Maximum score being an interesting goal is mostly only true for arcade games (and even then only for the subset of arcade games that can't be counterstopped, that is, the limit for how big of a score the game can store is reached or even overflowed). I'm mostly only aware of shmups being interesting to play for max score, and it's extremely hard and requires a lot of esoteric knowledge to do this, so it's unsurprising to me that max score TASes aren't as thoroughly explored as max speed TASes. At least there's [2836] GC Ikaruga "2 players, maximum score" by keylie in 21:29.40 and [3138] Arcade Osman "maximum score, deathless" by xy2_ in 09:33.18.

I don't understand it either, but adding to my confidence that it could be a cosmic ray was that one time I was watching a streamer play Yoshi's Island in the first level (I think it was Trihex?) and they suddenly, with no explanation, teleported straight upwards in the air, which looked extremely like a single bit flip in the y co-ordinate.

That was surprisingly entertaining! I wonder what the estimated time to launch a rocket is?
I wouldn't be surprised if a TAS can win in <1 hour, since what makes real time speedruns so slow is having to carefully place all of your buildings, while a TAS will place one building per frame (60fps game), and spend the rest of its time placing assembly machines and crafting all of the ingredients that would normally be in your handcrafting queue (which is what takes up most of the rest of the wait time).

Thanks to a TAS playback mod, it's possible to make TASes of Factorio: Link to video

RTA doesn't use disc swap, so you probably shouldn't either. It's the same as ejecting FF9's disc to skip an fmv.

We will likely see a resurgence of socialist ideas in the next decade or two, when it dawns on everyone that the pool of jobs only humans can do is shrinking far faster than new jobs can be created. The stronger the focus on capitalism, the sooner humans get replaced at their lines of work. Where the situation will go from that point is anybody's guess, but mine is UBI, because at some point it will be cheaper for the economy to pay people to stay home and not drag the GDP down by inefficient labor. Whether this would be a sustainable model, I don't know.
This is the key point to me - Capitalism assumes that there are more jobs available to do than there are people to do them. Once automation and AI is in full swing, there will be LESS jobs available than they are people to do them. Either we make up nonsensical, unproductive jobs for people to do just so we can be able to pay them, or we move to something like universal basic income and actually reap the rewards of creating such an efficient and productive society that doesn't need everyone to work at all times.

Ok, here we go - [2551] SNES Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom "game end glitch" by pirohiko in 01:02.85 should be added under 'Obsolete Tricks', since it was obsoleted by an SRAM glitch run that now has 0 gameplay left.

I'd argue that because Super Mario 64 runs can be synched between emulators, and between emulator and console, via automatic lag compensation on polling, that it really doesn't matter what emulator is used; after all, all you're submitting is the input file. Come up with an emulator-agnostic format for it if you need to, to make it really clear that the run isn't attached to any given emulator. There are games where the emulators act differently from each other in terms of sync-stability, and therefore someone has to make a decision about which emulator each run is on, but IIRC that isn't the case here. The actual time should be determined via the most accurate available method of replaying the run (which in the case of Super Mario 64 is TASbot, because none of the existing emulators handle lag correctly); this goes for both the displayed time, and for determining whether a change is actually an improvement. Producing the encode is up to the encoders. (For what it's worth, I would not object at all to a rule that states that runs submitted on Mupen can be encoded on Bizhawk.)
This is my view too. Everyone gets what they want - encoders can use Bizhawk, TASers can use Mupen, record keepers can use console timing.

I guess that would be the same precedent as [2466] SNES EarthBound "save glitch" by pirohiko in 04:04.35 obsoleting [1946] SNES EarthBound "check glitch" by pirohiko, MUGG in 09:01.77, then. Previous request to add old run to Obsoletely Fabulous is re-instated, then.

I think for this to be accurate you would have to ALSO take pictures of your monitor of each emulator colour palette, so that it's not screenshots vs picture but picture vs picture.

Or autosave with a generic file name. I'd hate to lose something if I forgot to save it.

Similar to the other posters, I love this goal and have consumed a lot of videos of individual level TASes of the goal before, but think: 1) That speed should be a secondary goal 2) There should be a 'supercut' encode that fast forwards/fades through all times where a timer is being waited out, or something similarly repetitive.

Yes vote, well made and loved the first elevator playaround. It's too bad about the invincibility glitch, but I guess you can't NOT use it in an any% TAS.
