https://twitter.com/MrCheeze_/status/1363199138691756035 Excellent explainer by MrCheeze - who discovered what when and how the ACE works technically. Link to video Video breakdown of how it works.

https://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/lco8qw/world_record_super_mario_bros_any_speedrun_in/ In related exciting news, SMB RTA is now less than a second off of the SMB RTA rules (no L+R) TAS, and the human sum of best is only 0.07 seconds slower (I think because perfect 8-4 is so extremely hard). Maybe we'll see a human maxed out SMB in our lifetime.

I generally think Catch 'Em All should be defined in such a way that it's entertaining, clever and whimsical, and that the obsoletion of the RBY Catch 'Em All TAS by one that just catches every pokemon in the same way was a mistake in the first place, to throw in my two cents.

I'm fine with a TAS that has boring parts to watch (I can just skim over them, and honestly I'll be primarily enjoying the TAS through the text description I imagine), but obviously it should be exciting to TAS or it'll never get made. So, whatever you're most enthusiastic to make is the best choice!

You might be able to find a faster/less enemy thinking win than what Stockfish can offer, since Stockfish plays as though its opponent is as good as it, while the poor Intellevision in reality is no match.

The problem is: "On Skill Level 7, the computer will not move at all unless the "Force Move" button is pressed. I could still select Skill Level 7 just for the fun of it but that would lose time to menuing and I did not want that." So the highest difficulty level would take an infinite amount of time, or you'd have to give it an arbitrary amount of thinking time (not vaultable). The fact that the ending checkmate isn't fools and isn't quite scholars even is interesting, too!

Throwing my hat in as well, I'd much rather see a good-as-we-know-how-to-make-it Nethack TAS with a possible improvements section than to never see a Nethack TAS. Whatever you choose, good luck!

So a discussion over on /r/speedrun got me thinking: https://www.reddit.com/r/speedrun/comments/l7n9qs/has_there_ever_been_a_case_where_a_human_has/ What TASes on the site are the least likely to be made faster, ever? Either because there's an exhaustive proof that it can't be any faster, or because there doesn't seem likely for any possible improvement to even be available. Dragster and Zool SMS are two obviously maxed out games due to being short and bot analyzed, but what else do we have strong beliefs about? For example, how likely do you think it is that [1715] NES Super Mario Bros. "warps" by HappyLee in 04:57.31 will ever be improved? And what's the longest run you think will never be beaten?

There's the Sunshine ACE but it required hacking a water drop into a specific Z co-ordinate. This one is more likely (already proven?) to be doable without hacks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_3iNRO3DYY

Hahaha. The moment TTYD has an ACE setup that's faster than any% it's all over. Can't wait!

Local green bird becomes homeless; goes on a trip to break reality (and youtube's encoder). A pleasant, surreal and silly short watch, yes vote.

Nice new level 45! Maybe in the future technology will improve to the point where you can submit this (such as by hosting it inside libTAS). I look forward to it!

Excellent demonstration of TAS gameplay. I love that it goes for medals systemically with no hesitation, goes absurdly fast and secret grades during the credits roll. (And the game even acknowledges it!) Seeing a TAS this maxed out is delightful. The score is remarkably similar to e (277128 vs 2.71828 - just move the 8 one to the left and turn it into a 7) but I assume this is just a happy coincidence.

http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#MovieMustBeComplete I think the specific ruling you're looking for is: 'Where applicable, the movie must reach an ending screen that positively signifies a game is finished successfully.' and 'It must be able to reach the credits or end screen without requiring any further interaction.' Not that you're likely to find ACE in SMB1 specifically, mind you...

A beautiful and chilling game in both visual and audio presentation, and an excellent display of TAS-precise platforming and routing, what a treat. yes vote.

You played the song of Credits Warp! A lot of the run is boring first cycle stuff, but that's the fault of MM and can't be circumvented even in a TAS (yet). The movement and payload were top notch, and it's great to see how far this game has come. I personally don't mind the spot of waiting (I skipped some cutscenes too) but taking a maximalist approach to 'entertaining without wasting time' is the norm and expectation around here.

Try finding combinations of keys you can simultaneously hold down in a program like notepad. (Some combinations will work and some won't; it depends on what model of keyboard you have.) Then they will work in Bizhawk too.

Link to video "A new speed exploit brought to you by Z2Rando creator Digshake and Arch Melvin Eunos... it's GEM EDGING! (tentative name) For years players have been dutifully bringing the six crystals back to each palace -- No longer with this simple trick! Just throw a crystal at a palace statue and disappear before the socket gets filled. Disregard Carrock, you don't need that robed douche's statue anymore! Try new Zelda II exploits today on your NES!"

Are you using a controller or a keyboard? If you're using a keyboard, does that combination of three buttons work in any OTHER program? (for example in notepad)

Could this be generalized to arbitrarily inject TASing tools into any unity game, or is it SSR-specific?

This is an interesting phenomenon I saw being discussed recently: the Spring Paradox, where suspending a mass in a system of springs then cutting one of the springs can actually cause the mass to RAISE because the spring constant has been reduced. Link to video I think this is the generalized form of the paradox to other phenomenon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Braess%27s_paradox But interesting to see it being demonstrated using pure physics!
