Thank you.
That's a common question. I consider TAS now and then, but just playing on console has gone so well for me that I haven't found a reason to switch, not yet anyway.
I agree with you. Just when you think a run is maxed out, someone finds a huge new time saver and the run is obsoleted again.
Great progress Kyman!
100 coins plus red coins on the floating isle look unbelievable! Other WF stars all appear to be maxed and very entertaining as well ;-)
While I'm at it:
A friend of mine wondered if it was possible to use the first part of the hyperspeed flying glitch to get the star "Mario Wings to the Sky" capless, cannonless.
What I mean is, do the BLJs and then the C^ and hyperspeed triple jump part, but don't use the wing cap. And try to find a way to get up to the rings (if it's possible to jump that high).
This may not be possible though. I'm just asking to see if anyone's interested in trying again.
Hey, exactly what buttons are you pressing and all to do this new hyperspeed flying glitch thing?
Would someone be kind enough to tell me or send me a .m64 or something? I'd like to try for a weaker version of it on console.
Myles
Good to see so much progress.
Great job with LR xenos :-)
Weatherton: I'd like to watch your efforts for all the courses you've worked with.
Maybe I'll test Grand Prix and VS. in the near future to see if I find anything.
Myles
I do have an idea for that coin, but it would be very difficult and time consuming without TAS.
But afterall, this is the place to have a TAS player test it for me, so I'll post it here.
Get into the hidden Curtis Bright room using either the BLJ or Curtis' swim method. Then when you're in the Bright room, line Mario up with the gap in the wall and attempt to do a triple jump dive through the gap toward the coin, get the coin, and turn right into the water at the beginning of the level after getting the coin.
I know, there's not much room in there, but I imagine a TAS player could manage the triple jump just barely. After initiating the triple jump, the other stuff I mentioned should be pretty easy. Mario will have more than enough height and distance to get the coin, and should be able to turn right fast enough to avoid falling to death.
If anyone here wants to test it, go right ahead... and post the results.
Myles
That's really cool how Mario accelerates almost endlessly from wall kicks.
I want to see Mario leave the wall kick area and travel from one end of a level to the other at this speed though. Seems like all you need is two close walls that connect to a ceiling, am I right?
How about this:
Enter Tiny-Huge Island with tiny Mario and big Island. Go to the stone square that creates black balls. Do a ton of wall kicks inside the square and make sure Mario leaves the square facing the water. Then let's see how many frames it takes for Mario to hit the invisible wall on the other side of the water. Sound good?

Thanks for the link xenos! I always liked this game, and now I like it even more with the jetpack glitch ;-)
Who knows, maybe I'll work on my times some in the near future.
Myles
I'm glad to see you guys TASing this game :-)
I'm the guy who has 3:24 for Echo. Also I have 3:14 for Asteroid Field:

The jetpack is awesome! How exactly is it executed though? I mean how does dash turn sideways and fly through the wall like that?

This topic needs to be reactivated, dag nabbit.
Notice the triple jump up the TTM slope:

Much faster than the backwards jump kick thing TAS players have been using.
Myles
Actually in the CCCless TAS Mario jump-dives up the side of that slope, which is a bit faster. =P
Agree with you 100% that this topic could be a little more lively though.
Ah, well good thinking then. I guess the video I posted was just a random attempt to revive this topic lol.

Emphatic yes vote.
Incredible run! 5:47 was great already, and still you found a way to save 4+ seconds! Unbelievable!
The new back-to-wall BLJ into BitDW was genius. Then, the ending of the BLJ during BitDW was much faster.
Great job saving a few frames on the BLJ down to first key door! Already looked great in the old run.
BLJ into BitFS appeared to be maxed, and BitFS itself was a solid improvement on the old run!
Then everything else to the end of the run was definitely maxed IMO.
Best SM64 TAS I've ever seen by far,
Myles
As Filimonas said, the run appears to be optimized so far. Great job RobZ :-)
Hey, this guy on youtube wants to learn how to TAS and I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to help him.
Thanks,
Myles
