In TAStudio neither Ctrl+Z nor Ctrl+Y will autofire when held down. I have to press it for each change I want to undo or redo. Also in TAStudio using Shift+click to select a range of cells doesn't work when using .tasproj files from previous versions. I have to export them to .bk2 and then reopen them in a new .tasproj file when it prompts me to. Only then will the shift+click work.

Because Drag and Drop is far better than 1. Export to .bk2 2. Add to Archive 3. Open Tasvideos.org 4. Load submission page 5. Select from dialogue box 6. Copy/paste the link back into discord ... for every change

Here's a map to help visualize things and to put actual names to levels. The arrows marked in red show the path that we took.

Lol, Cyorter actually found out about the pit warp, too, but it seemed like there was no way to get 70 coins in a timely manner. I guess we never checked what values the treasure boxes actually gave >.< Congrats. Especially on finding the other route choices

To prevent abuse, Lurkers can't vote in polls. You need to at least have a minimum number of posts. I would tell you the number, but given how that information can't be found anywhere it's probably intentionally hidden.

Huh, didn't realize this discussion was going on or else I would have chimed in earlier. I'll be (would have been) the first to admit to some surprise at being nominated. I may have forgotten that I even submitted a TAS this past year :p If someone else really finds amazement from my work, then that makes me happy. It definitely did take effort to coordinate both characters. As far as I personally feel about Firestriker, I missed opportunities to create true art and fantastic super-human play on pretty much every level. There is so much downtime between both characters that I relied on the shortness of the levels to cover up. There were also several parts that I thought were 'good enough' and just pushed on. For these reasons I do agree with Aran's objection. I didn't put in a level of work that I'd consider award-worthy :/ That TAS was mainly practice in 2-player for an upcoming project. And you can rest assured that I'm not going to roll over so easily for 2020 :)

A few questions: 2. Pass boss glitch stages, is it necessary to start with 50000 points?
2. Yes, it's necessary. We wait for a few frames before we start the stage to get 50.000 points. It takes a lot of time after you beat the stage with a larger amount of points.
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the levels where you skip the boss and the score count never happens. Specifically; Iceman, Gutsman, and Bombman. I'm curious, too.

So, a couple things... maybe I missed it, but has there been a clear consensus that max score is the only valid completion criteria? Secondly, it keeps getting brought up that there needs to be proof that the score is truly maximum. Where are the guidelines for this? I know it got mentioned in the previous judgment of this submission, but I believe that was by mistake. Max score had only ever been an allowable goal for moons tier, but it was set to be published in Vault so that shouldn’t have been mentioned at all in the notes. It’s great if you want to definitively prove that it’s the maximum. I just don’t know why that would be required.

Its purpose is to fulfill the site's goal of being a TAS records site, and a central repository of tool-assisted literature and information.
electricslide, I think I can understand most of your frustration with this TAS's judgment based on this quote. I still have problems myself with certain games not being publishable no matter what. There have been attempts to fix this in the past (and I will let you search the forums for all that information), but you just have to accept that for now there are strict guidelines for each tier. The following quote from the Vault Movie Rules is now the filter that has to be applied to this run:
Vault Movie Rules wrote:
This tier contains speed-based movies that don't have much entertainment value, but still represent meaningful tool-assisted speedrun records. Game choice is tightly limited. Vault rules filter out games that don't hold much weight when tool-assistance is applied in accordance with the TASing guidelines on optimization. Vault needs clear cuts, so whenever something can not be clearly distinguished, such a movie gets rejected.
Let's start with the 'meaningful' aspect. Scratching out in every event would make this fastest completion, but it turns into something that a human could easily do unassisted which in turn makes it a trivial game to TAS which means it gets rejected for not being meaningful. This point was implied but never specifically pointed out. The last line in the quote is emphasized in order to give a bit more weight and reasoning behind any lengthy discussions. There needs to be certainty that this game does or does not fit into the current guidelines. It sets a bad precedent to accept a game just because it feels right, especially when feos has quoted guidelines that specifically say it should be rejected. If it happens to fall into some truly gray area, then real (and non-hostile) discussion needs to take place on how the rules can be added to or modified to make it work. Right now we are still trying to define what entails full completion for this game (which at this point seems to fall into a gray area?).
Maximum points wrote:
Maximum points or score is allowed as a full-completion category under the following conditions: ...There is no other way to define full completion for the game...
electricslide, this is the crux of the problem. Maximum score criteria can only be applied as a last resort. We need clear reasoning that there is no meaningful way to define full completion, first. @feos - What is the improvement you were pm'd?

In Pole Vault you can only get 957 at max, so either way it feels incomplete if we define winning as getting 1000 on each event.
That's...... odd. It feels like that's just a programming error, then. (Especially since the in-game record is by far the least accurate record when compared to the real-world event (even in 1984 which then it was 5.83m)). Maybe they just couldn't program the physics correctly. DrD2k9 did his due diligence in attempting to get above 1000 in pole vault, so then scratching out as soon as possible seems fine. This is something that would be perfectly acceptable if it was explained in the submission notes.

So there does exist a game manual In the Scoring section it says that achieving 1000+ points in any event will award you with a musical tribute. So while the ending doesn't change based on performance, the content does. There is also even an (unofficial?) Club of Champions which awards you Gold status at 10,000 points or more. Since the game does recognize some form of high score, I believe that unlocking the musical tribute in every event can count as full completion. That being said (unfortunately) I don't think this game falls under Max Score rules anymore. I think this run would have to be re-done in order to get to 1000 points as fast as possible in each event and then scratching out as soon as possible afterwards.

It's so much more satisfying to see all the events completed rather than scratched out. (but it's still a 'Meh' vote for me) I also really appreciate the comparison to real world records and how this game tried to match them.

I see Tetris in the name, and I expect crazy things. This just delivered lots of pauses and slow level transitions. No vote on entertainment for me.

If people beat this TAS, what would happen? Then TheWinslinator will still hold the record and when the framewar ends, the people will end up with a lot of unnecessary rerecords for a puzzle that's mostly caused without writing a route.
What record does TheWinslinator hold? and why doesn't this TAS beat it?? Why got offended when people actually use tools to make a tool-assisted speedrun???

It seem like there's a whole lot of discussion on telling people HOW to rate movies and not how to get people TO rate movies. You can apply all the metrics you want to the system, but they won't be effective if there are still only 3 people rating any given movie (if that). One way to get a few more people to rate movies is to include a special note after they vote for a submission. Something to the effect of, "Please remember to rate this submission after publication." This is just a small push to remind people that ratings are still important to the site. I realize that the number of people that vote on a submission is still small, but if it can increase the number of ratings per movie by even 1 then that would be significant at this point. Another possibility I would like to throw in is that since one of the problems is to actually get people to come back after publication, I would like to see the rating system available to individuals after they place a vote. BUT (inb4 this gets brought up) it needs to be absolutely clear that no one (not even the judges) can view these ratings until after it's been published. I recognize there's still a risk of ratings becoming inflated with this method, but I'd still like to hear thoughts about it.

No worries. ACE is pretty easy in this game. It'll just be two months of triggering it the fastest. It'll also take me a while to get into it, as well.

I am by no means here to break records, show off, or anything of that nature.
Hello DrakeekarD, and welcome to TASvideos! Unfortunately, breaking records and showing off are basically the only two goals of the site :(
DrakeekarD wrote:
I am more into the entertaining aspect....using glitches and bugs that don't really mess with the game itself.
Entertainment is actually part of the whole 'showing off' aspect. There are a whole genre of TAS's that are dedicated to just entertainment and not speed. They are called Play Arounds. Frankly, we need more of these, but they almost exclusively use game breaking glitches. Because of this it sounds to me like you are a fan of the glitchless speed runs. There certainly is room for these runs on this site, but game choice is everything and you will absolutely have to go for speed. There is no such thing as an entertaining glitchless playaround.

I did it in one sitting...
People spend weeks and months making a single TAS. Using tools is a slow process. There are very few games that are worthy of a submission that can be done in only one sitting (and they certainly won't be entertaining).
