If you check the box for read-only, you can load any savestate during movie playback to jump to that point. Very handy. The fullscreen thing sounds like a bug. I never use fullscreen, so I wouldn't know. Maybe you can load your roms, movies and savestates in windowed mode and switch as soon as the movie starts?

I don't like the way toggle buttons are handled. It should be an option for every controller. There isn't really any point in using both at the same time, plus you have to reassign a lot of keys every time you want to use it. And whenever that option is toggled, I want to see what buttons currently pressed. Also, the frame counter has stopped working for me. I can reassign it to any key but nothing happens when I try to turn it on. Some other keys are also working differently, but correct, i.e. the difference between frameskip and actual speed. I have a feeling it has to do with non-english keyboards.

I agree that there isn't much point in starting for real until the desync issues are solved. But don't give up on that happening yet, we're close. Everybody could watch nitsuja's video, even you - just find a way to do the same as nitsuja. Copy his configuration file in the worst case. I'm thinking maybe the movie file should include sound settings. At least the ROM checksum should be in there. Let's all hold hands and sing "We shall overcome". :)

Okay, getting better. I have the same ROM as Highness. Using Snes9x-improved with WIP core, turning off Volume Envelope, turning on Generate Sample Data, I could play nitsuja's file with no problem. Highness' movie still desyncs.

Heh. Red Scarlet in that thread: "Just wait for the bisqwit guys, you know they'll have a coup de gras with this. Hop to it, Ek." There we go.

Yep... I waited for several weeks hoping someone else would write a description for my movie, but gave up and wrote it myself. I hope it's somewhat objective. I write descriptions for all the videos I watch if there isn't one yet. I think more editors could do the same. It isn't that difficult. When Bisqwit handled all the movies himself, he wrote descriptions for all of them. Suggestions for descriptions could be posted in the submission thread after (or before) it's accepted. We just need to make it a tradition. Perhaps a blurb somewhere.

I get the exact same behaviour as Nitsuja for Highness's file. What's worse is that nitsuja's sync test desyncs for me as well. Picks Shang, beats Baraka, fatality, fights reptile for a while, then pulls a missed slash with the back+punch and gets pummeled.

It works like usual with 1.43 WIP as long as Sound Envelope thingie is turned off. Before that I had desync in the same place all the time. (Nevermind if it works or not on other versions.) Are you recording with this option on or off? I liked the new progress very much. I love how you fly with the shell - it looks like Mario is flying by flapping his cape. I hope you can get one of the "grab two objects at once" in there too.

You only have to watch the triforce animation the first time. After that you can skip it with start, so restarting should be quick business. It should be used directly after coming out of the secret passage to warp to Link's house, for example, because it's closer to the first dungeon. Probably after visiting Sahasrahla or whatever his name is, to go to town and get the book too.

Really, I mean it. :) Any progress on this? You know everyone wants to see you do it.

>and a way to set all the keys for the next frame without having to hold them all at the same time while hitting frame advance, so I'll see about these sometime. I've talked about this before. Just make all the keys like caps lock. Turn them on or off with a press. Advance a few frames, change which keys are pressed. And repeat for several hours. If Gens gets this feature you can expect some new projects from me. :)

Which version of snes9x was this recorded in? I'm getting desyncs in both WIP and zeldafix3, with VEHR turned off. I'll get back to planning as soon as I can watch the test properly. At the moment it's time for bed.

>In fact, I have a question for Truncated and maybe Omni: how were you able to get Zeldafix version 3 to even play the movie file? Mine gets a "wrong format" error message because the save state in the movie doesn't match up with the new format. Which movie file are you talking about? Hum, that's weird. I just open (what I think is) snes9x zeldafix ver3, open rom file, movie play forest4b.smv with read-only. Works just like usual, except for the desync.

At 0:04, you don't need to wait for the skull to come down to continue, you can jump up. But I'm guessing you know this and it is somehow faster to use the skull because of the spindash glitch.

With nitsuja's Zeldafix version 3, I get the exact same problem as Omni above, desynch at second time in ghost house. 1.43 WIP works all the way, as long as Volume height option is OFF (otherwise desynch at Forest 4b). I have no idea what business it had being on. So, the video: you already know about the small stop, and you already said the only idea i had wouldn't work. How about just before the big door, you slide on the ground for a while which is slower. How about spinjumping out of the flying pose and run the last part instead? Also, I think you should include these small and fun little clips of you doing weird stuff to the mario engine in the submission text as links.

You have to specify how many and which controllers your video uses. It's done when you select File-Record Movie. Remember to put it from reset while you're at it.

Aww... that's too bad. Good luck with Vice. I'll be waiting for this one. Let me know if you need any help with hex editing the movies, if that's what's putting you off.

How about sound playback rate? Some games work better with 44100.

I meant the WIP. I'll go and get times, hold on. EDIT: At 3:04 you reach the goal with shieldguy and swordguy at different times. Erik jumpguy is already standing at the goal. You could have switched from Erik earlier and switched back to him and swordguy when shieldguy reached the goal. Same thing at 4:52, but with roles reversed. You could have left both shieldguy and swordguy further from the goal and started moving them when Erik comes close enough. It's not much here though since both of them have to move on the time Erik approaches. The enemy might complicate things. 6:14 possibly same thing. You have only one guy running at the end when you could have two. 10:06 same thing. I was wrong about the elevator though. Everything is looking a lot better than the last version. And I welcome less wobbling.

A lot of times the red-haired runner-jumper whatshisname reaches the goal before the others. When the two others move at the same time after that, but one is ahead of the other, you should stop before the goal with whatshisname, switch early, start running with the others, and when one of them is at the goal switch to move the lag-behind and whatshisname. If that was unintelligible, sorry. Say "you are stupid" and I'll try to write a better explanation. There was one level where whatshisname started riding an elevator at the start of the level, and the others stood still. Couldn't they move meanwhile? At least one of them, if not both, I mean.

I thought nitsuja decided that forward speed was somewhat lower when pressing two directions. You hug the walls with diagonals when you should be pressing only one direction. For example at 3626, 3674, around 4390, 5210, 5776, 5838, 6343, 6374, 7425, 8308, 8334, 8377, 8461, 8709, 8757, 8964, 9162, 9213, 11241, well you get the idea. This is just until you pick up Zelda. The lamp doesn't hurt normal enemies, so probably it's the same for the two you mentioned. The safest thing is to check, though.

You have to go out of your way to pick up extra rings to activate the bonus rounds, you lose all your speed when you enter them, and there's no way to speed them up (also almost no way to make them interesting). So no. Just no. If you really have to do it, I'd suggest using the level select code and play them all in a row.

Sort of. In Mystic Defender: genei = phantom, vision, illusion In Castle of Illusion: fushigi = wonder, miracle, strange, mystery, marvel, curiosity Castle of Illusion is Castle of Illusion even in the Japanese version. Fushigi only appears in the text below the title.
