While the author writes up information: Link to video Claiming for Publication. Edit: Did the thing again. - Free frame cause Hawk (which we don't talk about). - Patched up character naming. Requesting co-author again I guess.

Turns out there might just be. Coming from the Japanese TASers who are still looking into it. pirohiko may have found something related to faster name entries so-- welcome to the eventual frame war I guess. This has come as a "this came out relatively quickly after the RTA record was approved" kind of comment... which isn't the first time something like this has happened where a new strat was found and a TAS with no refinement or exploration was submitted not even a month after discovery.

Previous movie for context: [2816] NES Final Fantasy "stairs glitch" by TheAxeMan, Inzult & Gyre in 06:58.24 Writing that this is based on an RTA run completed a week ago. So this leaves a major question. Is there a better string of text that can be used to jump to the end faster, and is there a "game end glitch" variant that can obsolete this category? Author actually has an encode: Link to video ---- Edit: Converted it to BizHawk, cleaned up the input (nuked the rerecord count), saved 5 frames and requesting co-author. - 2 frames from reboot (1 frame is free cause BizHawk). - 1 frame on a character name (Red Mage). - 1 frame for late input. And no idea where frame 5 comes from.

If it means anything towards this, this movie beats the KC ver TAS by IGT.
Interestingly enough the IGT actually clocks down faster on the KC version. Yes you can argue glitchyness or what have you but that's thrown out due to how different the two timers are. Meaning there's not really a fair comparison to give this run to the KC version.

How is it a cleaner run by not despawning the eyeball? Would despawning it result in a slower time?
Also to quickly touch the eyeball example preventing the spawn is faster by 3 frames at least on KC. I'm not going to look into the GB version since it's a completely inferior version by creating more lag and having slower movements all round. (Also the eye falls faster in the KC version meaning that it will hit you no matter what on the way down so you have to make sure it doesn't spawn on top of you first.)

Author created a 6 second (380 frames) improvement over the submission: http://tasvideos.org/userfiles/info/71131346582067747 No idea where tho (cause I didn't check).

In a TAS we use practically an emulated controller, after all how else we can get for example Mario to move? Do you think you're more suited for this thread instead which is also Off topic?

Because the section it was originally in was related to tool assisted work. This isn't, therefore off topic.

Hey Acumenium are you actually bothering to read what I wrote or are you just skimming over the points again? Heck, I'm not even the only one in this thread with issues about this thread's existence:

I'm just more in-depth about it. Also "hostility" seriously? Either make a valid point here about why you're for or against a massive list or just don't participate in the thread in the first place. You're not a Publisher or an Encoder, you seriously lack the information.

This doesn't beat the published run of this category.
To expand on this, cause this is just with a lot of blank input, all it does is match the currently published movie and doesn't actually improve anything from it. Please use your userfiles in the future. Unnecessary Spiked input just to show that it matches the currently published TAS.

Oh right. Author DM'd me this like 5 hours later it's probably important enough for the discussion of this movie that has glaring issues looking at the input alone:

I'm not here to give counseling so I'm just going to talk about the mash happy input that is-- your input. This is just almost borderline RTA play with some TAS input thrown in to spice the pot up a bit, I'm not fixing this input cause it's too much to fix. This is the tutorial level, or nine-ball done in a faster time on 2.6.1.

I disagree that complaining about something not being updated to modern resolutions (like majority of the publications) compared to something like melted encodes is counterproductive, especially when people are actually doing reencodes to begin with other TASes. If they want to complain about it they might as well learn to be an encoder and learn how to encode every publication pre-2015. This is not something that we should be condoning. It's almost like bumping publications going "hey new encode please".

We know. This applies to basically a lot of TASes pre-2015 publication date.

Decided to complete the comparison cause the author wasn't going to: 12 seconds IGT improvement 'cause of Meerkov killing input early. However excluding that early input this is 10 seconds slower than Meerkov. Edit: Also a Heavy Spike of somewhere between 7840 (cause blank input) to 7606 frames shaved off the author's input, it doesn't splice in Meerkov's work* and it completes the final level instead of ending input early. Fun Fact: Author's TAS actually wasn't adjusted for 2.6.1. It'll sync up to 2.4. *Don't want to splice in Meerkov's work especially with that 12 second lead you have on the previous TAS since it implies that the original input is suboptimal.

You know instead of complaining about stuff like saying it's the emulator fault (cause you both use Hawk) you should've just done math.
Level - Time | Meer | Ryu
Level 1 - 1:40 | 1:24 | 1:24
Level 2 - 1:50 | 0:56 | 0:58
Level 3 - 2:00 | 1:41 | 1:51
Higher is better
Only comparing the first 3 levels you're ahead by 12 seconds.

No cosmetic hacks or fan translations We don't allow hacks that only serve to change the looks of the original game. Hacks must provide unique game-play. This rule is strict.
