I believe your intent here, but as I look the general tone of this thread, and the manner of throwing big paragraphs of arguments with italicized and size-increased lines about how the other person failed to make any point; I think it might be helpful to have a bit more tact and positive encouragement. With that, a disclaimer like this wouldn't be necessary.
That goes for many of the posts in this thread, to be honest.
It's okay to point out room for improvements in a submission, or give criticism on comments made, but I think the way it is going in this thread is more discouraging than anything else.

Agreed, "Moons" gives it an implied special label (like what "Stars" does). The flag for esoteric goals isn't supposed to make it special, so it's better to just give it something descriptive. "Demo" flag has been suggested, but I don't know if there are better ideas.

Cool improvement! Nice to see this game and category still getting new in-stage route innovations. Yes vote.

I've talked about this in some private discussions, that the inherent nature of a strict tiering system is that some tiers will be seen as lesser and some seen as superior.
For something like that to be fixed, I would like to scrap the idea of a strict tiering system entirely, and do something akin to old TASVideos were publications were just publications, with just Stars representing the top publications (with some hand-picked Moons representing a larger group of top publications).
The way I see something like this suggestion pan out, we'd still have Stars for the top, a Demo grouping for esoteric goals, and the other movies with standard goals being just standard publications. Just scrap the nomenclature of Moons and Vault, I think they just make things harder to understand and give implicit preferences that shouldn't exist for one of the two types of publications.
That aside I do like the ideas that are presented.

Not really - .pjm files are noticably bigger than .bk2 files, although they can be better compressed by zipping (because bk2 files are already zipped to begin with). This is also not the largest submission, either zipped or unzipped.
Some comparisons:
FF VIII (8 hours, .pjm binary format) - 87KB zipped, 15458KB unzipped
FF IX (7.5 hours, .pjm text format) - 205KB zipped, 54651KB unzipped
TOCA (10.5 hours, .bk2 analog) - 1329KB zipped, 1581KB unzipped
This movie (5.5 hours, .bk2 no analog*) - 535KB zipped, 898KB unzipped
Same movie but spiked and better compression - 143KB zipped, 275KB unzipped
*(there are analog values stored in the file, but it's all the same numbers every time so bk2/zip should be able to compress it to negligible size)
I'm actually not sure what makes this submission have issues with size. I'll see if I can resolve it.
EDIT: Movie file has been replaced with the spiked version. Not sure what the issue was (besides apparent poor compression of the original file) - it should have been able to pass the server-side filesize checks even before the recompression.

Near (formerly known as byuu), emulator coder of bsnes, higan and ares fame (alongside many other emulation-based projects) has, according to a document from an anonymous friend, committed suicide. This was posted some time after a series of tweets from Near, describing how their life was effectively destroyed beyond repair because of cyberbullying efforts.
At the time of writing, no direct confirmation of Near's death exists yet, but more news might emerge in the upcoming days, and several tech blogs and gaming websites have already picked up the story.
I'll keep this post updated as news develops.
Update 06-28: A day after the initial tweet by marcan42, he followed up with a tweet stating that he contacted the police department in charge of the investigation, and they have confirmed that Near passed away the day before. No outside news source to corroborate it has been known yet.
Update 07-23: USA Today posted a news article, "Respected developer who was bullied online dies by suicide.". The news article includes an interview of Near's employer, who confirmed their death.

There is no "verification movie file to unlock Zero" possible, you can normally unlock him mid-game for a given playthrough. That's why the tweaker is required in the first place, to be able to start a run with Zero at all.

That was very nice to watch. Love how the two runs are synced up most of the time, it does a great job to highlight each character's strengths and weaknesses. Very entertaining, voted yes.

The input polls are read from the dtm the same way, otherwise it wouldn't have been possible to sync the movie at all. It's just some difference with the 60Hz prompt that's causing the input to be shifted. Once that difference is negated, it just syncs as normal.
Yeah, the encode was recorded at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Since it was just a quick temporary encode, I didn't bother adjusting it.

Dolphin Lua Core uses Dolphin 5.0 as a base, without any changes to emulation itself that I know of, so any valid run made on Dolphin Lua Core should sync on Dolphin 5.0 as well (but it's good to confirm just to be sure)
The steps were just to make sure that you get memory card data that's compatible with the TAS - once the memory card data is confirmed to work it can be set to read-only, but only after that is confirmed.
No, I mean the input desyncs and the cursor moves all the way to Dr. Mario's portrait instead of the random select area. It has nothing to do with the RNG. And it would desync because some part of the 60Hz prompt takes a different amount of time to go away, thus causing desyncs with the menu input.

I've been able to sync this TAS on a clean Dolphin 5.0 (vanilla) install. Dual Core was turned off, aside from that no settings changes were needed.
Sync steps:
1) Start up the game - the game will prompt to reformat the memory card (presumably needs to be formatted for NTSC/PAL region compatibility differences). Select the option to let the game reformat the memory card, go to the title screen, wait until the save symbol disappears, then close the game.
2) Run the character unlock verification file. It is over two hours long, so after you've verified that it starts correctly, take your time and do something else while it does its thing. It ends input at the start of a chain of unlock prompts - you can either go through those, wait for the save symbol to disappear, and then close the game, or just wait for the save symbol to disappear right after the end of input and close it then.
3) Make a backup of your MemoryCardA.EUR.raw and SRAM.raw files inside your Dolphin's User/GC folder. (Optional, but recommended so you don't need to run the verification file again in case something goes wrong)
4) Start up the game, select the 60Hz option when prompted, let any remaining prompts play out (if not done in step 2), wait for the save symbol to disappear at the main menu, then close the game.
5) You can now run the movie file.
I've noticed that sometimes the movie desyncs at the start and fails to select random characters during the initial setup (instead it selects Dr. Mario repeatedly) - this seems to be related to the 60Hz option prompt, I'm not sure what exactly causes it. In this case, run step 4 again, then retry. If something else was saved in game, that might also cause potential sync issues - in this case, replace the memory card files with the backups from step 3.
I've made an unedited temporary encode of this run (unlisted on YouTube):

Indeed, that's the point I wanted to make - both movies are rated by small groups of people with very little overlap, highlighting the issue with the small sample sizes that ratings for movies like this give.

I don't actually disagree with the sentiment, but I would note that with two movies that are identical bar a one-frame improvement, and yet having almost two full points of entertainment rating difference between them, I don't think entertainment rating can be considered a very reliable indicator here. (Same goes for the other movie, which has similarly skewed ratings compared to its predecessor)

Very nice run. The goal is quite clearly very superhuman, with a lot of luck manipulation being required to make it feasible at all. It abuses many facets of the game's AI, stages, and items in creative ways. And Luigi is a funny character to see zooming around with his wavedash and other movement options.

As always, a healthy reminder not to reuse passwords between different services. All it can take is a single instance where it gets compromised for hell to start.

Interestingly, changes in written policy regarding these sorts of affairs do affect what their users do in them. Places like 4chan don't have these sorts of rules, and everyone knows what sort of conduct goes on inside there (especially some of the more popular boards). Sometimes what you say might apply, often times it does not. People will do whatever they know they can get away with.
Another example, nice and topical, is the change in conduct on freenode itself after the outlined changes in the policy. This has in fact been linked a few times already.
Even if you can say it doesn't outright, it sure makes it look like you lean in that direction.
I admire your willingness to martyr yourself over this cause. However, it highlights another problem. You have no interest in turning this thread on-topic, even after multiple moderators asked you to. So I'm going to play my hand here. You are no longer allowed to post on this forum.
