Wow, nice combos. I didn't know about those at all. Especially how you interrupt some moves. Isn't more than 5 hits possible with Otouto? Perhaps you were going for maximum damage.. I made a playaround for this game if you are interested. It can be found here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2998 It plays through super difficulty and a 3vs1 match.

Well, check out if you can improve his Snes movie instead, that would have a lot higher chances of getting published at least. That is unless you really only want to make Genesis games.

>Nice idea moozooh, but unless this panel is transparent it would sometimes disturb if you need to watch the values all the time and still want to see the full screen. Only if you play fullscreen. Do most people do that? I know I never do that in any emulator...

It's a warp. If you beat the first boss (green monster) using only the mouse, the game warps you ahead a fixed amount of levels. A movie using this should be labeled using warps. That's the only one I know of at least. Are there other (random?) warps as well?

Famtasia doesn't have a frame counter (unless you go to some lengths to hack savestates), so you'll get measurements which are about as accurate from the AVI. Edited: Also, good luck! :)

Small request: Console reset (Ctrl-Shift-R) does not end movie, but restarts it. I frequently have to switch county settings and reset game and then select the same movie again.

You should consider using the search feature instead of expecting other people to do your research.

pirate_sepiroth: That was completely unhelpful. deepbluevibes>... at least two or so judges, ... have already said they would vote yes if i just optimized it some I'm the only judge who has posted in this topic and I hope that this isn't your interpretation of what I have said so far. I still think that a no-modifiers run of this game would make the best movie. That doesn't mean that I'm not interested in giving you advice on how to improve your movie. Others might like the format.

In the previous submission for this game, it was considered too repetitive for a TAS. Also, it was 11:31, this is almost twice as long. Is there any reason I shouldn't reject this outright?

I think a best-of video would be nice, suggestions for good parts are in this topic: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3718 Also you can check the rating to see which movies have the highest entertainment ratings. Also, don't forget to put clear disclaimers that the games are played with slowdown and savestates, and a link to WhyAndHow.html here.

>1) what the heck do you guys use to render videos in gens? You mean the output from Gens is screwed up? No idea why that happens or how to fix it, but it seems people have interpreted your question differently. For 2), GIF animations, at least for FCEU and Snesx9, can be exported directly from a hacked version which some people here have. I don't know about Gens.

I think the same as last time, that there are a lot of obvious optimizations that you don't make, and that having extra restrictions on your run isn't an excuse to be sloppy. I won't bother listing them since you don't seem to be interested in fixing them. Moreover, against the water boss, you "kill" some missiles, which is not necessary for game completion. This interferes with your pacifict restriction, I think. I tried to get back over from the platform where you stopped in your movie, but like you I couldn't find any way to do it.

Three things: A) I agree with everything Kyrsimys said, 2) This topic should be split to not detract attention from the WIP by goroh, and III) Since the Japanese version is allowed, and goroh prefers working with that one, there's not a lot that can be done about it.

I'm watching it now. Suggestions: - While you duck for the shuriken hailstorm in the first level, crawl forward - On the last enemy before you enter the caves, you could have moved forward more during your jump over him - When you jump over the small ledges in the entrance to the caves, you don't need to jump kick, the landing animation will not play during low jumps - Is it impossible to slash the samurais while standing on the ground (not jumping over the energy waves)? - I don't like the twiching, but that's personal taste. - You did a lot more hits the second round against the boss samurai than you did the first - First rope climbing area was not optimal (obvious because you hit the right wall, should have fallen earlier) - Wall climbing was suboptimal (you lost height before grabbing the wall). You shouldn't somersault after climbing a wall since your forward velocity decreases then. (the accepted version does this too) - You can jump over the chasm before the boss with the somersault, no climbing is needed. - Going trough the charging boss was cool, but jumping over him is quicker (the accepted version makes a similar mistake) - Non-equal number of hits on the yellow ninja in the horse level. - Final hit on him could be more to the left (earlier). - Nice tricks in the elevator. - You didn't enter the boss room as soon as possible. - About second boss (and others too): isn't the slicing more effective than the jumpkicks? - After getting trough the brains jumping out of green canisters and falling down, you should jumpkick to go right at the same time. So I'd say it needs a lot of refinement, but it could be an interesting concept.

>When you're doing frame advance, the movement will activate on the third frame. This is normal. Every game I've tried so far has a two-frame delay (or three depending on how you count) between button and action. >I didn't see this in any other videos, if it's there, I didn't mean to steal it from there; just discovered it on my own. I've done the floating running too, but I did it just by tapping forward at some intervals (which I don't remember). >Also, if this run was slower (not by a lot, just some) than the run that's currently being uploaded, would it stand a strong chance of being denied acceptance, even *though* it played under much harsher settings, thus explaining the slower time? With my judging hat on: that depends a lot more on how entertaining people would think it was (votes), than the actual difference in time. I haven't seen your movie yet (because the gaming computer is taken at the moment) but I'll be back with comments when I have.

I was about to write something like this in the previous post, but I didn't: I don't feel qualified to judge this movie because I'm not familiar with this SM hack (and the last time moozooh convinced me to try one, all I got was irritated from getting lost and dying all the time). So I hope someone else can take this one.

Bob A>Why hasn't this been published yet? Because no judge has looked at it and made a decision. You can pester them in the IRC channel and try to force one to take a look at it. Kyrsimys: If by "this hack" you mean Metroid Legacy, it's already added to the list of accepted hacks: http://tasvideos.org/Rules.html#hacked_and_homebrew_games_are_not_allowed_

I don't think anyone would mind if you made a TAS music video in that style. :) All the material is already here for you to download.

Bisqwit>The rule exists only to avoid version conflicts, ... Is this the only reason? I thought it had more to do with the reason we don't allow other hacked games: they are not authentic and haven't been officially released. I think if someone has released a translations patch into public domain, they have no right to come whining if someone actually uses it. Kyrsimys>IMO it was a grave mistake to do MM3 with the Japanese version, it set a bad precedent. I agree with this. The important thing is of course not to have as short a movie as possible, but as efficient playing as possible.

>You don't have cameras either when you play with some friends. That's true. But how is that relevant? Informal ice hockey games don't have cameras either. But professional games do.

>And they kick it sometimes! The players in football (formerly known as soccer) use their hands sometimes! Perhaps we should call it handcube, since they aren't using their hands that much to throw an object which is not a cube. Makes about as much sense to me.

What I want: - SRAM and/or savestate included in moviefile - ROM checksum and name - All options possibly causing desynch saved - Country setting (and that Gens defaults to this contry when playing back the movie) - One byte for the number of players - One byte per player for the type of controller (3-button, 6-button, etc...) - Hex-edit friendly (i.e. definitely fixed number of bytes per frame, preferably fixed location where they appear) - A lot of extra space in the header I think you have most if not all of this covered already. If you want to do something a lot more fancy, that's fine with me, but like IdeaMagnate said fancy ideas have a smaller likelyhood of actually being implemented. As long as the stuff above is in, I'm happy.

I'd be more interested in run trough the game without extra modifiers (and I've been planning to do one foreever but never got around to doing it), but I can't really say until I've seen an example. So go ahead and try out a level. Rainbow jump... is that the official name for the somersault or something?

The reasons I think football (*1) is annoying to watch: - They haven't invented stopwatches yet and continue to add some arbitrary time at the end instead of stopping the clock like any sane sport - They refuse to use cameras and check replays and as a result, the judging is usually substandard with everyone getting angry. I also find hockey more interesting to watch, but I'm not a big sports fan in any case. ------ (*1) While I'm in aggressive mode, I would like to point out how incredibly stupid it is to call football soccer and rugby football. American Football: A) Is not played with the feet, and B) Does not use a ball. Therefore, I am now making decreeing that in English, soccer will henceforth be called football like it is in the rest of the world's languages, and American football will be called American rugby. Restistance is futile. Written objections can be left three copies signed by independent linguists, next to the document shredder in room 911.

I agree, I was just hoping that there was some magical way you could fit it in that I had overlooked. (I'm not that good at programming really, so it's not impossible.)
