So it turns out that last year a 70 Jiggy TAS has been made by hyperresonance and kaptainkohl. I happened to run into the YouTube video yesterday by chance, otherwise I would never have known about it. I have finished watching it and it was very good. Definitely recommended. It's just a shame it wasn't submitted to tasvideos though, but according to the video's description, hacks were used to make the bitclips a bit easier to perform; which would probably invalidate the run for tasvideos.

Dangit, misclicked and voted meh on accident. Can't seem to change it either. Anyway, amazing run! Wasn't expecting it to go this route. This probably wins my TAS of the year (for now, at least)!
Did you use any non-standard settings? The run desyncs for me when the golem appears. Advance bus-level timing is on. If I turn it off the run desyncs even earlier. I'm using the latest DeSmuME 0.9.9 with standard settings and the (U) (Legacy) version of Dawn of Sorrow.
I have theorized this route, but do not know how it would be done exactly, or it is even possible. Here is the idea.
1 - Enter the castle, and start by doing the beginning of an LBLJ. But instead of going through the 8 star doo, move so that you go through the key door to upstairs.
2 - You will now be in a black area, with the main lobby loaded. You can the go throught the door to enter back into the lobby.
3 - When this is done, you will still be in a black area, but I belive that the upstairs will be loaded. This is the theory section
4-From here, use some method of going through the door. Be it clipping or some obscure glitch, go for it. From there, just play it like you would any other 0 star run. BLJ to BITS.
Please keep in mind that I am not that knowledgeable, but I do know a few things about the game. I would really appriciate any comments or opinions.
IIRC the area loads upon Mario opening the door. Since the door cannot be opened without the key it is impossible to enter the upstairs area this way.
Umm... we already have a 100% Mega Man X run that's about 15 minutes faster than this.
The goal is mathematical perfection in terms of how fast you finish the game.
And that's not even the fastest one one the site! That one is a full 41 seconds faster.
How would people feel about turning off SFX in a Crash 3 Any% (No Major Skips) TAS?
Advantages: Skip 50 seconds of cut scenes throughout the run. Also, you can hear the awesome music better.
Disadvantages: No SFX (no sounds for spin, jump, slide, etc.)
Note: Music would be left on because it doesn't save time to turn off.
I'd rather have the SFX on, honestly. Feels so weird seeing gameplay with no sound effects. The cutscenes are short, far enough between and pretty funny (if I do say so myself), so I'd say keep 'em on.
I got an idea. How about you collect loving posts from people on the site, then compile them together in an image?
For example, you could use a big picture of a corkboard, place it in photoshop and put people's thoughts as notes on it, amidst Rachel's work and life.
Then, you can present that to Rachel's parents. Maybe they'd like it.
Just the first hardcore challenge? That would seem a bit arbitrary to me.
Maybe my sentences were confusing. Level 2 through End would be with hardcore challenges. When you finish off the last level (tour), you unlock the secret bike which makes the first level's hardcore challenges a lot easier.
I will also check out Maximum Remix since the last few levels are pretty bogus. You go from doing lots of fun challenges to having to do competitions; and I don't know if its like Tony Hawk where you can end the run in like 5 secs to get a good score against computers.
In Maximum Remix at least the game follows a very Tony Hawk-esque progression. You start by doing missions in Dave Mirra's hometown (four missions total, just like in regular DMFB). There are three levels total you got to beat, then you move on to Greenville, which is where regular DMFB starts. After three levels you do the first challenge where you must reach at least second place (first place awards a better bike). Then three more levels and a challenge and so on till the end of the game.
In Maximum Remix there are, just like in DMFB 3 sets of 4 challenges each: Amateur, Pro and Hardcore. You just have to beat the Amateur challenges in hometown to unlock the next level, starting from Greenville it changes to having to beat both Amateur and Pro. No matter the bike, all Amateur and Pro challenges should be completeable, but the hardcore challenges may be either impossible or impossibly difficult. I do not know if it is possible to keep enough speed for the 200ft sprocket slide at the end of Greenville - Vail Trails or if you can keep the balance up, even with TASing.
The secret bike you unlock after completing the last challenge in first place also gives the player perfect balance control, so you can easily grind several hundred feet or keep a stall going forever. Not really useful for a TAS, I'd say.
At the end of Maximum Remix, once all hardcore challenges are completed you unlock a challenge level in hometown. I do not know if this rewards anything (considering I've never beaten it myself ;p).
My suggestion is to go with Maximum Remix, there's more levels until the challenge at the end of Greenville comes up and the wallride may be useful for some quick point collecting during stages. I also suggest beating the challenges in first place and get the better bikes until you get the bike before the secret one. Then go back and beat all the hardcore challenges.
Before you continue, is there a reason you are playing the normal version instead of the Maximum Remix one? It contains more levels and new tricks (at least the wallride). Depends if people want to see more levels, of course.
Has it even been confirmed you can beat the game like this? I can imagine some of the Speed Booster segments are impossible with the game turned on its side.
Yeah it does. The Venom chase sequence in particular can get majorly screwed up if you're too fast.
Do we know what causes it? Why are all versions (at least when emulated plus the PC version) always desynced?
Also, some time ago I attempted to play the game on ePSXe and I couldn't get past a section in the sewers. A part where the water raises and lowers had it raise too fast, making it impossible to pass. It's possible it might screw up here too.
Does the game still desync in weird ways? It was always fine when I was a kid (I played the PC version) but each version appears to screw up in some ways (like Spider-Man dying if you let the cutscene play where he stands on the crate at the end of the police chase, Rhino hitting Spidey when Spidey is supposed to safely jump over him, Spider-Man jumping into a wall during the Venom chase).
I wonder if the game will ever desync in a way you can't recover from.
If your intention is to buy another Apple product then your question is a moot point. Then there'd really be one choice, two if you're a little more picky about your wallet. But you wouldn't need to ask a question if that is the case.
Also, if you want something more efficient than what you got right now, you can buy almost any computer and they'll run it better. What you're looking for in a computer is entirely based on how much money you want to spend.
If you want a more direct answer: Just focus on the CPU first, GPU second, the rest doesn't matter.
Does that answer you question?
Depending on how long it takes to make the whole thing, do you think this would be a good choice for SGDQ/AGDQ? Make the whole game lightining fast, then let someone play it all the way through?
I had never actually heard of http://Patreon.com - thanks for the suggestion! I'll look into it and see if it's something that I would qualify for.
I've seen people using it for just about every purpose, so I think you'll qualify for it.

Oh, you probably wouldn't buy an entire Bitcoin - with BitPay or Coinbase or the like you'd link it to a bank account just like you would with PayPal and then fund your account with whatever amount you wanted to (at a 1% or less fee depending on ywhat wallet provider you go with). When you make purchases with Bitcoin most vendors offer discounts (http://gyft.com offers a 3% cash back when paying with Bitcoin), so you actually end up better off than paying cash, but I digress. So yeah, if you definitely don't have to go all in and own an entire Bitcoin, they are divisible to the 8th decimal point for just this kind of thing. :)
I'm more comfortable and well-versed with the standard types of currency, so I would want to know what I am getting into when I would end up buying some bitcoins. It's such a grey area that I don't know how it works at all.

Oh, I'd never use any funds I received as donations for anything other than strictly GDQ related activities, with the minor exception of perhaps eating out at a restaurant that is nearby something I'd go see (this happened at AGDQ where micro500 went with us to the Smithsonian and we ate at Pi restaurant in DC). You can see my transparency report from AGDQ 2015 to get a feel for what that looked like. Thanks for your comments!
Oh, I wasn't suggesting you were going to use the money for those purposes. I just meant that extra funding could maybe mean even bigger things at SGDQ or AGDQ. I know making that TASblock happen costs money too and perhaps you might be able to use new bots or something like that for something exciting.
Considering that this is likely a recurring event, wouldn't it be easier to just make a Patreon account? Even if you don't meet the requirements per month, over the course of half a year you'd be likely to get enough funding to go to AGDQ and SGDQ every year.
I mean, it seems easier than getting bitcoints to pay with too. I don't have a wallet and I'm honestly not planning to get one. Plus, it takes over 220 dollars to get just one bitcoin now, I'd rather pay a dollar or 5 per month over the course of 4 years with that money.
And who knows what other fun stuff you can do at SGDQ with the extra money?
Chapter 6 is completed, currently working on the intermission. Encode will be cut off at the beginning of the intermission because of a crazy new strat that I want to showcase when the final run is released. The Garnet Star was grabbed in 3:01:36.367. It's about 35 minutes and 10 seconds ahead of my previous TAS and about 33 minutes and 52 seconds ahead of the WR at this points. New strats will save about a minute on top of that quickly. Encode later today hopefully.
Are you going to make a commentary of that encode? I missed it during the last one. Also, I'm assuming something special is going on with Chapter 5 because you haven't posted anything about that.
Anyway, thank you for the hard work as always.
You must not be familiar with how a Flurrie superslide works. Goombella Buffering doesn't work because the loading zone has a solid wall around it on all sides, so I can't go out of bounds.
Yes, I am very unfamiliar with it. How you can TAS this game is beyond me. Still, it's a shame it costs so much time going back and forth. Let's hope a new glitch is found soon!
Aw man, I'd hoped that there was some way to get the 'P' in the Creepy Steeple the first time you are there, so that you wouldn't have to go back and forth so much. No way of getting there with Goombella Buffering or Flurrie SuperSliding?
