Impressive.. but Marahna Act 2 is a painful, painful stage. I wouldn't mind story-related subtitles. Help fill in some waiting times. Man, it's cold leaving that guy to die in Aitos. What happens when you rain on him?
He dies anyways, but he dies happy that his master cried for him.

I have always wondered: Isn't it frustrating beyond belief to be making a speedrun (a regular unassisted one), everything is going just superb, you are going to make a huge record time, and then... you die or, in this case, stumble across a game-breaking bug which stops your attempt? I can imagine I would get so frustrated that I think I couldn't even try it.
Kinda depends. In this case, it was actually pretty funny. Death on the other hand can really piss me off sometimes. But that's the nature of the game. Sometimes you win, sometimes you suck.

Also I remember in 1991 I was playing The Chessmaster (SNES) and for some reason one time the brown King made 8 copies of itself on all adjacent spaces.
Now that would make an interesting chess variant...
Question is, do you have to checkmate one, or checkmate/slatemate them all? As for stuff I've come across, I had one experience while playing Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. This happened on a speed run attempt. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ant_mNCHOk

Yeah, and it's just part 1 - the audio is about 3 seconds behind the video. Part 2 is fine.

Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin needs to be redone. Audio is HORRIFICALLY out of sync.

Am I right that conversations can't be skipped unless you've completed the game once already?
Right, you need a save on the mem card that has beaten the game (don't remember if you have to beat the "true" endings, or just any ending).

P.S. Megaman fires blaster faster when closer to the enemy (at least it seemed like it from the frame advances I was doing with Protoman) so getting in front row vs. LifeVirus may be faster? I noticed you did the run mostly in the middle square.
The thing you have to remember about LifeVirus is that you have take the aura off with a high enough attack, but the rapid fire from up close may help once it's down. But yes, it's faster. I noticed that even when I played unassisted.

Given how fast this glitch can occur and how long under normal circumstances it takes to get to 20th, I don't think that'll be a problem. And once you get on the 2nd lap, you're set.

I would say that most likely the wall detection code doesn't actualize fast enough when you pause & unpause the game to fast & that's the reason you can pass walls as shown on the video... BTW, just read on the video that it doesn't seem to work well on GP as it detects you as going backwards & loosing position, and if you go to low, you'll forfeit...
You only forfeit if you're in a certain place when you finish the lap. But by the time you finish 1 lap, you won't have to worry about it. And given I think you just need to be in 29th place, that should be a breeze.

Have they improved frame advance? Cause whenever I did something that required that with the touch screen, it was a pain in the ass.

Yes vote for the run, and yes vote for the suggestion of two encodes - one standard and one as was given on nicovideo.

Strange they decided not to wait for HG/SS. Also, last time they did this, I think they spent more than 3 days, and failed to catch all the pokemon.
I think the last time they did it, their copy of Ruby failed and killed the save, so even if they were close, that would have still killed their chances.

I wonder how well the new GI-JOE game would be to TAS? Or how about The Humans Meet the Ancestor?

I remember someone made a 3 E-Tank, Varia-less run in Magmoor unassisted and -barely- made it through (like they had 1 or 3 energy left or something) I'm kind of curious what can be done with TASing, but I don't think it'd actually be a time saving maneuver in a real run...
http://www.metroid2002.com/other_varialess_magmoor_run.php This is what you're referring to. And he finished with 1 HP left.

http://speeddemosarchive.com/CastlevaniaAoS.html#bossrush Menu manipulation sucks, battles are slow, and you're bested by a non-TAS run. Big fat no to this run.

I found the subtitles to be an excellent edition. And they look great in Media Player Classic.

can't you just close the ROM and open it again?
No, that's not the point or the problem. What you're suggesting is pretty much turning off the N64, yanking out the cartridge, sticking it back in, then turning it on. What they want to do is basically hit the reset button, but the emulator is not working that way - it's working as if you quick turn the system off then back on. This causes the playback file to desync.

The substitute trick and the cannon riding trick were both fricken AWESOME. YES VOTE! Also can't wait for 100%. I like that better because I know the bonus items are extremely hard to get, plus the ending is nicer. :)

I just got extremely lucky, honestly. Even if they lose there, they'll wax me everywhere else. And you know what? I actually don't mind losing the prestige of saying "I've beaten a TAS!" Cause after 2 years, it's finally time for you guys to whip my ass again. :)

Oh man, I love watching this game. Nice job again! Out of curiosity, it looks like you use a fireball or bomb before you've finished scrolling onto the boss screen (such as in the third-to-last fight of Level 6)... what is that for?
The attacks can carry over from screen to screen, if you time it correctly. Level 1 Boss is very easy to do that on, even playing in real time.

I found a way to get the Heart in morph moths stage w/o the crystal hunter: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1903573104/morphmothheart.smv Even though you get the crystal hunter before this level I thought I'd share it. Youtube'd for the lazy
Nice find, but I doubt it'll save any time. I'm sure a revisit will be faster then that technique.
