The submission was edited, which triggered a delayed TASVideos Grue reaction (who did not exist yet at the original time of rejection).

Publishing a run that's already been properly obsoleted by a new submission, and claiming "that's the current Contra TAS record", doesn't feel perfectly right either.
Not only does it not feel right, it's a blatant violation of the requirement that publications must beat existing records. If the site publishes a movie knowing that a faster movie already exists (and is on the submission queue), it's violating its own rule. It's unfortunate whenever this happens to an already-accepted submission, but this is not the first time it has happened. No movie is confirmed for publication until it has reached the movie publication list. Accepted movies can still be rejected in light of new evidence.

Take note of this movie rule in particular:
Movie Rules wrote:
The movie must be good In particular: A speed-oriented movie must beat all existing records If your movie is going to beat something, be sure it beats it. If your tool-assisted movie is not faster than the non-tool-assisted world record for the same game, aiming for the same goals, your movie will be rejected. Do your research to avoid this. Look for the existing unassisted speedrun records. Look for previous TAS movies in the submission queue or on the forums. Check places such as YouTube or NicoVideo for speedruns, tool-assisted or otherwise. Failure to beat existing movies will result in rejection.

My position on HappyLee's TAS was well known and the attitude he was presenting during the entire time. The TVC subscribers is basically learning the fact people weren't like/used to a GDQ upload style on TVC.
Thank you for confirming the statement that you deliberately shoved down dozens of re-encodes at once on TASVideoChannel for the explicit purpose of hurting HappyLee's movie views. And considering how recent these messages actually are, to this date it appears you still did/do not even consider it to be wrongdoing. I have no words for how disgraceful this behavior is for a staff member.

EDIT: Obviously this provides no evidence that spikestuff was behind the YT comments but it pretty clearly proves that the re-encodes were done specifically in response to Super Mario Bros.
I've been presented with most of the evidence provided in the top post by BrunoVisnadi. While it contains a lot of compelling material, there's little in there that's truly conclusive so it's hard to make a definite statement on it. This, however, looks like a pretty definite admission to abuse of the publication/staff role to not only single out an user's movie, but even go as far as to sabotage one of the main TASVideos publication outlets just in order to do so. I would really like to see an explanation from Spikestuff for these comments, and an explanation from the senior publisher(s) in charge of his staff position why he is still allowed a staff role in light of this.

If a game is unrated (does not have an ESRB rating) but would be considered AO if it were, it is not allowed. Not every adult game is rated by the ESRB (due to not being released in the U.S., or being from a time before the ESRB was formed, etc.), so for these games we as site staff draw a line on what's considered adult-only or not (the intent being to be as consistent as possible with actual ESRB ratings for comparable games).

What?
I'm not sure what's unclear about it. You can, for example, run the original PS2 version of San Andreas, despite the fact that it's rated AO, as long as Hot Coffee content is not accessed in any way. The same principle goes for all other games that have censored M-rated game versions and uncensored AO-rated game versions. Any content that's exclusive to the AO version would not be allowed.

It is legitimate, if unusual, to nominate an obsolete TAS. There are a few general potential reasons, like a notable difference in entertainment, or the unobsolete movie being ineligible due to some other reason (different system, Vault, etc.) In this case, it's quite clear that some people disagree with some of the entertainment choices in the current TAS, and hence prefer the other one even if that one is actually slightly slower. That is a possible and valid reason to like a movie more, and hence, to nominate a movie. After all, it's impossible to please everyone in entertainment. Now, both movies were nominated, and yours got more than twice the amount of votes the other movie did, and you only barely lost the award outright to an unrelated movie. Clearly this shows that there is more preference to your movie than to the previous one. At this point, I'm not sure what you still want to achieve by posting about controversy here. The movie has been published half a year ago in Stars, the award votes have been cast with your movie well in favor of the other one, and...there really is nothing else left to gain here. So, I will reiterate what GoddessMaria quoted, and say to let it go and move on. There is nothing left to gain at this point, and no need for even more controversy after everything that has already happened so far.

If it's rated as AO, it's not allowed. If it's rated as something less than AO, it is allowed. If a game has different ratings based on specific content in the game, if the movie accesses content that's rated AO it's not allowed. If it does not access AO-rated content, it is allowed. I don't see any contradiction.

We've concluded that [3793] DOS King's Quest: Quest for the Crown by DrD2k9 in 00:18.30 was excluded by mistake in judging Speedy TAS nomination entries. As such, it has now been added to the poll. As a consequence, the poll has been reset. Apologies for the inconvenience.

I'd like to point out that the point of requiring nominations to be justified is precisely to weed out nominations that were added in previous years but were not actually considered proper candidates (as Nach pointed out last year). So, the fact that these sort of movies were nominated in previous years does not mean anything. And as Nach pointed out, CD-Man is a different case.

Maru did some very impressive Mario work late into the year. gifvex and TiKevin83 also did good in breaking classic Pokémon games as usual. Lastly, Woops venturing into the 3D world with some quality Tomb Raider TASes. These four are my picks.

This looks like it will be a very interesting matchup between the classic DOS side (represented by slamo) and the new Linux side (represented by keylie). Curious to see where it'll go.
