Any chance of a camera hack? Would that break the Autoscrolling segments? Don't camera hack during those stages?
I don't know how much a camera hack would add. Unlike a sonic game, you can't maneuver around off-screen - the main way of adjusting the character in this game (drawing lines) is only possible when Kirby is on camera.

Excellently done! As far as I'm concerned, keep those DOS TASes coming.

First, do you have RAM addresses for speed and position?

http://forums.cen64.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=198 Notes on development of the next CEN64 core This is extremely fascinating, and also extremely over my head! But if it succeeds, we will finally have the holy grail of 60 VI/s cycle accurate N64 emulation.

Until someone makes an N64 emulator that emulates lag correctly (CEN64 when??), I'd prefer to see a TAS of Star Fox 64 that goes for maximum score as a primary goal.

This was a hotly anticipated TAS from me even before you found the game breaking glitch - then it went from interesting to mindblowing. Great work! Your attention to detail in glitchhunting has paid off. Possible Speedy TAS 2016? Small details I appreciated: Popping blocks to the music at the start of Contrast Cave. + the musically timed playaround in Machine Mansion and Paletto Polis and Mad Mechanism and Drawcia Sorceress.

Normally we don't accept TASes that are just a game-specific replay format, since TASes should be something that can be done in real-time by a superhuman, and just having a replay format doesn't prove that the replay is really possible (for example, the replay format may not prevent invalid key combinations, allow you to input movements and turns faster than the game normally accepts and so on). A notable exception is that we do accept Doom replays to tasvideos. http://tasvideos.org/2879M.html I believe this is because they got proven to be identical to sending inputs to the game frame by frame (not 100% sure on this or where it got proven). So I think that if you can prove source engine replays are identical to what can be done in real-time they can be accepted. (They also need to satisfy some other criteria, like being able to sync on the judge's computer) (Incidentally, I noticed that http://tasvideos.org/Platforms.html doesn't list Doom. Should it?)

Link to video This intriguing video that came out today shows how an ACE payload can be set up in the RAM of a Gameboy Color using Pokemon Red, and then executed in Magi-Nation to warp to the credits. This is possible because the RAM of a Gameboy Color does not clear instantly when taking out the game.

Yes vote! I'm sure there's plenty to optimize in movement still, but that's to be expected in a 3D game's first TAS.

Same reason Symphony of the Night "Replay Mode" isn't any%. TASes that require pre-existing save data are usually treated differently. (There are exceptions, like if the pre-existing save data only exists to allow the hardest difficulty to be selected.)

About the route, I believe there must be other levels to get the 5 or 25 crystals faster than the lv4+Tiny route (particularly level 15, although I don't know if you can get an item from jumping on the giants when they are still alive), but so far no one (including me) has been able to reproduce the gate clip.
Is the gate clip on video?

Check out this site: http://datacrystal.romhacking.net Is an open wiki in which everyone can contribuite with info about ROM hacking for specifics games, and this includes editing tools, ROM addresses, RAM addresses, ROM hacking tutorials, etc. Everyone can contribute. If it's about TASing, we already have this forum and the main site for TASing info about specifics games, so I think there is no need for a new site after all.
Too bad it needs yet another account; From a simple glance on my list of passwords, I already have 30+ accounts on a variety of wikis/fansites/games/etc. This is a mess for me.
Two workarounds: 1) use a password manager for everything 2) only care about the strength of passwords that really matter (email accounts, anything that can be used to spend money, anything where you have administrator/moderator privileges). if some random forum password gets hacked then it's an annoyance rather than a threat to your wellbeing.

I agree that initializing the RAM other than the way it would be initialized on a console is like using a Game Genie code. This run is not console verifiable. Do we want to have "emulator-only" runs? And if you can do that, where does it end? Can you put arbitrary code in RAM that will cause the game to instantly jump to the victory screen?
It IS console verifiable - but possibly not on all NESes? Consider from the submission notes: "You can see evidence of these things in online videos and guides where there is a bit of confusion over what sound mode is the default." If true, then the startup state used for this TAS exists for at least some NESes. If it didn't, all guides/videos would agree on the default settings.

Apparently this is known but it's really cool: https://twitter.com/DNOpls/status/793962844731703296 'SNES Mortal Kombat 2, get to Kintaro and alternate between high and low punches, he apparently can't comprehend it and freaks the fuck out'

If you want a similar game to TAS I'm fairly sure Raptor: Call of the Shadows works fine, albeit slowly.
To suggest other shmups, there's also Tyrian, Major Stryker, Star Goose and Zone 66.

I don't understand enough of this stuff, can anyone explain the difference between this TAS and the published Cheetahmen II TAS by adelikat? Thanks.
My understanding is that the Cheetahmen II TAS has been proven to be able to happen on an unmodified NES (Just by resetting it enough times until it happens that way), whereas this TAS does not have similar proof, we just have to take it by faith that the RAM used for this TAS COULD maybe happen at startup.

Is it the opinion of people like True that all TASes on tasvideos.org should begin with all values of SRAM initialized to 0x00? Or are certain other patterns also acceptable for a submitted TAS?

I don't know anything about optimizing this game, but I've thought for a long time that tasvideos deserves to have some trauma center speedruns on it, and Second Opinion all XS sounds like a great way to start off! EDIT: Spikestuff reminded me to look on nicovideo for TASes of this game. I found a few. (One I didn't link - it's a single mission done suboptimally.) Make sure that you beat them all (when you get to those respective missions).
