You probably should be using more rerecords than you are. I had about 1,376 while at the same spot you have 249. It's a different and longer way of playing, but more optimal to play frame by frame and have used rerecords to find the first possible frame to jump, turn, swallow, etc.
The way I do things is a bit different. I don't re-record every time. I just use normal state loads when experimenting and practicing since it doesn't take as long to set up. Only when I'm sure I can do it perfectly do I rerecord. *edit* I feel stupid for not knowing that you could re-record just by state loading. From what I gathered, you had to reopen the rom every time to re-record. Stupid me.*end edit* And for floogal, it wont' be 2 player like you think. I'm just gonna take out Gooey when I find it necessary.

http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/343797531/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%20348%20%28U%29.smv Here's the link for my levels 1-4. I watched Comicalflop's run, and have replicated/copied some stuff for level 4. Although you won't see that in this video. It's in my second attempt (work in progress) I also made a discovery that I'm sure everyone already knew. I already knew gooey could get on an animal friend, but I did NOT know that the animal will warp with him! This will help me muchly. I can still take nago through level 4 and save time, if not IMPROVE time on that level. Seeing as how all the hours of the day that I can get anything productive done are up, I will have to put my plan into action tommorow. Playing with two players will be a bit tricky, but since I have my controller attachment, I can just use my standard configuration of keys on the computer for gooey. I'll have to remember to record with both controllers selected. I'm very excited about this and I now have the most enthusiasm I've ever had for this project.

I'm going for a one player run. new levels 1-2. If someone can teach me how to replay a movie from a certain spot to check it, that would be great. That way I wouldn't have to fast forward through the first two levels every time. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/416310397/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%20346%20%28U%29.smv *edit* Had some desync troubles in level 3 at the mini game. Have to do the rest of that level over again. (I need to make more back ups) Though I did something that I think I could have done differently to save some time, so I might just do that whole level again. Am sort of excited about stage 4. I get to use nago to go fast and show off at the same time. Also, that's where I would take my first damage to save time. (I may have to get a maximum tomato in the jump game at some point) There are some levels I'm absolutely dreading. I don't like the scrolling levels since I have to do fancy stuff to keep it entertaining, and there are some levels I always get clobbered at. The frame advance is rather difficult to use. I mainly use it to start running quickly, and for getting on the animal friends. I use landmarks when I need to make precise jumps. *EDIT 2* Have now gotten stages 1-3 done. Also half way through stage 4. Even I will admit now that the frame advance is very useful. I never would have been able to tackle this one part of a room without it. Though it seems that my video desyncs when I try to use frame advance and turbo controls at the same time. It desunk :D Durning the mini game when I used it, and desunk during the above mentioned part. I also love having back ups. They have saved my life several times. I'm actually starting to worry a bit about the pon and con fight. I think Parasol is a bit too far out of my way to get. I also dread the Acro fight (have you noticed that there is a lot I'm dreading?) I'll probably post my next video once I've completed grass land. *edit 3* By a complete and total one in a zillion chance, I discovered a neat trick which I expect to abuse throughout the whole run. This trick allows me to swallow an ability and go in a door at the same time, thus skipping the animation shown when getting an ability. While I myself am not 100% sure how it works, I can get it to work most of the time. Though I found this trick after I already could have used it once, so I'll have to do a bit of back tracking. I have also discovered that when you get hurt with an animal friend, you can jump off it while the damage animation is going. This ends up helping me in a couple places. I use the frame advance a lot in this level.

Well I don't think I'll use gooey since he gets in the way and takes up a health. In fact, I never used helpers in Kirby super star either (except for the nessesary parts in great cave offensive) Helpers don't help. they get killed or get you killed. And I've actually started over since I think I can fix a couple things up, and I'm learning about how to use the frame advance (though I'm finding it rather hard to use) Also, I think it would be highly unlikely to see all the abilities. In fact, you won't. Just use what I need. For bosses, I'm taking what's available. In the last level of Grass land is a parasol guy I can eat. I use that for whispy. Parasol is actually very powerful. I use Parasol at Acro and Pon and Con as well. For Ado and Dedede, I use needle since they're convenient to get. I need to go a little out of my way to get parasol for whispy/Pon and Con, but it's well worth it. My new level 1. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1139039960/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%20345%20%28U%29.smv It's too late in the day for me to properly function for this, so I'm stopping for today. Let me say that there is a large possibility I won't finish this, so don't yell at me too much if I say I quit. (which I haven't) Oh, and just so you know, Nago+stone does 200% when you hit the enemy with the actual rock. For the dust cloud, it's 100%

I actually knew about the falling to the right thing, but when I hit the ground it's nearly impossible to start running right away. I have to stand for a second. I guess it would have something to do with holding the right button while falling and trying to start it up again. Small thing. I think if I did it either way it would be roughly the same. As for the faster menu screens, that was an accedent, but I don't think it's worth going back for. On another note, Level 1 and 2 now! http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/502731190/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203%20%28U%29.smv I feel pretty good about this level. Flying with Chu Chu is definately faster than having kirby run and jump over each waddle dee. The part I had the most trouble with was the last section where you had to jump all through the Brunto Burts. After I got through that, I did a state save because the final jumps with avoiding the Nruffs were really hard and annoying. On the last jump I spin in the air for a second. This is so that last Nruff can get below the final platform before I get there, so I don't ram into him. Also, you'd be surprised how many times I had to reset the heart star room to get the jump perfect. :P might experiment on level three tonight. I'm sort of dreading using turbo coo since he's hard enough to control without turbo. I fear 4-4 Just so you know, Nago is probably one of the most useful animal friends. His triple jump gets reset when you land on an enemy while holding (B) so he's very good for staying airborne when there's lots of enemies. He's also nessecary for any level with lots of sand, so it's actually quite worth it to go to the effort to fetch him for 3-2 (though that's getting ahead of myself. baby steps here.) Something I'm worried about. Sometimes when I go to load my movie, it's a second less or a second more of it's original time. Will this cause desync?

Since nobody's doing anything on this run, I think I'll give it a shot. It would be my very first TAS ever. I figure, if nobody else will do this, I might as well. Though I don't know if I'll finish it. Currently I'm experimenting. Here is my 1-1 stage. If you see anything you might want to point out, please do so. You have to download SNES9x 1.51 to view this video. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/857256530/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%203%20%28U%29.smv And by the way, this is without using two players.

Well I had made a better KDL3 run, but the video screwed up in the 6th level. I'm reaaly mad. Well just so you know, it was 1 hour 57 minutes. I'm thinking that I'll try and learn how tool assited runs are made so I can make a good run. Is there a place I can learn how?

Oh well. I intended to re try this anyways since I bought a controller. I can handle Kirby waaaay better with the controller. I had a good run going, but I accedentally forgot to get R.O.B's head in 3-6, so I had to give up for the day. Will retry tomorrow. The only problem with my controller is that Parasol always seems to act up. I need parasol quite a few times though.

Crummy Kirby's Dream Land 3 97% attempt. Total time? A horrifying 2:10:14! Download Snes9x 1.51 to view this file due to the old version's trouble with the game's transparency. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1767461289/Kirby%27s%20Dream%20Land%2036%20%28U%29.smv I will first say that I do not normally suck this bad. The problems mainly occurred because of the horrible sensitivity of the keys. The Jump key was way too sensitive and always made me jump really high, and the arrow keys weren't able to grasp the concept of running without me completely stopping. So it's my keyboards fault (at least part of it) On the console with the control pad, I can beat level one perfectly. I might consider getting a control pad attachment for my computer. Biggest mistakes? Several rooms I got totally creamed in (usually because the keys weren't working) I died on the level were you need to take Rick to his friend. I hate that level. I accidentally smushed a flower in 2-1 and had to restart the level. Made a stupid mistake in 4-5 while sculpting the shape with the star blocks. Got clobbered by Pteran in every level they're in. I swear those things are the most easy to get hit by enemies ever made. For those who don't know, Pteran are the purple bat type birds that fly on a diagonal. I lost to that stupid Chef Kawasaki mini game. That is the most evil mini game ever. I beat it first try in my first attempt at the game, (which by the way, has never happened before) but not so lucky this time. I never win all of those last three mini games on the first try. Died at "O" had to commit suicide a few times. And just got beat up a lot. I also took a few breaks in between levels to get either a pop or a "fun sized" chocolate bar. (and bathroom breaks of course) I think if I could beat those mini games perfectly and not make any stupid mistakes, I could get under 2 hours. Since I'm home all the time now, I might keep trying this. Though I still got pretty lucky at Kawasaki for beating it second try, and at the fourth mini game, I only won because I made a lucky guess on the last one. (though I was pretty sure about it)

Is there like, an instruction booklet for those who know basically noting on how it works? I'm just wondering if it's possible to take two smc files and turn them into one.

I'll have to try a Kirby's dreamland 3 for this. Granted you'd have to download Snesx 1.51 to view it (the other version has transparancy problems for KDL3, so it's basically impossible to play on it) Keep in mind that I find Kirby's DreamLand 3 very difficult to play on the keyboard. The jump button is too sensitive, and arrow keys aren't sensitive enough. So it may be a crummy run. going for 97% (you'd need to do all the bonus stuff for 100%) Beware that I suck at the last three mini games, so I may have to redo those levels a couple times (at least up to the mini game)

Hey! I just bought this game recently. I had it before, but I got rid of it. I don't really know any tricks except the holding "Y" and forward at the count down to get a big speed boost. The other funny thing I know is that if you call yourself Sonic, it will say "name not cool enough" and will make you rename yourself. I thought that was funny. I don't know if this run as been abandoned, but I think it would be neat to watch.

I actually knew this one! It only really works well in the gourmet race though. doing that properly can save loads of time in the course 2 race. My best time for that individual course (on the actual cartridge) was 00:31:99 I've tried doing that outside of the race, and it doesn't really work as well.

mmbossman, did you use the modified SNES9X with reset recording? I supposed I'd better put it in my signature, as Nibelung did. And yes, Pekopon, it's probably the slowest DKC game in most regards (although vertical ascension while jumping up ropes is pretty fast).
Hey yeah! that's the thing I had to download to view the file. I myself didn't hear any music off track. (I think that's what desync is. Sounds that don't match where it should be in the video?)

I was able to watch it! I had some troubles though. I hadn't downloaded the proper thing, so I was watching all sorts of wierd stuff at the first banana bird. I looked around and found what I had to download I will say that I loved every second of it. I especially found collect 15 bananas to be hilarious. The one thing I noticed though is that the characters move way slower in this game compared to DKC and DKQ. Especially Enguard. Was this something to do with the movie? or did they just slow the characters down For DKDT? (may sound like a dumb question) :P

Yay! Someone is doing this! I hope you can make some more progress. I'd watch the WIP, but I have no clue how to work that kind of file.

Um... I'm not intending to sound rude or anything, but for link's awakening DX, Isn't this is most obvious choice? I also think the Buster Busts loose image is no good. Here is the current image Considering this is a colourful game, this image does not show it very well. I think something like this might be better. Though another thing is that the player abuses an error that basically makes him fly, (which I found annoying since that game is normally insanely hard) so an image showing that might be good. Like this. [/img]

I think that watching the endings to each game would kind of be a pain since the Metaknight one is fairly long, and if you got all of the treasures in The Great Cave Offensive, that would be extremely long. Plus it would make the file size bigger for stuff that people will probably skip anyways. I'm all for watching the milkyway wishes credits though, and (at least on my cartridge) you aren't able to skip them anyways unless you do the in game reset. I think that the arena would be a bit boring to watch if you'd just use T.A.C and Wheelie Rider to beat them up quickly, so I see no harm in just ending it at the end of the credits. Although if you really want to do it, you can. As for the problem with the lousy ending with the arena, I guess if you wanted to, (though it's a bit dumb) you could go to the sound test that appears after the arena, and play the Kirby Dance Victory theme. After that, end the video. I hope that someone carries out a 100% Kirby Super Star since I think that'd be neat. (Though I'd rather see a 97% run of Kirby's Dream Land 3)

I've been playing Kirby super star pretty much my whole life, so I've learned quite a lot that could help for a tas of Kss great cave offensive 100%. Granted, I don't have a great castle route planned out yet, but I'm working on it. I've started putting together a walkthrough for this idea. I have no plans to try and make the run myself since I don't have the patience or proper equipment to make one. I also can't make videos, so I've put together a screenshot walkthrough. I do not have it all done yet by far, since I'm still trying to figure out some more tricks. Here's what I've got so far *starting at room three since the first two are straight forward* First, get these two birds together and inhale them both to get mix. You want to get plasma ability. The mix cycle from the start is Suplex, sleep, crash, stone, and then plasma. You will notice a bomb block. This block is supposed to be used just to get out of where that treasure is. Getting that treasure the right way takes a long time. because you got plasma, you can shoot through the wall and hit it saving a ton of time. Remember that you you can hit it just by using the the second least charged attack. this also saves time due to less charging. In the next room, there is a bomb block out of reach. use the same attack as before to hit it. where kirby is standing is as far away as he can stand before being out of range. that path is now open, and it has a treasure down there. This block needs to be destroyed to get a treasure. By shooting plasma laser (second to full charge) from here, and lined up as shown in the image, you can hit the block without going all the way over there. *In case you think charging would take a long time, it probably won't with proper turbo buttons* the block will be gone so you can get this. go up to this area and shoot a plasma laser or plasma bomb (second to full or fullest charge) this will quickly destroy all the blocks to get to a treasure. You no longer have any use for plasma, so you want to get rid of the power. Rather than go through the long time wasting prosses of getting rid of your power via helper, it would be best to get hit and get rid of your power that way. Should be easy with proper luck manipulation now you want to get cutter. So eat this guy. a trick that I've never seen used in a speed run to date, is the swallowing in the air. when you have an enemy in your mouth, rather than waiting to hit the ground, you can press the "A" button to swallow in the air. This is important for the next trick. when copying a power, kirby sometimes demonstrates his attack, in this case, throwing a cutter blade. Although not known well, this cutter blade will actually count as an attack, and can damage enemies or break blocks. when you swallow in the air, be sure to be lined up with the block in the above picture. this way, when kirby shoots his blade, it will destroy the block without having to make a seperate jump and waste time. next go down here. This is where a great trick comes into play. Stand at the very left side of the wall, and while holding a turbo button for the "Y" button, use kirby's down cutter attack. this will make kirby go through the floor, rather than go all the way to the proper entrance, which will save a ton of time. That is all I have so far. Maybe this will motivate someone to work on a stratagy too. More as I finish it.[/img]

If anyone is interested in a 100% great cave offensive, I know several tricks to speed up tresure getting. I'm gonna try and find more trick before posting them, and I'll try to make some videos. I'll have to figure out how though.

Pros and cons for golden sun the lost age Pros: Nicer graphics (no effect to speed run) Cooler harder battles (entertainment value 1+) Hard mode with stronger monsters (Challenge 1+) Lots of skipable caves and dungeons (length 1+) Cons: Waaaaaay longer than the first golden sun (length 1-) Extra length of game results in more time wasting cut scenes (length 1-) Puzzles way easier than the first golden sun (challenge 1-) Longer attack sequences (length 1-) If either of the games would be done (which it looks unlikely) I think the first one would be a better choice
