I have made a TAS demo which plays through the first half of level 1. I'm not planning on TASing the whole game but I would definitely be happy to potentially work with others on this game. User movie #639194474636615117 Encode: Link to video

This is an interesting game with a bunch of potential. The game has an infinite jump exploit which naturally allows for a lot of skips throughout the run. The game has a couple of theoretical huge skips which could cut out a significant portion of the run if ways to perform them were found. The first of which is in the second part of level 2. There are two doors at the end of the section. One door opens which takes you to the next part of the level. The next door however is locked at this point in the game. The second door takes you to a section you normally don't go to until you finish level 3. If you could find a way to enter the door early, that could be huge if it works, saving somewhere inbetween 10-15 minutes as a guess. An exploit to enter blocked doors would also allow for more skips throughout the run. The second big theoretical skip is in WCW, the 4th level. You normally have to complete 4 mini-games in order to open the door to the next level (this door is a horizontal barrier). If you could get past the door without having to beat the mini-games, you can skip to the next level (I have verified that this would work). This would save close to 10 minutes but I don't know how this could be achieved. You can't infinite jump OOB and you couldn't theoretically zip through the door. It seems like the only way to make this work is to somehow clip into the floor by the door where you can then jump into the trigger. There is currently no known way to clip in this game and there isn't a lot to work with by the door. The current RTA WR is just over 1 hour and 10 minutes. A TAS could probably finish the game in 50-60 minutes but that could potentially be way lower if those major skips are possible.

Hi SuperSqank, I have a question, do you want to add you as a co-author to this submission, and if ChesetheStickman wouldn't mind as well?
Yes please, I'm all for it.

Thanks. I've finished the first 5 levels now. There were areas where I unfortunately couldn't find anything faster but there's still a whole bunch of skips throughout these levels. Link to video

Updated. I'm actually surprised you found an improvement just near the end of the game (the Doppelganger section). Nice work again!
Thanks. I did try and avoid the ledge grab but I couldn’t get it to work.

Sorry for leaving this so late (I haven't been at home until recently and I only figured out I could improve this run this morning) but I have made an 83 frame improvement. Please replace the movie file with this one if possible: User movie #639180551220238726

I would like to delay the run. I think I can save a bit of extra time although I can't work on the run currently. I will give an update in around a week.

I have started TASing this game. This is a port of the Genesis version. This version of the game is very not good but it does have a bunch of exploits and skips. Link to video

As someone who has done RTA runs of this game, I've wanted to see TASes for this game for a long time so I am very much looking forward to potentially seeing this.

Great work. I was looking forward to seeing a full improvement after you posted a preview a while ago and this certainly delivered. Yes vote.

I have made one more improvement. All of the platforming levels are more optimised now and I have cleaned up inputs throughout the run. This has been an interesting game to look into. Thank you Chese for making the original TAS. User movie #639146455947168153 I also have a YouTube encode of this update: Link to video

Thanks. I have made another movie which saves another 36 seconds. This run performs new routes in levels 4 and level 6 and there are a couple of smaller improvements in other areas. There is definitely still room for more optimisation but here is a sizeable improvement for the time being. User movie #639145677716946065

Nice work. I was interested in seeing a TAS for this game and it has now happened. I decided to take a little look at this game myself and I figured out a few things. If you walk off a platform, stop moving and then move again, you can reset the falling timing to walk on air and jump when you are done. You can even mash a direction to slowly descend. I figured out that with this exploit, you can get the keys early on level 1, saving a lot of time. I have made an improvement incorporating this skip. This saves 45 seconds (the reason it is longer is because it includes the DS BIOS and goes to the credits). The rest of the run is the same outside of a few sync adjustments in certain areas. The run definitely has potential to be optimised further. I imagine air walking can be used in more places to save time and there are a couple of other general optimisations which could be implemented throughout the run. 1. The game lags for a bit while it loads a textbox so textboxes should be avoided whenever possible and fast 2. If you climb just below the top of a ladder, stop moving and then move up for one frame on the next frame, you can climb up the ladder without that significant height gain. I have made an improvement which is nearly 17 seconds faster. Most of the time save comes from a new route in Rainy Forest 1 which saves around 13 seconds but there are also time saves in Fiery Depths 1 and 3, Arcane Forest 2 and 4 and Mr. Dark. Please replace the movie file with this one: User movie #639131430264587024 I also have a GBMV file which should hopefully work for console verification: User movie #639131428569330550

Thank you all. It was definitely interesting glitch hunting for this run and the final run definitely has a lot of wild stuff.

I've decided to look into 100%. The category is interesting as normally, you are supposed to beat the game and backtrack to earlier levels with upgrades to find cages but it is possible to skip every revisit. This is a demonstration which plays through Spellbound Forest, including a revisit skip on the 2nd level. Link to video

I've been looking into this game again and I have found an exploit where you can start crawling and then immediately switch characters in order to inch through a crawl space while standing. This can potential be used in the second to last section in level 3 to to climb up the level faster (shown in this video). Unfortunately however, I have not found a way to clip back in bounds. This could be a decent timesave if a way to clip back inbounds was found. Link to video
