Can anyone give a definitive answer to why there are collision fields off the map in BOB?
By that, you're asking why Mario can run around and bump into stuff when he BLJs OOB in BoB? If so, I believe it's a textureless image of the level. This also happens when you do it in BBH and HMC. If you BLJ OOB into Hazy Maze Cave, and you start running and jumping around the new, completely black area that you get warped into, after a few minutes it becomes pretty obvious that the area is the exact same place as the HMC Dorrie area, minus any water or textures. That's my theory, anyway. I mentioned it a long while back (I think), but no one really paid much attention.

That's what I originally believed, but the "pseudo bob" is plagued with invisible walls. I have a few theories: another level's collision fields shifted bitwise or random addresses in memory being loaded due to overflow. the second option could also include a pseudo bob. My last theory is collision fields have a bit (0/1) less for all position values, making them overflow more than the textures, and also positioning this pseudo bob right in the path of the "everything overflow line" leaving the collision fields in a distorted mess right down the middle. When you are dealing with overflow, the computer can't tell between two of the same coordinates. If you don't understand my gibberish, it's not really my fault; I'm too friggin tired.

I love all this freaky running and flying and look forward to seeing more of it, but where is my new 0-star run, guys? Get on it!

I don't think the flying trick has a use in the 0 Star TAS, but it should be quite useful in the 120 star.

mr_roberts_z, are you gonna redo anything(or perhaps you haven't gotten to any differenting level yet?) in order to utilize this trick? Is BoB first level where this is useful?

Robert is fortunately and unfortunately redoing the majority of his 33 star WIP.

Because it's too difficult. I think he was joking.

What levels will this be useful in anyway? Only BoB and Shifting Sand Land?

BoB for sure... SSL probably, if there's a good BLJ spot somewhere for it. Ditto LLL, though nothing comes to mind.

No one has ever gotten any speed from a BLJ in SSL or LLL. The only known BLJ spot in either is the pyramid top when it rises in SSL, but that's useless.

Here's an SSL BLJ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlaNUGZmeRc Probably useless, but could be entertaining for a freerun. Myles

The BLJs inside the pyramid are well known. I was talking about the lack of BLJs outside the pyramid, which is where you could actually do HSF, since there are no wing caps inside the pyramid.

I really suck at tasing this game. I just messed around with the rolling cubes outside the pyramid. That's some hacky collision code there. I was slipping all over the place, clipping in and out of the box and sometimes insta-dying in the air for no reason. No luck getting a BLJ though since the hole inside is bigger than I thought. And I guess if one of the signposts could be used it would be known already. What about using the walk-walls of a pillar in conjunction with the bird? :/

Ok, here are two bljs outside the pyramid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUnPCsutKJI I couldn't do much with either but I was able to find that the walls in ssl almost all have the bounce effect. Lets see if these can be useful

Lol. I was going to suggest trying a BLJ inside the tox box but then I remembered how large they were as well. Looks like bobmario managed better anyway. I figured any successful SSL BLJ would require clever usage of multiple points of bouncing after the initial start. Unless there's some obscure place on that massive slope by the red coin behind the start where you dont slide.

Hey, exactly what buttons are you pressing and all to do this new hyperspeed flying glitch thing? Would someone be kind enough to tell me or send me a .m64 or something? I'd like to try for a weaker version of it on console. Myles

The glitch has to do with bouncing off an invisible wall while doing a backwards C^ slide. This allows you to move forwards at BLJ speeds. If you are wearing a Wing Cap, you can then perform a triple jump to take off normally without losing much speed. I played around with the backwards C^ slide on console a while ago; however, I never managed to gain enough BLJ speed on console to even try to bounce off an invisible wall. Someone who is better at the BoB elevator BLJ could probably get this to work. So the steps are: 1)Obtain a high backwards speed (by BLJ, sliding down a long slope etc.) 2)Hit C^. You will go into a funny sliding state where you can cross really steep slopes and can't change direction 3)Rebound off an invisible wall. You are now moving forwards at a high speed and can jump without losing speed 4)Triple jump to fly.

You can't actually just jump after bouncing though, you need to make mario fall off the ground or be off the ground and then double and triple jump. Heres how it looked for me without tools http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCyqp1n1kRw

Yeah... on console the BoB BLJ is very tricky to get going. When you succeed you usually end up abruptly warping, or don't get enough speed to make a wall. I'm wondering the easiest place to pull it off, since outside the castle is no picnic either. Not much use in a live speedrun at the moment.

Why would that be? You sure it's not just the first tap of A that doesn't work because C^ is still on?

Correct. After pressing C^, you can't jump or otherwise control Mario until you fall off a ledge, which is what is done in BoB.
