I suddenly get lots and lots of error messages when browsing the main site. They all (?) look like this:
error_handler:
	errstr=Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/inc/referercheck.php:145)
	errfile=/home/WWW/wikisites/nesvideos-site/inc/sessionfun.php
	errline=20
Am I the only one experiencing these problems? I'd ask in IRC but I can't access that from work.

>I, for one, would LOVE to see a movie of this game. Even though you can't run, have to play the game through 4 times and can only use one character at a time for all the levels? To me that sounds very boring. And just how are suggesting the movie should be recorded and encoded unless people download the ROM? I'm pretty sure none of the encoders own a Famicom. :P

Topic revive! I've restarted this project for anyone interested. Completed two levels in the last few days, and I'm now up to level 15. Level 13 had a mind-numbingly boring "luck-manipulate to reduce lag" section which had me put off for a good while. I'm pretty sure that it isn't optimal, but it's good enough and I don't want to completely give up because of that spot. Boss 13 went incredibly well. After some testing I managed to do it 8 seconds faster than what the Japanese site lists as best time under optimal conditions. Level and boss 14 were nothing special, so now it's on to the flower impersonator. I need to test how fast the phoenix is compared to just flaming him, but after that the next two levels are easy.

>I'd love to see the differences between Doki Doki Panic and Super Mario Bros. 2! Like stated above, the easiest way then is probably to just play the game.

>It would be better optimally to TAS something like Shaq-Fu. OMFG no. One-on-one fighting games should as an (inofficial) rule never go for time.

I have a slightly different question and I'm now shamelessly high-jacking this thread. I have a younger brother of 13 who I would like to introduce to the wonders of programming. What language would you suggest he starts with? Consider things like good programming practices, ease of use, and giving some kind of result early on so he doesn't think it's boring.

>Anyone who thinks its possible has obviously never tried it. I know it's possible exactly because I have tried it. And it was messy too, since I believed what everyone had said about not being able to do it.

I think it's kind of funny that 5/6 of the games mentioned first already had attempts at TASes. - Solomon's Key 2 (NES) - SimCity (SNES) - Front Line (NES) - Clue (GEN) - Chessmaster (NES)

>Actually it gives both frames and time. Megaman took 3:10 and was 11592 frames in length. So 11592 frames/190 seconds = 60 frames/second. Or do we really need the program to give it to us? See what nitsuja said. Apparently it assumes 60 fps to give a time in seconds. If the framerate is always constant, saving it is unneccesary, but most systems have variable framerate. >And while I'm at it, what is your Avatar? I can't seem to quite figure it out... It's a hand holding a mallet, with the text 先端が切られた superimposed. See the topic about it.

>Now if the framerate is used to determine length, and the program tells you the length, ... The program gives you the length in frames. The framerate is used to determine length in human-readable minutes-seconds. You still need both.

You can say that again!

So I did it for you.

>I will probably end up testing it on console. I thought the reason you were asking here was that measurements on a emulator were more precise than on a console. I think spotting a 21-frame difference in a longer period of black screen is more or less impossible. Unless the record-keeping institution adds up all your game units instead of your total real time, game units are irrelevant.

This game has been known for quite some time to be a major desynch whore. I haven't checked the WIPs (and I can't do it right now either), but I remember turning off Volume Envelope Height Reading fixing (most of?) the desynch issues, but also makes the music and sfx sound completely crap. Does this movie have that option enabled?

>If I have to start all over again, it's going to royally suck. On the other hand, if you don't, it's almost surely going to be rejected, and even if it's accepted, someone can very easily improve on it with out really playing that much better. I don't know how far along you are, but if it's towards the latter half, my suggestion would be to continue the game using the new trick. This gives you a sense of completion instead of starting over blank. Take a break and then start a new version. You will also have something to compare against. Easier said than done, all this.

I noticed some rearrangements in how Deleted pages are handled. Two objections to the new way this works: 1) All pages links to TODO, with a note that the page is to be deleted. Why? They are already deleted. It also clutters the TODO referrer list, which I and I suppose other people use to check for unfinished descriptions etc. 2) All the edit history comments are replaced with "Page deleted". This makes sense for the last edit, but destroys useful info should one need to check something in the old versions.

I don't know, but you can probably test for yourself in the emulator. Turn on the frame counter and compare which gives you control faster. My guess would be, that grabbing as soon as the vertical jump speed is less than the climbing speed, is the best. That would work under the assumption that the 21-frame rule kicks in when the screen fades out and not when you grab the wine. But this is only a guess.

principal = the boss over a school, and I'd rather not live life according to him principle = a guideline after which you choose to live your life I quite like the word e-penis though. I question the existence of any and all supernatural beings, but especially that there should be only one. After all, if we are going to trust ancient knowledge, the belief that there are many gods is more ancient than the one that there is only one. Additionally, my shoulder hurts and I want a cookie. Okay bye.

I might be remembering wrong, but I think Tails receives nothing from the first set of diamonds, and Super Tails (shoes + invulnerability + birds) after the second set. Only Sonic and Knuckles have hyper forms.

Baxter> Is Primer any good? I haven't seen it, but the rest of those movies were also in my list. Well, it wouldn't be in my top-movies list if it wasn't any good, now would it. :P Seriously though, if you like complicated storylines and unpredictable scripts, Primer is a real gem.

Hi proveren, and welcome! There's already a topic about this game: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2217 It's a good idea to search for old topics before creating new ones. We don't mind resurrection of old topics for games. Zoizite started a run, but put it on hold and now haven't been seen for a good time. I suggest you start one yourself, now that you have something to measure against. :) I added this game to List Of Ideas until it gets done: http://tasvideos.org/ListOfIdeas.html

Clever: - Fight Club - Memento - Lock Stock - Snatch - Primer - Matrix Emotional: - Fucking Åmål ("Show me love" overseas) - Amelie from Montmartre I can remember liking The Mark of Zorro (1940) immensely as a kid, but I haven't seen it in more than 15 years... I really wish I could track down a copy somehow.

In my opinion: - The wobbling is highly esthetically unpleasing. - I didn't like the decision to delay finishing to get smaller bonuses. It gives the wrong impression of how fast you really finished the level, as well as looking stupid. - I think input length only should be minimized as long as it doesn't delay the completion of the game. Use as much input as needed, but not less. - The bonus stages themselves are okay, but slowing down for the rings and taking less damage is not. All in all I'd rather see the Emeralds skipped. This seems like a rather negative review of an overall outstanding first submission, but all of those can be rectified for an all emerald run, except of course for the last point. I think you would have much more success with an attempt to obsolete JXQ's run, but I can imagine voting Yes to an improved all-emerald run also. Just not this one.

>I still don't get how frame advance works. I mean, it takes like 4 frames before the screen is redrawn and if i press a button usually nothing happens when i skip ahead a few frames? LIke if i try to shoot it usually doesn't shoot at all and if it does, it happens like 30 frames later(After pressing the shoot button in like 10 diffrent frames). You need to hold down the keys you want to press, and then press frame advance once, while still holding them. From what's happening to you it sounds like you press the buttons you want once, and then press frame advance after letting go of them.
