finishes the intro stage. I intend to keep Zero alive, to count for best ending (so no Z-Saber). I'm not sure yet what to do with Bit and Byte; for now I think I'll keep both alive (which is fastest).

That's assuming everyone would think enough to see that Mario zipping through the stages at lightspeed is not a hack or cheat, but instead a programming error. People will more easily think of the former two rather than the latter one, and because they think they're right (and they're ignorant) they will keep posting things like that.

Personally I like the idea of designing a game with TASing in mind. I probably wouldn't put a bluntly accessible TAS mode into it, though. Instead, making just a general play recording mode and allowing some cheats would probably work just as well. Think like cheats that slows down the game, allows frame advance, or rerecording, or show a list with relevant values e.g. position and speed, substituting for RAM watch. Furthermore, a TASer would of course want to make a TAS-worthy game out of it: this doesn't mean it has to be hard to complete normally, but instead it should just be action-packed to appeal to viewers of the TAS. In the game you should be able to move quickly and be able to blow stuff up quickly, for instance. And bring waiting periods to a minimum.
