Hello, Mr Boyfriend. Ziplock has not been around for a length of time now, but post your findings here (or in a Jaws thread in NES forum) and people will most likely be interested.

>What glitches does Atma use? Both his submission and the published movie states that he uses glitches to skip a decently-sized portion of the castle. To me it felt like pirate_sepiroth did exactly the same thing, only better. We didn't get a conclusion yesterday, so I'll talk it over with Bisqwit asap, as suggested.

>Generally, doing an impression means imitating someone's voice and mannerisms for comedic effect, while an impersonation is more often used to mean actually attempting to pass yourself off as someone else, for deception. Thanks... kind of a strange way to use the word impression, to me. If I didn't know the word and had to guess, I would guess impersonation or perhaps imitation. xebra> Also, I'm curious, why would you immediately assume an argumentative and fairly condescending tone instead of just taking seven minutes to watch the video and determine that it was, in fact, new? Because: Truncated> (I'm not allowed to browse youtube from work) Youtube is blocked here, so I couldn't watch it. Since you said Madden impression, and Bob said half of it was Bush, it sounded a lot like the one I had seen. About the date, people get misinformed all the time (descriptions on youtube surely aren't always accutrate, etc) so I thought I'd ask if it was this one or a new one. Everyone isn't out to get you, xebra. :> Sorry if it sounded argumentative, it was really only meant as a question.

If it's the Frank Caliendo act where he does a John Madden impression, then Al Pacino and what's his name - George Dubya Bush, (I'm not allowed to browse youtube from work) then it's a lot older than a few nights, it's been sitting on my harddrive for a few months at least. Or is it a new one with the same characters? I agree that he does just about the best impersonations (impressions?) I have ever seen.

Hello Orochi / Oliver, and welcome here. >All the games are all ready taken >_< No games are "taken", you are welcome to try to improve any game which already has a movie. >what game should I try? got any suggestions.. Megaman is one of my favourite games of all time [: There is a list of suggestions on ListOfIdeas, but all suggestions there are not necessarily good. It is a good idea to post a WIP when you make a movie so people can give feedback if it is interesting or if there are tricks that you missed. Keep in mind that most of the Megaman games are VERY tightly optimized as it is, and might be difficult for a first project. ---- EDIT: For some reason, the >_< smiley ate my next paragraph! What's going on? Perhaps disabling HTML will help...

>I still don't understand why this beats Atma's any% run. This movie uses glitches much like the warpful run of Circle of the Moon. Either Atma's run should stay up, or the Circle of the Moon non-warp run should be taken down. Since I made that call I guess I should answer with my reasoning: Both Atma's run and this are effectively any% runs, and they both used glitches to skip parts of the game. If Atma had known about the warp glitch there's no reason to think he wouldn't have used it. Additionally PS said he would like his future 100% run to obsolete this run, which felt completely backwards, that should be a new category. And having all of - any%, normal, glitches but no warp glitch - any%, hard, warp glitch - Julius run - possible future 100%, warp glitch seemed excessive, so the best option seemed to be to merge the two first categories and allow future runs to use normal difficulty. For the record I don't think having 4 Metroid runs is a good idea either, but I don't get to make that decision. ----- EDIT: I just saw the discussion in the GBA topic, which brought some new information. I'll be on IRC in a few hours, I hope interested parties can join too and we can try to solve this mess to everyone's liking.

>So why does he spend an entire level immersed in it? Incorrect translation. The japanese text on the screen say something like "Water is Pulseman's weakness!" (if I remember correctly), meaning he loses his electric charge if he touches water.

This was actually nice, despite the horrible game. The level-up sequence has to be the best i've seen for any RPG... like inverted arkanoid where the balls come from below and you catch them instantly with your paddle. Or something. Ehrm. The final room killed the run. Running around for how many minutes and doing nothing just to get health? Stupid. Skipping that, I quite liked it. It will get a weak yes just because I'm feeling so nice today.

mwl: There is a lack of agreement between this site's principles and my own. I couldn't get a coherent viewpoint out of the two bricks for paragraphs you wrote, so I'll just take your first sentence and guess it means that this site should change its principles instead of you. Is that something along the lines of what you meant?

parrot14gree: If you make a substantial improvement, cancel this movie and submit a new one. If it is just a small fix, you can contact Bisqwit and he will replace the movie file. If you plan on redoing this game, I really recommend using Mega Man X2 (US version). It makes comparison SO much easier, without someone wasting their time on counting frames. It is also highly suggested in the Rules. Disclaimer: I haven't seen it yet, but if FractalFusion is impressed, it has to be good!

I don't know if I've seen a game with this much flicker. Ever. That sort of ruined the experience for me. Other than that, it seemed good.

I have played this game before. Most of the time then I was dying. This beats everything very efficiently, but the bonus rounds destroy it for me. With only the fights and some more tempo (and perhaps, music?), I could vote yes. You seem to have the skills, so I recommend trying another game. I can't see this one being published.

Doesn't seem optimized in the beginning where you just hammer start. Find the correct frame and press it. Everywhere: If you jump higher for the cape swipe you won't stop when you land. You make this mistake constantly. I liked the jumping bug. How do you perform it? 1:20:08: can you jump with Mickey (instead of falling) to pass the ledge sooner? Same thing at 1:29:10, do you have to land on the ledge first? Glitching through the ducking section, it appears that Mickey enters first but exits last. How come? He looks immobile for a while. After glitching through the ducking section, can you jump off the ledge instead of running and falling? For the crawling sections where you can't glitch, I'm not sure, but it looks like you can crawl marginally faster by reastarting the crawl before it loses speed. Getting hurt during the cart scene means you can't duck for some time, did you test not taking damage here? Overall it's a cute game, I rented it more than once, but there are quite a few long running stretches where nothing happens. I think it's borderline.

>Pressing shift 5 times in a row activates some really annoying feature in Windows i.e stickykeys. You can turn off stickykeys. Ctrl- and Alt- commands in Gens however, you cannot turn off. I will check the movie when I get home.

>its hard to find a good configuration as sometimes the certain button combinations don't work or I end of activating GENS deviced (I end UP activating.) Do you have any keys bound to Alt or Ctrl to activate those emulator commands? You shouldn't use those keys for playing. Shift should be fine, I use that for frame advance since it works together with pretty much any button. >I've found a very interesting 2P glitch is saves about 10 seconds in the first level. Sounds promising. The main error of the last movie was that there was nothing spectacular, just running through everything.

There were two submissions of this a long time ago in a galaxy far away: http://tasvideos.org/119S.html It was initially scheduled for publication, but Nifboy canceled it himself due to thinking it was a bad choice for a game. Just something to think about.

I am very surprised (and pleased) by the amount of people who dislike beer here. Usually I consider my dislike of beer my biggest handicap when going out. Everyone expects you to drink it, on some student festivities it's all they serve. I rarely (if ever) meet a male who can't stand the taste and go for cider/cocktails/wine instead. Perhaps it's part of the nerd gene? ---- While we're at the topic, I feel a need to you about a colleague's female friend, who started talking to a random boy in a bar with the line "What? Are you drinking CIDER, you nerd?!" ... which eventually translated into a several year long relationship.

I've always wanted a good graphical movie editor that can handle several formats, but all attempts so far have been aborted. I haven't tried this one yet, but maybe I should. Just for now, I can give my views for what features are wanted. >Frame editing? Yes, of course. Empty frame insertion and frame deletion are also a must. >Bookmarking? A diff engine? What would these two features do more exactly? Would the bookmarks be saved in the SMV file, or lost when you close the program? I can imagine a diff engine being neat, but now how I would use it. I wouldn't make it a top priority. >Should metadata be editable? Yes please. >Should rerecords update (target += (source-target)? If you're making it in parts, this makes sense. If you're just splicing in a part from a file which you recorded from your old movie file, the rerecord amount will effectively be doubled. You can make it deselectable via option, but it's not a critical matter to keep the re-record number correct. >PS. I think I'll tackle FCM next ... is there any need for FMV? Should there be integrated FMV->FCM conversion? What nitsuja said. I imagine FCM, GMV, VBM, M64 are next in decending order of importantness (judging from the number of movies we have for each system).

Game: Laggy as hell... if you're going to reduce lag in this game to complete it faster, you have a big task in front of you. I'm not sure if people would like it... the reception for Genesis games here is generally lukewarm. It's one is not terrible, but I would suggest looking around for another game. If you do go ahead with this one, complete the bonus levels. Movie: Doesn't seem too optimized. Perhaps this is because the character is so clunky and somewhat unresponsive to your controls. In the first level, you should just drop down instead of hanging on to the vine. (Probably grab it at the very end to prevent fall damage. Test which way is faster.)

If you're wondering why this hasn't been accepted yet, I'm not sure what to think here. Feelback would be appreciated. I noticed and Guybrush confirmed a possible 10-frame improvement on the first level (pogo off the bees while climbing up). Now usually a 10-frame mistake is nothing and would not be an issue for accepting a movie, but in this case the improvement from the previous version is only 85 frames, so 10 frames feels more siginificant. It would feel silly to have another movie later which improved this one with only 10 frames.

nfq: Wohoo, English spelling, my favourite subject! Substituting thru for through is completely sensible to me. It also has some precursors which sadly never caught on. Using slang for the purpose of using slang, such as 4ever, is not very clever tho(ugh), and makes it harder to understand for people who do not have English as their first language (and there are a lot of us here). Upthorn> Opera is non-compliant in several ways, last I checked. With risk of derailing this thread, which ways, and when did you check (t.i. which version)?

>"Fixed" the one-column problem by substituting the floating boxes with a two-column table. Damn non-compliant browsers. Are you suggesting Opera is non-compliant? I'm pretty sure they would like to hear about such a thing so they can fix it, since they are usually very zealous about conforming to standards.
