I have a good feeling that the Speed TAS Competition will be coming back for AGDQ, which should see the same results as the SGDQ competition (lots of newcomers and participation, naturally). There will also be a more low-key, site-specific SpeedTAS coming soon, I've just been rather busy as of late and haven't completely finished my part of it. I should probably do that, shouldn't I? Yeah. Yeah, maybe.

Looks pretty good to me! How does the charge shot compare with rapidfire shooting, when charge time isn't an issue? I noticed you used a charge shot on the spider the first time it swooped down, but not the second time.
The first time it swoops down is actually fixed at the far right, allowing me to use the charge shot early and switch immediately to rapid firing. The second time it swoops down it's actually following me much more closely. I roll at that specific time so I can turn around and start rapid firing right afterward without it grabbing me. I'll see what else I can do with that battle, as it's probably the weakest part of the WIP in terms of strategy. At the very least, I'd like to get it to a point where I don't have to jump on the second cycle to finish it off. The area boss also needs some work: It's a quick fight but I think I can do it quicker still.

https://youtu.be/nlhkltotywY Hey, look what I'm returning to. Second pass at the first area, though I'm going to give it a third pass before I call it final. EDIT: Unembedding videos as I post new ones.

First off, welcome to the community! Second off, I used to love this game and I'm super excited to see what you'll be doing with it... Third off, on a bit of a down note, I would recommend changing the language back to English if it's not too much trouble. It's not a strict requirement by any means, but it would prevent some fuss later on down the road if you choose to submit this. Y'know, back several years ago when I was still playing this, I did have an interest in speedrunning it... Maybe I'll dust off my old copy and see what I can do to help.

Watching the two runs back to back (thank heavens they're short) isn't convincing me that they both deserve a spot on the site, as they're almost literally the exact same game with different music/stage layouts. I'll pose a topic to the audience rather than to the author: Is this version of the game better, worse, or exactly the same as the SMS version? Is there enough different to publish both runs side-by-side? Should this run obsolete the SMS run (assuming it's up to the site's standards of optimization)?

Were you intending to use two streams, Spikestuff? If I'm not mistaken, the idea of the "dual encode" for the temp was mostly as a joke, and it wasn't intended to make an encode for both versions of the ROM.
I really like the idea of having both runs as separate video tracks. Technically, my original intent was to make an single-video encode that would switch between the US and JP versions between screen transitions/whenever censorship came up, but I realized I was missing one of my usual run trademarks: Being lazy and rushing the submission process because I finished up the run while extremely tired. So I opted to just put the two versions right next to each other to best illustrate the run syncing on both ROMs. It was intentional and yet unintentional, to say the least.

Isn't this category pointless? It's almost identical to the Sonic run but stages with SP Rings are less entertaining. Then there's a lot of added time due to the mini games (which add no entertainment value) and you stand still in them for about 60 seconds each. AND THERE'S 8 OF THEM. It's not like you unlock anything when you collect the emeralds so what's the point? People have already pointed out that the true ending requires collecting the emeralds then beating the game with all the characters so this isn't even a 100% run. It would be like having a SM64 TAS where you get 87 stars. It doesn't unlock anything and it's still not 100% but it's done anyways.
This is exactly how I feel about it as well. The category's in a weird gray area between any% and 100% where it's neither one nor the other, so entertainment plays a huge factor in whether or not it gets published, since it can't go to Vault... And of course, the biggest drawback to this TAS is the fact that the special stages are just plain boring to watch, not just because they're boring in general but because no effort was made to make them entertaining to watch... not that there'd be much you can do to make them entertaining in the first place, but making an effort can go a longer way than just standing still for minutes on end.

No need to be hostile. If you really have strict parental supervision like that, you might want to wait until that's over before dabbling in emulation.

Why is it PXM? Wasn't there a functional, converted BK2 that synced properly? You are aware that even if the final time of the BK2 is longer than the PXM, it has no bearing on the judgement of the movie, correct? We forgive longer times due to longer loading and more accurate emulation as long as there are actual improvements to the gameplay. It just seems like a huge waste of other peoples' time to throw away that BK2 in favor of something that's going to waste even more peoples' times when it comes to the publication process, especially when the BK2's longer time isn't even remotely a factor. EDIT: At the very least, are you okay with this file being converted to BK2 before/during submission? Once again, it would have no impact on judging at all. It would simply make the lives of the encoders/publishers a lot easier, with absolutely no drawbacks.

BizHawk is perfectly safe and always has been. Add the folder to your exceptions list. Better yet, don't use Norton at all and get something less intrusive/less likely to trigger and delete false positives.

EDIT: Nevermind. EDIT2: Added the below encode to the submission text. Also finished watching the run. Absolutely fantastic! I haven't been this surprised by a run out of the blue since Magician Lord. Definite Yes vote from me!

Either way, I'll get this done at some point, most likely when TAStudio is as stable as TAS Editor is in FCEUX.
Now that this has happened, I took a stab at Stage 6 and couldn't get the pattern to change again... However, I decided to just press on and try to see what I could do with the pattern I got and I ended up realizing how bad the boss fight on my test run was. A quick test (no effort on the stage, all effort into optimizing the boss fight) ended up saving over a second over the test run despite the worse stage pattern. ...To put it simply, expect this on the workbench within the week. Pretty stoked to finally finish this up after all this time. EDIT: Man, I'm finally on Stage 7 after all this time, with 103 more frames saved over my test run. Finally, we'll have 3/4 TASable Splatterhouse games on the site. Planning a semi-special encode for this.

I suppose that's fair. Just make sure to edit the submission and include Mukki as a co-author, since you used so much of his input.

Anyone else have something to say about this run? It's hovering in a bit of a gray area at the moment and I'd appreciate more votes/posts to swing it toward something more definitive.

Well, it obviously does differ from a human play. Such route plan wouldn't be possible without tools.
If I understand the run comments right, everything is 100% fixed. If that's the case (and someone correct me if it isn't), then a human player could, in theory, practice and perform the exact same "route" to get the exact same result. Due to the slow pace of the game (and the fact that it even slows down as you get farther in), an RTA might be able to completely match the TAS. But again, this is just theory/assumption on my part.

Something about all this rubs me the wrong way, and it's not just the co-authorship mistake. Did you try to improve any of Mukki's times at all, or did you just assume his input is completely optimal and copy it without trying to improve it?

Now if I can just figure out why I'm getting so much lag (been getting it even before using any lua scripts) I'll be pretty much set. As it is now though it's not worth playing, especially since PSXjin runs it smoothly. I'd rather have the functionality of BizHawk though, at least for TASing.
In-game lag or the emulator itself being slow? If it's in-game lag, then that's just emulator accuracy, since BizHawk blows PSXjin out of the water on that front. If it's the game running slower than 60fps, that's not a huge issue since you'll be TASing in frame advance anyway. The only thing it'd impact is watching back your progress. Either way, use BizHawk. PSXjin is being deprecated, anyway.

Watching both this run and the cancelled run back to back was proof enough that cancelling and resubmitting was the right thing to do. This run is quite a bit more entertaining due to how much faster the overall movement is, making it look much more like a TAS. Voting Yes this time around.

Looks like Lua scripting to me. If you're working in BizHawk and you know how to code in Lua, you can expand upon that with a little bit of work.

ANOTHER UPDATE: because of the news about deprecating old Dolphin runs, I'm forced to restart this big project on a newer Dolphin version... the problem about that is that no other version besides 4.0.2 and 4.0-146 works on my shitty ass PC, so I'm basically fucked. I can't afford a new PC, so don't even bring that up. My only other alternative is to continue on 4.0.2, but I don't know how that will turn out...
It's clear you've been working on the run long before the announcement. You'll get a continuance. Just keep goin', yo.
