This run by Abeshi is nowhere short of amazing. Nice to see Abeshi making an effort and still uploading runs of OoT. His take on TAS-ing seems to be very different from parts of the community here. I appreciate that. My understanding is that he aims for the fastest time only. Using whatever methods available to him without explaining every move he makes. While it's normal that people here provide detailed descriptions of where time is saved and how, and where they copied old techniques and input, this does not seem relevant to Abeshi. (or maybe it's the language-barrier) I can respect his methods either way. Lets focus on the positive stuff guys. His runs are entertaining and makes more ppl watch OoT. Questions to the experts: (Bloob, Grunz, etc) Is there any new trick or routechange performed here which might help u in making new runs? Is it faster to skip the dekustick in Jap room due to faster text? Is there any major improvement allready discovered for OoT that abeshi did not use in this run?

given the choice between a tas that optimizes things to make gameplay seem superhuman and finds new routes and one that uses glitches to attempt to do things as fast as the programming will allow i will opt for the former as the latter is typically boring
I agree with this. Everytime I see a BLJ it ruins it for me. I still really love the non-BLJ parts though. What would be superawesome megacool would be to see a non-BLJ run = )

We actually had a very nice route idea for any%, but it would require Deku Stick on B as adault. Can somebody fix that in mupen? XD Or at least combine the reset recording mupen with the pause bug fix mupen? That would be nice.
Is deku stick on B as adult even possible?

Very impressive analyzis adelikat. I am sorry for my comments earlier. I guess my fear of this run getting rejected for the wrong reasons got the better of me. I apologize for hinting towards any racial or partial judging, I should have known better. On another note: Awesome that this got accepted :D I can't wait for the progress of this game as people try to perfect both the time and the camerawork!

Dude, calm down. Your asessment of my userstatus on this site (however farfetched) is irrelevant to the topic. Also posting an opinion and claiming it's objective and everyone agrees with you is just sad.

You mad because I brought up abeshi? :D And now something constructive (non-racial) to the debate: People come here to watch the fastest possible way to finish games. Keeping the obsolete run would be like cheating the audience. EDIT: It seems the post above me tried to make the same point. I just removed the "I'm affraid to step on anyones feelings" part from his argument.

lol. Feel free to make your conclusions man. It's obvious to me that you are mad because this run surpassed the old one. Trying to talk it down blaming the camera-angles of their choosing is pathetic. You have a good day sir.

I am glad to see that my comment gathered such support. I was actually close to making such a comment back when abeshi's superior Zeldarun was being targetted with simular irrelevant critisism. Altough I realise most of you believe I was trolling, I am really not. If Micky & co were active english-speaking communitymembers here, which u had all interacted with related to the TAS-work they had done, there is no doubt in my mind that this whole debate would be non-existant. It's allright to be irritated that the work of your "TAS-friends" was surpassed. It's only natural. But try to refrain from the desperationsearch for irrelevant flaws. Accept the fact that they surpassed the previous run. If and when this run is surpassed then the authors of that new record can use the camera-angles of their choosing just like Micky & co used theirs.

Finally a new record for SM64! I just watched it and I was amazed by the superior quality to the previous run. I skimmed through some of the discussion before posting here and would like to say that it would be a damn shame if the racist americans reject this japanese masterpiece. This was pure awesomeness from beginning to end =) Please publish so more people will be able to see it! edit: I would like to add that logic dictates that this is the correct way to look at it:

It depresses me that both SDA and TASVideos have this strange subjective attraction to "entertainment" versus speed and somehow weigh them against eachother as if that is a fair system. Publish the fastest run. This is the fastest run.
Absolutely spot-on. More importantly, speed is an objective measurement, while "entertaining" is a subjective measurement. These submission issues would be resolved if we simply appealed to an objective standard. Tool-assistance is trivially primarily about speed, or we wouldn't obsolete runs primarily based on time. It's silly to say, "A faster submission? Submit! A faster submission? Submit! A faster submission? Well, this ones not as incrementally faster as the others, maybe faster isn't better..."; be consistent. We're suppose to find maximizing speed entertaining, or that wouldn't be the overarching goal of TASing. And in the cases where we feel we want both speed and completeness, we have those categories too. If a run is made for non-speed entertainment, it should go in the hacks/demos/other section; and if you want to watch runs based on non-speed entertainment instead of for-speed, head on over there. Leave the for-speed sections alone.

If it's true that it is possible with the actual console and it makes Ocarina of Time runs better, then it should be allowed imo

I think option 3 with Wouter's Idea would be best, that's really the perfect solution, is anyone not satisfied by that?
The run was submitted over a week ago = ) Without extra skippable cutscenes
