Any% isn't as interesting as Red Line, but it's still Star Fox 64, one of my favorite games of all time [...] At the same time, I do feel like you could have made Sector Z at least a little bit more interesting. This TAS does not even play along to the music like many RTA runners do. Aside from this minor criticism, it's still a "yes" vote from me! And maybe, maybe, we can see a Red Line TAS one day? Pretty please...
Yah I recognize there's a lack of my usual flair for most of the run (outside of the stuff that looks neat by virtue of being fast). Now that I have the backbone of a speedrun to work off of I'm contemplating strategies for a 2k% run. I'm curious why you think red line is the more interesting route. It strips away the most interesting parts of this run (Corneria Boss, Katina Skip, and Bolse) and replaces them with... more levels where I just boost through.

I watched the any% TAS, but I couldn't replicate some of the moves (especially in 7-1). The score is the same, by the way. Also, if I'll want to submit the next version, do I make a brand new submission or update this one (probably the former)?
Please do not be in a rush to submit. You just somehow saved 43 seconds in one day?? These things often take weeks of work to make a quality run, and Mario games tend to undergo much more scrutiny due to their popularity. And yes, when you are sure it’s good you would make a new submission.

I decided to do another thing! I guess my version of 'letting this game go and move on' is simply slowing down and doing 1 level every 5 months. Here's Venom 1 Link to video Definitely a lot more hits than I thought on this level. It took a lot of trial and error finding out which parts of the walls were good to shoot bombs over. Possible Improvements - I really wish I had a better camera angle because there are sometimes enemies that fly behind you off-screen the entire time from when they spawned behind the side walls. The enemies on this level feel a lot more resilient because they always wait to fall to the ground before exploding instead of bursting in air. While this is a fine touch by the devs, this means a significant number of enemies can de-spawn off screen behind you before they can give you the point. A lot of effort went into making sure I was awarded every last point, but I could have missed a few. What's next? Speed Run 2k% Speed Run (getting 2000 points and still beating the game as fast as possible) Bolse Most likely in that order, too. So what's the deal with Bolse? In a nutshell; camera angles. The major scoring trick on this level involves shooting at spawn locations above you and off screen. This would simply require an unreasonable amount of trial and error and time and effort to optimize. So unless I can find a helpful camera angle, this level will remain in purgatory.*** (Now technically I could just farm 999 points off the shielded enemies before the barrier goes down, but that's also a lot of effort for an awful result lol)

So if I understand this correctly, when peppy and Pigma are the only two left I need to actually hit pigma which will occasionally cause peppy to start chasing him? This is neat if true, but also a big headache. I brought pigma down to 1 health very early on, and firing one less shot to keep his health up changes the rng for the rest of the level. This is a problem because it was basically pure luck to get Star wolf in the way of enemy fire so that he wouldn’t be the last one left. I’m currently working on it, so we’ll see. I hope.

Your teammates can only ever shoot at their Star Wolf rival.
I wish I could actually see this happen lol

Another thing that can happen to Star Wolf members is if their pathing leads them into one of the pillars with Andross on them
Neat. I didn’t realize there were pillars with Andross’s face and that they did anything different. I guess by chance every time they only went through a normal pillar and didn’t explode.

Try quickly having Wolf, Leon, and Andrew all killed, and shoot Pigma so that Peppy instead chases Pigma. Maybe it can save the last point.
I’ve set up this exact scenario in one of my files. I spent hours trying to get Peppy to fire at Pigma to no avail. Even when I can manipulate the rare opportunity that pigma fly in front of peppy he still just does not fire a single shot. It’s been said, though, that falco is the most aggressive ally. I would probably have to have Falco and Leon as the final two left to have a chance at this. But I’m not re-doing Sector Z and Area 6. Maybe next year : )

You’re going to have to be a lot more descriptive of what your trouble is. Have you seen all of the Monopoly TASes currently on the site? There is a lot of information available in their descriptions.

Success! Total score now down to 16. Just one away from the theoretical minimum.

I would try switching cores to see if there’s any difference. It could also be too high of a resolution you’re trying to play it on. Some more info could help such as what version of bizhawk you’re using and the exact title of the rom you’re playing.

I was recently given a small bookshelf from a co-worker. It’s made entirely out of particle board with that plastic veneer finish. The shelves were very bowed downwards, so I took a clamp and tried to bend them back to normal. After a couple days of being bent in the opposite direction they were looking a lot better, but I decided it wasn’t good enough and I ended up snapping one of the shelves when trying to re-clamp it. Now particle board is practically impossible to fix once broken. So I didn’t, lol. I threw the broken shelf out and bought a smooth piece of worked wood. I learned how to stain and finish wood for the first time on this project, and I’m super happy with the result. The stain is nearly identical to the color of the plastic which makes it not stand out.

Wow, I can’t believe how close the final score was O.O Congrats TwistedEye! I also can’t believe I lost a 60,000 point lead in the last 50 seconds. I thought I achieved the right balance of ghosts and bonus items, but it seems the items are just a little bit more valuable than I thought. It was a fun time all around. Thanks eien86 for hosting

That sounds like a lot of work (over 1000 submissions to update). And tedious work. And diving deeply into each submission again (because submission notes are frequently lacking important information and flare). And creative writing is not a universal skill. But I do see the desire to improve the site. Hopefully you can find someone to help you in this endeavor. If I may suggest an alternative moving forward, an optional extra field on the submission page where the author can write in their own publication description. It can even have a 'Prefill Publication Notes' button that will paste your entire example above. Of course, publishers will have final say on what gets written.

There are two mushrooms in that level, and unfortunately neither of them are useful. The grandma is always moving forward, so she will leave the mushrooms behind before gaining any meaningful height. And on the first mushroom, you can drop her from a gap from high above but not in any way that ultimately saves time. -EDIT- The .bk2 provided does not sync for me. I assume this is due to accuracy improvements on the BNES core over the last 9 years (but the Start input to move past the intro menu is straight up missing and not just out of place). I had to re-sync the loading times for each level (Using 2.9.1) User movie #https://tasvideos.org/UserFiles/Info/638946471904776222

Is there a new movie being worked on right now? The current TAS is 20 years old and iirc the RTA WR is over 10 minutes faster than this with a completely different route.
The current run is a 2p any% run. There just isn't much interest in that category. And when you do some digging into current tas records of this game, it gets rather intimidating at how optimized you have to be just to match current records (let alone beat them). I found this all out while attempting to de-throne this movie myself. These are mostly all the main records out there. Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes are 100% videos, but hot damn are they good. Spring Breeze - I don't think a single frame can be saved here. Mugg is too good. I'm going to plug in my own attempt at this stage. You'll note that I didn't choose Jet, and that's because I couldn't even copy the current route (the clipping is too precise). Heck, I even lose time at the bomb mini-boss. mugg manipulates the earliest possible bomb throw (in addition to the other dozen rng manipulations up to this point). The most I could do was simply show off something different. Partial Gourmet Race - I couldn't find a normal any% tas of all three tracks, so I just posted a crazy glitched route for the 3rd race as a possible improvement Dyna Blade - I couldn't find a stand-a-lone tas of dynablade (although I heard of one being worked on in the kss discord) Revenge of Meta Knight - Looks incredibly optimized Great Cave Offensive - 100% completion - Looks incredibly optimized Milky Way Wishes - 100% completion - Looks incredibly optimized Arena - Not required for any%, but looks incredibly optimized for in-game time (i.e. the timer at the end), and I wanted to show it off. The first boss you fight can be manipulated, but I believe the boss order after that is firmly set in stone.
