The description talks about the arm pump dash... doesn't that require single frame accuracy? How could you arm pump 30 times per second on a real controller in real time?

While I still think it would have been generous of you to rescue the animals, this is a definite yes vote.

Here I go again... Does it do anything useful if you shinespark Ridley? I assume you'd need to get him to interrupt a crystal flash to get the charge, since I doubt you have enough room to build up the charge normally even with slow running.

This is true. If you don't go to that room and make that pixel move across the screen, Fusion won't make sense.

Is 100% going to include rescuing the critters during the escape? It will take extra time, and it doesn't count toward the game's % counter, but if your goal is to leave nothing behind, then animals should count. (Call it 101% if you like.)

Or keep posting WIPs to the same URL, but don't say the URL in the new posts. ie. when you say "I'm at 60%" that's code for all of us that know the URL from a previous page to go grab it again, but it's enough extra steps that the people who don't want it spoiled don't have to worry.

So he's not like a wall for stopping the shinespark? That's certainly strange. Now I want to see Samus spark down his throat even more :P

What happens if you use slow running to build a charge and shinespark into Crocomire's open mouth? Does he take much (any) damage? Do you go right through him and get stuck on the other side? I'm imagining how awesome it would look to pull it off and hoping there would be a reason to do it.

After getting item 15, you do a shallow jump while speed-boosting to break the block on the other side of the door. Is it not possible to store the charge, shoot the blocks and the door, then shinespark out the door and across the green room to collect 83-85? (or do those require something strange like a power bomb?) And why is it faster to collect 86 where you have it scheduled instead of the first time through, since 87 is on the other side of Zebes?

If the computer player is buying Oriental, does that decrease their cash-on-hand enough that you can decrease the number of houses you buy? Or do they mortgage it to pay their debt, so it doesn't help?

I think if I was going to make a hack I'd change the item orders around a lot, like by having Grapple Beam be the first item or something. Of course, it's not like I actually have time for that.

Saturn: I'm not sure if you've mentioned it yet, but will you be getting the grappling beam? It seems like it might give you better mobility in several of the water rooms (making up for the lack of Gravity Suit), although I'm not sure if the detour would end up being worthwhile, or if there's a silly rule in the game like, "You can't use the grappling beam underwater without the gravity suit." Even if you did get the grappling beam, it would still be faster just to pepper the boss with super missiles than to use the grapple trick, correct? (ie. Water doesn't slow down your rate of fire--or does it?)

I thought he was referring to the door early in Kraid's area where the door won't open to let you out until you kill all the leech-bug-things, that has an Energy tank in it.

Michael Flatley does it faster, it can be seen in his video. I don't know if that energy tank should be picked up in a tool-assisted demo though.
If you can pick it up before fighting Kraid, it might be necessary to make it to (and through) lower Norfair, but I seem to remember that room being one you could only get on the way out after beating Kraid, in which case it's definitely not worth it, at least for the RBO-Suitless.

What's the nature of the one-way gate that stops you from entering lower norfair through the back door? If it's possible to use a crystal flash to get the Spore Spawn super missile, is it possible to use one to skip the huge lava pit blocking the front door? Alternatively, is it possible to shinespark out of that lava pit without the gravity and varia suits?

That's why you'd have to restart a run to use it, since you'd have to go into the menu. Maybe someone who's still in the planning phase (JXQ) would be able to use it, but it would be a few frames going into the menu to turn it on, so you'd need to know in advance that it was going to be useful somewhere. That said, I always thought it was hard to use as a human, but playing with frame advance would certainly let you use it optimally if there was a place where that could be done.

It lets you walk backwards, although possibly only when shooting. I don't remember exactly.

I wondered if there was any potential use for the moonwalk in a time attack. I seem to remember it being a slow way of moving, although I don't know if it interacts with the fist pump in any meaningful way. I always turned it off when I played, but if there's some weird acceleration thing with it the way there is in Mario games with reversing course in mid-air, maybe it would be come in handy. I don't think anyone had discussed the use of the moonwalk in a time attack, but I didn't know if that was because it was known to be bad, assumed to be bad, or just that nobody had thought of it. Edit: Of course, if it's no slower but more stylish to do some things with the moonwalk, that might be a reason to use it, although not if it meant restarting a run to turn it on.

Actually I'm not sure it's possible anymore. You would need a really high bounce on 2-2 to hit the guy who's flying really high after the second tree, and if you use the spark to bust up the trees you can't tap A when you hit the ground for extra bounce. The platform the second tree is on is the one you need to bounce from to hit that guy, so I don't think it's possible. I did get about 5 frames faster than Tilus on that hole by taking a slightly different route, though.

Inspired by some of your tricks, I improved my own video. Now I'm 28 frames faster than you by the end of course 1, and I still have all the holes-in-one. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/get/21/Kirby%27s%2BDream%2BCourse%2B-%2BTorgen%2B-%2BCourse%2B1%2B-%2B8%2Bstrokes%2Bv3.smv

I have some WIP--it's slow, but it gets the hole in one on 1-8. The trick is to keep your jump on 1-6 by turning the parasol guy into the hole, then use the jump out of the pit on 1-8. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/20/Kirby%27s+Dream+Course-Course+1+-+8+strokes.smv

What, no hole in 1 on the 8th?
