Mothrayas and I had a long chat on IRC about this, and we both came to the conclusion that there are (for now) 10 languages that should have translations here: * Chinese * Finnish * French * German * Italian * Japanese * Portuguese * Russian * Spanish * Swedish The reason we decided this is because these languages tend to have a lot of speakers, a lot of people in the community itself who speak said languages, and have a lot of speakers who would be more likely than other languages to be involved in gaming specifically. Personally, I would not be opposed to having more languages, and if anyone has any translations available for languages other than the ten listed, feel free to contact me and I'll save them. I will shortly make topics for each of the 10 languages in their proper language forums. I will then make at least one topic concerning languages outside those 10, in case they will ever be applied.

I've always had a major interest in language and linguistics, which in fact sometimes forms into an obsession. Now that I have become an editor, and have really started to sift through pages on the TASVideos site, I'm starting to notice more than ever that many pages do have a version of that page in another language (usually Russian, for some reason); however, despite that, there are so few languages represented. This I see as something that needs to be seriously looked at. The reason? Well, as http://tasvideos.org/WelcomeToTASVideos.html says, there are over 100,000 unique visitors to this site every month, which adds up to over a million (presumably) every year. A lot of people who will come to this site will prefer to read site pages in another language (probably because English is not their native language). Wikipedia and Wiktionary are two sites other than TASVideos in which I've been long-term actively involved. There are literally hundreds of language-versions of Wikipedia (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikipedias for all of them) and a similarly large amount of language versions of Wiktionary. Personally, in all the time I've been seeing TASers, etc., I've come across TASers that I knew spoke any of the following languages natively: Dansk (Danish) Deutsch (German) Ελληνικά (Greek) English (obviously) Español (Spanish) Français (French) 한국어 (Korean) Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) Italiano (Italian) Nederlands (Dutch) 日本語 (Japanese) Polski (Polish) Português (Portuguese) Русский (Russian) Suomi (Finnish) Svenska (Swedish) Tagalog (main language of the Philippines) Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese) Türkçe (Turkish) Українська (Ukrainian) 中文 (Chinese) And it's not over. I don't know why; I guess it's just my thing. Additionally, some cool, but not really useful I suppose, ones would be: Esperanto Latina (Latin) Anyway, there are some that I haven't mentioned, but you get the idea. A lot of people speaking a lot of different languages come here every month. Now, I don't claim to specialize in foreign languages, so I can't do the translations alone. There are quite a few languages besides English that I can speak enough to have casual conversations and can do a few other things with them, but I don't know any of said languages well enough to translate complete documents while knowing I will not make translation errors and grammatical mistakes. There are a lot of resources I have at my disposal for translation: Wiktionary has https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Translation_requests , where you can literally ask for a passage to be translated and someone who is knowledgable will come and translate it (though this doesn't ALWAYS work). Or, as I've mentioned above, this community is linguistically diverse; I can ask someone who speaks a certain language and knows the context of TASing to translate some of the pages here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Introduction Wikipedia gives 98 languages for their site introduction, while http://tasvideos.org/WelcomeToTASVideos.html we only give two for ours (and by the way, this is the most amount of languages for any given page I've seen on the site thus far). Now I'm not saying we absolutely have to provide a thousand languages for every page, but I just feel like there should be more attention paid towards page translation. So I'm asking for your help. Any users who speak any foreign languages and feel comfortable translating long passages without error into your language(s), please help me to translate several important pages on the site, including all the introductory and guidelines/rules pages. Also, during this movement I may start getting translations and may add a few pages at a time, just to give you a heads up (but I will let someone know every time beforehand if I do). By doing all of this, we will help our content to be better understood by all audiences. Thank you in advance.

I don't see any other submissions from this user, so I'll assume it's their first. To give you some background, I've been dealing with this particular game, in absence of the rest of the DKC GBA trilogy, for over 10 years. I'm in the process of making two TASes of it: one any% with the goal of the simple beating of K. Rool the first time, and 103%, the (without the TUFFER code) completion of everything. There are some major setbacks to this run. First, I'll go over the rerecord count. I notice the rerecord count is extremely low for the amount of time the run lasts. Usually, when I TAS a game, I make about 7,000 rerecords every ten minutes. You made approximately 18,000 rerecords in this 2 hour 20 minute run. For me, 18,000 rerecords would be about 24 minutes of gameplay by that math. Especially for a game as complex as this one, the amount of rerecords should be very highly considered. The amount of routing in this game that I alone have to do for 103% is massive still, so really I'd probably say double my usual rerecord count, and expect around 14,000 rerecords per ten minutes, so your run would really equate to about 12 minutes of gameplay in that sense. Secondly, the version. Usually, if a USA/Japan version of a game exists, one of either of those two versions are preferred over the European, since the European versions of games usually have some major flaws. There are some rare exceptions I suppose where the European version of a game may be faster by chance, so it's a case-by-case basis. In this case, the European version of Donkey Kong Country 3 for the GBA is far slower than the USA version. In the USA version, at the time any flagpole is touched, you can skip the flagpole animation by pressing Start+Select (if it's a first-time-in-a-level situation, this only works when you touch the flagpole). In the European version, this is not the case; that trick simply cannot be done. It is also absent of the teamthrow door glitch, and, according to Avanor_, the newly discovered time-stop glitch is impossible in the European version as well. So the obvious optimality is in the "USA, Australia" version. Third, the optimality. I'd say this is the worst problem with this TAS, and evidence of the suboptimality of the TAS is shown in the last two points I made about rerecord count and version as well. While some parts of this run were entertaining, and many of the bonuses were very well-done in comparison, I saw not just a few, but several parts of the run that were pretty obviously (to me) suboptimal. Even without taking into account the many skips that weren't done in many parts of this run that would've saved massive amounts of time, there were portions of the run where you were just wasting a little time, presumably without knowing it. For instance, yes, you did do a lot of speed boosts with Dixie which did save a lot of time, but did you know that every time you press B with Dixie and she smacks her hair, it is significantly slower than regular running? You did this at the beginning of a lot of levels and also during a lot of levels for no real reason, perhaps without knowing of the consequences of this. I could name a lot more specific mistakes, but that was one that really jumped out to me. The run clearly was not tested very well for optimality. I even saw that at the very beginning of the run, SpectrumDisaster did the game's built-in restart sequence by mistake without realizing it, while mashing random buttons to get past the "Press any button to continue" splash screen. (The restart sequence is done by pressing A+B+Start+Select) This obviously wasted quite a bit of time, and I feel like someone trying to optimize a TAS really should have been able to realize that they did that. Speaking of button-mashing: I noticed that instead of waiting for just the right frame to press buttons (such as in text-skipping, etc.) you used the autofire sequence. If the autofire sequence hits at the wrong times, it can waste a couple frames every time you do it, which is very clearly suboptimal. Besides even all the things I just mentioned, if you know the game, (or maybe even if you don't), you'll see that the general manner of play is often sloppy or otherwise much less optimal than it should be. The routing needs a lot more work than what was put in as well. Fourth, the category. The category is "105%". A lot of people have questioned what this actually means. So, we have the two main categories of the game: any% and 103% as mentioned by me above. But 105% is slightly different from 103% because 105% is based off of an in-game cheat code ("TUFFER") that makes the game "harder", removing DK barrels and save barrels, and also gives you an extra 2% when absolutely everything is completed, rather than just 103%. In the speedrunning community, this has been considered to be a separate category from 103%, and 105% is not considered "more 100%ish" than 103% in any sort of way, and is thus not a replacement of 103% runs. 103% is the true "100%" category, so I'd say that 105% is like a "side-category". The fact that one of these "side-categories" was submitted before any main categories were ever submitted is definitely troubling, since there's nothing main here to compare it to. A separate problem with this side-category is that it relies on a cheat code to be performed at all. I'm not even sure that that is allowed here on TASVideos at all, though it isn't really considered cheating in this case. Now I will say that you did make a good record with this run, beating the world record of this category by over 30 minutes, and also beating my 103% world record by 19 minutes (though that is considered a different category). In a general sense, I'd say that you did a decent job with this in comparison to regular speedruns (though there is a ton of room for improvement even in that sense). In conclusion, I voted no in terms of entertainment value, and I highly suggest to the judges not to accept this run. Nothing personal, but just I wouldn't if I was judging it. First, it uses a bad version of the game. Second, the rerecord count does not show signs that the user spent a significant enough amount of time testing the game and producing this movie. Third, the run is clearly suboptimal and sloppy for a TAS. Fourth, the category is questionable. Finally, a note to the TASer. I know my statements are harsh, and others after me might even be more harsh, but don't take it personally. I'm not saying that you as a person or your ability to do work are any less valuable. You are apparently a beginner. I was there once too. The thing is that the TASVideos community puts a lot of value on perfection, and if a TAS submitted here is perceived as less good than it could be in any way, especially when it's more obvious like in this case, reception is often harsh in this manner. I encourage you, if you want to continue your experience with tool-assisted speedrunning, to take more time to learn about TASing and take an exceptional amount of time learning about your games before making TASes of them and submitting them. Learn all about them. Make sure that everything you do couldn't be any faster; any more entertaining. Make absolutely sure that in any particular instance of the run, there isn't a part where you may have screwed up in some way, or did something even slightly slower than it could be. Really check. REALLY dig into the game, as if you were trying to find a small marble inside the dirt in an extremely wide grass field, and as if your life depended on finding it. This kind of precision is what makes great TASes, which are the kinds of TASes we want here.

Huge thanks to Avanor_ for finding all these new strats and glitches. I mean, whoa, what a LOT of glitches there are to be manipulated in this game. People describe TASing as "breaking the game" a lot of time; this game will quite literally be broken. Routing and other testing is underway. I'll come out with a WIP or a test TAS of some sort soon. Stay tuned. I have confidence that these runs could at least make moons, if not stars.

If he was moving like with that speedbooster item all the time, it'd be a clear moon. But for the entire run he always resets to the insanely slow pace once he leaves the room, and it constantly kills all the enjoyment. I had to vote Meh. Other voters mostly agree. Does anyone think this game is entertaining enough for moons?
So, since there are so many of them, please do me a huge favor and say something about the skips and glitches in your little note
We don't require the viewer to know the game. It happens all the time that those who know the game are greatly entertained by what happens in a TAS, and the unfamiliar people just don't get it. For example, I don't understand what's entertaining in RPGs or strategies, at all. But other people greatly enjoy them. The solution sometimes is the game's popularity. Popular games have higher chances to get better votes, because people know what's going on and enjoy that. This game was only released in Spain, so people barely know it. That means the majotity of its potential viewers have never heard of it. Hence, not knowing the internals, they won't be able to fully enjoy all the skips you've done. That leads to the feedback that's average or below average. We have to take feedback into account when we're considering a run for Moons, since the primary goal of the tier is to entertain. So it has to be subjective. And the global goal of the tiers is to promote. We usually don't promote what the majority of the viewers can't enjoy. Bottom line: while I find this game really nice, the normal running speed totally kills all the value it would have without it. I'm sad about it, no idea why they decided to slow him down that much. Certainly not the limitations, as there's a speedbooster, that works perfectly. Just a stupid decision of the developers.
Thank you, but see I don't like using speed/entertainment tradeoffs very much, personally. I would like to view it as an ending trick that doesn't affect speed at all. What if, instead of skipping the credits screen, we only skip the screen before it and let the last frame be the frame to skip the screen before credits? That way, people can see the credits, and I don't have to consider the ending glitch a S/ET? Is this compromise acceptable?

Okay, screw all the other games I was doing. Now I'm focusing all my attention on GBA DKC3 as now I have some competition, which I never thought in a million years would actually happen with this game. I have a few secret tricks up my sleeve with the game. Hopefully, Avanor_ will join me to co-TAS the game; otherwise, I'd have to just make my runs obsolete his of the game. I'd rather co-TAS it though.

The Mañanito animation glitch refers to the point at the end of the movie where I grab the Mañanito during the ending animation where the character does a victory jump, which I don't believe was intended to happen, so the Mañanito collection animation and the victory animation intertwine. I still want this to be in the movie, so can we just consider my ending best for the sake of the run please, or do I really have to go back and change that? (the end of the last A press to see The Morning Adventure's start screen again) Whether or some version of the same thing is at the beginning of the game too, the fact that it's different at the ending warrants it to be seen at the ending IMO, especially if there's such a good reason for it as I mentioned with the Mañanito animation glitch.

Just to let you guys know, I may revisit this game, but "100%" doesn't exist and is a bad idea. That category "Billy" referred to, if it could even be considered such, would be more along the lines of "all items", which, for this game, would be hell. I feel like sub 10 is possible, and there are some cool tricks in the levels that can be shown off. It might not be the best game ever, but it is a classic and is fairly well-known among "bad games" because it was a well-marketed Disney 1990 NES game. I already saw MESHUGGAH uploaded a WIP a few years back, so I may just add on to that. By today's standards, I believe the run would be admissible for vault, since it has 2 mini-games that are platformer which do allow for some neat tricks. If anyone would like to help with a future TAS of this game, please let me know. I'll let you know if I start any WIPs myself. Ta ta.

I haven't seen much talk here about history so I thought I'd bring it up in this topic. Over the past few years I've been really interested in the study of history. Really, I shouldn't say I'm "interested in history" because "history" is such a broad term that means literally everything that ever happened in humanity's past, which is quite a lot of stuff. Other people who tell me they're interested in the study of history seem to usually be interested in specific aspects of it. I've seen a lot of people who like military history, or the history of weapons. Some tend to like political aspects of history a lot (in fact, political and military history are often the things that get the most focus). Personally, I like the cultural aspects of history. In other words, when I look at a time period and study it, I ask myself "what would it be like if I suddenly appeared in this time period X in location X and had to live the life of the general population? What would my daily tasks be, and how would my life be significantly different than in the 2010s US? Who would I meet, and how would I have to speak for people to understand me?" Things like that. By the way, some historical study favorites are: America in the late 1700s, 1890s-1920s, 1950s-60s, 1980s-90s, the Vikings, and the Roman Empire in the BCs. I feel like learning about history is a fun and interesting hobby to have. Does anyone else happen to share this passion?

As far as jumping, no. Jumping and running have the same exact speed in any direction. You do not lose any frames from jumping alone, as with some other games I'm working with. If there was such a problem with jumping, I would mention it in the author's comments. Sabrina the Teenage Witch: Potion Commotion and Santa Claus Saves the Earth are examples of games where jumping while running is slightly slower than just running, but The Morning Adventure is not. It might've looked slower because admittedly the YouTube encode is total shit, and I can't wait until it gets an HD encode from a TASVideos encoder. As for the roll-looking things, they're like the coins in many 2-D Mario games, except they're like everywhere in the levels. They don't do anything for you as far as speed at all, but if they're in your way anyway they don't slow you down either, so I just collected extra ones sometimes because I could. Honestly, it's impossible not to collect those taco things, at least not without losing a lot of time in the process. If collecting extras made the run lose more entertainment value for you, I'm sorry, but there just wasn't much more for-kicks stuff to do in the run, so I sometimes just chose to collect, collect, collect. They're useful in casual gameplay because each time you collect 100 you get an extra life. I got 5 lives in this run, meaning I did that twice.

I've completely missed this. I tried to go to sm64.org, and it was literally "for sale" (shut down). Anybody have a story? What happened here? Money problems? Did SM64(.org) seriously die, circa 2017? I'm sort of disappointed but moreso sad.

I feel if we want a 120 star for this game it has to actually be a 242 star, since that's true 100%. Also, for any%, it should be done with Mario, since that's the result of a true game start. That's just my personal opinion. It probably won't sway the opinions of the rest of the site, though.

Jlun2, I was browsing through movies and found this, and I have to say what a fantastic run I see in front of me! I really, really liked this game; the spooky and violent feel, the slow and dark graphics, the routing, the OoB glitches, everything was awesome! Great job on the run! You always impress me.
