>in fact, some durations even 'uncrit' the attack If this is the case the reverse is probably true too. Have you tried getting a critical by holding the button longer on a hit that usually isn't a critical? That could cut waiting times even more if it worked.

I've seen it, but only recently. They could really have chosen a better opponent than the guy that teleports (the name escapes me at the moment), and a sign for the password would have been cool... The music is good though.

>Why should anyone make a game not on the list when this will happen? Well, that's always a risk you're taking. Even when the game is on that list, it might turn out to be mighty uninteresting to watch. Bad games can sometimes make for interesting runs, but more often they don't. And the choice of game is a very important part in making a interesting movie. If a game doesn't allow for anything impressive to be done, the movie just won't be any entertaining. I should mention that I haven't watched this one.

Just chiming in with the rest of the crowd; do 1) and/or 4), with 1) being my suggestion for the first attempt.

Well, you can offer a separate link to the subtitles file, which media players can handle (even WMP). Small sidetrack: I think the introductory subtitles should be burned into the video so to speak, because otherwise they are probably too easy to remove (which is the argument for having them as subtitles instead of a splash screen in the first place). Seeing how much trouble people (me included) seem to have getting MKVs playing correctly, I think fully moving to them is a bad idea. Whatever the movie format will be, how about my original suggestion about specifying the subtitle format and letting people submit their own commentary for their runs? EDIT: ambiguity

Noone other than the submitter can really be reasonably responsible for making such subtitles. So I suggest that we describe the format in one of the documents about submitting/making a movie, and make it clear that players can submit their own suggestions for subtitles. Either pasted as text in the submission (that way everyone will see them, but there will be more clutter), or we start to accept multiple files in the submitted zip files.

I can agree with josh l. Having your work stuck in limbo forever can be disheartening. I just recently got promoted to judge, so this weekend I'll try to do something the oldest submission and go on a judging spree. Now, I think this discussion should be taken elsewhere and not in this submission thread.

As everyone who has ever taken a Japanese class knows, they consist of three kinds of nerds: 1) anime/manga nerds 2) martial arts nerds 3) video game nerds The simple reason being that a lot of video games are made in Japan; Nintendo, SEGA, Sony plus a bucketload of video game producers being japanese companies and all. A lot of games never make it out of there so the only way to play them is by knowing Japanese. That's my take on it anyway.

>Truncated: Flying is faster than hopping. Hmm, I thought they were actually the same speed but I must have misremembered then. Never mind that idea then.

>The plan for now is to follow the same route Viper7 did, except skipping Yoshi's Island 1 and YSP for later and finish Donut Plains 2b and Donut Secret 1b the first time around. Correct? There is a green block which is in the way when you enter the boss room in one of the castles. I think the green switch can be taken later without adding extra steps on the world map. I'm just repeating what I have read, it's all in this enourmous topic somewhere. With the new running and hopping trick, you don't need to skip YI1 and YSP for later.

I don't think there will be a problem as long as you don't submit it in the "As fast as possible" category, list it as a playaround which focuses on entertainment while being reasonably fast instead. At least that's what I would do. What's so problematic with 4-1?

>In any case, is it just me, or are there lots of people here with Japanese as a second/third/... language? Rather interesting... ^^ Dromiceius commented on that earlier in the thread... >What do you expect? We're nerds. :)

>It still amazes me the job that angerfist can do without using Frame advanced. I don't think this is true anymore, but I guess Angerboy can clear that up for us. But the movie was very nice. Voting yes.

>Make sure to set the frame skip to 0 That made all the difference from when I watched it the first time. Why does 2 seem to be the default? >Double spin: This is when a bright blue slash/shield thing briefly circles Sonic, which can be done during any normal jump. It took me a little while to figure out what this really does. It increases the effective radius of Sonic's ball, letting him hit bosses or get nudged by corners slightly earlier than would happen otherwise. I think it's called insta-shield, and its point is to make Sonic invincible temporarily. At least that's the way it works in Sonic 3. In any case, spectacular movie. Looks fantastic. Yes yes.

Hmm, well? Feeling motivated to start yet? I would LOVE to see this game being made. Since it rocks, and I've actually played it as opposed to the rest of N64 games that are being talked about. And there are loads of cool tricks and micromanagement possible. How about now? :)

Just saying that one of my brothers claimed to have done this as well (without knowing that you are actually supposed to do it later). I thought he had just used a PLEASExx code and mistakenly assumed that it hadn't done anything.

I can't wait until this is finished... so that you can start working on a any-% or 100% run. ;) Seriously though, this too looks like it could be an interesting variant.

Whoo, a reply! The later bosses take some more effort to mow down, but yeah, not a lot of them will be more than a few seconds. At least there are spectacular graphics (explosions), and to anyone who has played it before, knowing how hard the game really is might help the entertainment too. I finished 10 levels so far, but I might have to redo 2 due to a miscalculation with the weapon refills. :/

>Здравствуй, Транкейтед. В следующий раз не забудь поставить мягкие знаки после букв «т» в слове «чуть-чуть». ;) Вообще, хороший у вас тут форум, мне нравится. Гррр. Дурацкий мягкий знак. >:( Этот форум мне тоже нравится. >Saturn & Bisqwit Heh, thank you I guess. :) I'm a bit of a language nerd probably... >What? You hate Kanji? I love it. Yup, for reasons I think I already told you once. Sure I think they are fascinating, but needlessly complex, impractical and waaay too time-consuming to learn.

I removed "Ignores semi-important goals" (because I couldn't understand what that would be) and added "Manipulates luck" (hammer brothers). If any of those were wrong, feel free to change them back. And an awesome movie, JXQ, I've been following the whole time.

>So, are there tools/techniques that help in determining, as in the above example, which path to walk to avoid monsters totally? I find it hard to believe that it is all done by trial and error. The Dragon Warrior video was special because Acmlm (who did the now obsoleted version) wrote a program to predict battle outcomes by simulating them, without having to test them. Bisqwit wrote a bot which tested huge numbers of button combinations for weapon refills in his Mega Man 1 movie. Other than that I think all games on this site used pure trial and error, however hard that may be to believe.

I speak and write English fluently. ----- To add something to the discussion, I found Japanese a lot easier to learn than Russian, despite Russian being a lot closer to my native language. A lot of the vocabulary (especially nouns) are "for free", but the grammar is horrible. I still can't wrap my head around verb aspects or cases.

>Manipulates luck. Don't forget that! ... >By the way, the movie description should include "manipulates luck". That's weird. I changed it the first time you said it. Does this mean someone changed it back because they didn't agree with it? Or didn't it just show up because of serverside caching? (I can't seem to find the category changes in the history.) Just asking.
