I just put up a description for this movie. I didn't really know what to write, so let me know if you have some more interesting info you think should be in there.

Why are the replays so rediciously big by the way? Is it because it saves analog data from the joystick in some idiotic way? There's no reason for it to be that big, even though there are more buttons on a PSX controller than other older ones.

Try in Genesis or Arcade version perhaps? The game physics are almost exactly the same as far as I know. I used to be teh_pwnage at this game, or at least I thought so. I only played the PC version though, which as far as I can tell had a lot better music.

I have never even heard the name of this game, which doesn't happen a lot.

---- Hello Terimakasih. Yes, your movie does break the rules. The movie must begin from reset. Your movie starts from a save and skips the intro. You can read the rules here: http://tasvideos.org/Rules.html#toc1 Since movies which start from a save are difficult to compare, they are not allowed. Suggestions for improvement in the next video: * Do the menues faster * Stop the movie earlier * When you break blocks (for example with the Super Bomb), jump in advance so that you have downward speed Try your best! (My Japanese is not good, but I think you will understand the main outline of it.)

I was wondering when this discussion was going to start. As I asked before, how many fatalities are possible in a run? My suggestions: * TOASTY! with Scorpion * The bugged reverse acid pool fatality * Spike ceiling + slide down (you might need two controllers, I'm not sure)

Blocking takes off a good chunk of life. >If you can find a humorous and easy way to beat Shao Kahn(who if I remember was absolutely nothing compared to motaro), You mean Kintaro, right? But yeah, I can agree. I could only ever consistently beat Kintaro with Kitana. Then I'd lose on purpose and pick a different character for the end demo. If there's a suckerway to beat the last boss that could be fun, but it would perhaps be easy to believe that it simply relied on timing and savestate instead of a simple technique. Okay, this is becoming too much talk (yeah, mainly by me) and no shop. Let's see a preliminary video!

>And I agree, a Shang Tsung run for 2 would be neat to watch. One thing you should look into is the possibility of starting a combo while morphed, then finishing it after turning back into Shang. Actually it may be possible to pull off another morph within a combo then finish it. The morphing animation is sort of sluggish, so it will be difficult to pull off inside a combo. Three fireballs at the end of a combo would sure be neat though... How many matches are there as most, and how many of those are fatality-able? Does getting Smoke cancel the current match, meaning you lose a fatality? If I read correctly in the FAQs, you can perform a fatality if you lose by a throw in some circumstances. That could be worth a continue to see. This could be very interesting. :)

Just saw that this page looked funny. I don't think the bullet list was like that before. http://tasvideos.org/queue.cgi?id=265 Is this similar to the segmentation fault on the WhyHow page? It was removed before I saw it, so I wouldn't know. What's happening?

Say we have a platform game which you can win by pressing right all the time. Someone submits a run for this, and it's perfect. Should we publish it? Probably not. Even though it's perfect, it's not very entertaining to watch. While this game is a lot more difficult than that, I think it's not impressive enough. Bugs would help, or some tricks to make it go faster, maybe a boss with the capacity of actually killing you, just something else than running forward. You are right that I don't like a lot of the art in museums. But I don't get to choose which art should be accepted there, the museum owners do that. This "museum owner" has decided to give us a chance to vote on what should be displayed, and I feel like using that right. Also, you'd might like to read this part of the guidelines: http://tasvideos.org/Guidelines.html#toc12

I think a movie of this would aim more for showing off, and aiming less for fastest possible time. There are some pretty funny (and unintended) possible combos in MK2. MK3 has mostly pre-programmed combos. My suggestion would therefore be a run in MK2, focusing on showoff and not on best time, with Shang Tsung. Ideas would be: * If you do Smoke (which I'm personally for), get him in the corner and high-punch him to oblivion. * Use the stage-specific fatalities. * Punch off three heads with Cage. * Freeze indefinetily with Sub-Zero after fatality. When you turn back into Shang Tsung, you can transform into another character and perform their fatality on the frozen opponent. * 100% combo (with Kitana?) * Glitched high punch (takes off more than it's supposed to) GameFAQs has some very good info on MK2. Glitches, tricks, combos. Be warned: People have said that this game is very prone to desynch. I'm not sure if the same is true for the Genesis version. Does the SNES have blood by the way? It's not Mortal Kombat if there's no blood. >:/

You mean that the boss stays on 0 health and doesn't die?

Probably not. I'm a bit worried that you'll wear yourself out before finishing this, since you're aiming so high for the first version.

Just watched this. Does being hit by enemies give a boost? I can't tell if it's faster than walking. You exit both levels with a lot of spare health in any case. You don't jump up the last ladder. Is this because of the wind? A silly thing I noticed: if you climb up to the top of the first wall (to the left), jump away from it and press left immediately, you grab it a bit further in every time. Eventually you will go so far into the wall that you go trough it and fall down to your death. I'm not sure if this is an effect of the bug mentioned above, but you don't need to press both directions at the same time. Perhaps it could be used for passing trough walls at some point, or just for general crazyness after a boss is beaten.

Very very good. Only one question: At the very first wall, just before the first door, you seem to climb slower than in the other places. What gives? I had some more ideas, but watched it again and realised all of them were impossible because of lack of ninja points.

>You can't. It knocks you backwards, and by the time you get back to it, your invulnerability wears off, and you get knocked back again. It is possible to pass through after 2 hits, but it's no faster than waiting. :D Thanks for the explanation. I wish you both luck with your new cooperative project.

You could try: * Reloading the ROM instead of reset. They are not always identical. * Not fast-forwarding the movie. Otherwise, if you're using the correct ROM, I have no idea.

One thing I've always wondered is why you wait behind that spiky enemy in the first shaft where you have to turn into a ball. Can't you just roll trough it and take damage? I guess not (it seems too obvious) but I'm still curious as to why.

Only a tactic of never-losing though, there is no always-win strategy. If both players know it the game will be all draws... EDIT: Nevermind, I saw that Boco already posted a new thread.

No problem. If you want, you can post your progress in the Genesis forum and people can give advice and ideas. That way you don't have to redo the whole movie if you made a mistake early on.

Virtuanes has a similar but more severe issue with this - it also always loads a savestate, but there is no reset, so you have to trust the user that the savestate is really from the first frame of power-on, and hasn't been doctored. Because of this virtuanes movies were judged unacceptable until this is fixed. The others I think are truly power-on based. The page keeping updates on this is http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorRecordingStatus.html

Good point. Hopefully only if they used something which relied on different starting conditions. I don't think many runs did in the past. If the power-on state is the same as the savestate+reset state, which I can imagine that it usually is, there should be no problem. I can't say for sure though. Testing needs to be done on this. If it turns out that most or some movies doesn't work, it's always possible to save the emulator version in the header of the movie file. Have the emulator being able to play both old savestate movies and new poweron movies, but only accept the new version this site henceforth. It will be tricky to figure out if any of the old movies are not legit in that case, unfortunately.
