I am disturbed by just how much I -LOVE- the way this game looks! For a game based on a television show (and comic book, relatively speaking) it is extremely high quality. It reminds me of other platformers made for the western audience like Spider Man and X-men, where the animation quality is just not there. As for the run itself. It's fast, efficient, and very entertaining. Despite the game being impossible to "lose", that doesn't seem to be much of an issue when the goal is pure speed. Sure, any moron (or child) can beat the game in an hour - but can they do it in under 7 minutes? Easy Yes vote.

I found this run quite... refreshing. There's just something about a speedrun beat so soundly that they have no time for "showing off" with fancy patterns and things to keep short attention spans focused. They just sit down. Play it, own it, and move on. Sadly, this run doesn't quite capture that feeling for me. Running into walls is never really entertaining. I merely enjoy the lack of unnecessary movement. I will refrain from voting. I would like to see a more combat-oriented game run in such fashion. Like an RPG or metroidvania style game.

Is it a bad sign that I find the submission text more entertaining than the video? Not voting.

The Japanese version has less characters, so the text goes faster. An English TAS would be slower.

Your argument is invalid. I don't think this run should be denied simply on grounds of language. It's way too impressive! I was scratching my head for a bit at the Doctor fight, trying to figure out what was strange about it...

Do you have numbers how much dog-hat and curly-hat slow you down?
They don't.
Technically speaking, "Curly Hat" I assume meaning that you rescue Curly, does slow you down a fair amount - IF you are going for the normal/Mimiga ending. Only due to sidequests for the good ending, just having her doesn't affect motion speed. "Dog Hat" or the Mimiga mask is required for the portion it is used in any run, and thus only slows you down as much as the game requires (No Booster 0.8 or 2.0). However, if going for the alternate normal ending with the mask, I assume it would slow the normal ending a fair amount. tldr; In this run, Lex got it right. They don't.

Edit: On the topic of 100% runs. Why not take the "Polar Star Challenge" for a spin? Minimal items are obtained, and the Polar Star is the only usable weapon. It would probably be classed a low% run. May be boring to watch, though.
I would like to see a "Bubbler" challenge, that weapon is extremely hard to use and to keep level 3... XD
From dabbling in challenge runs of Cave Story, including some hacked versions, the Polar Star Challenge is generally considered the minimalist approach. A better challenge run would be to hack in the Nemesis, and force it to level 3... 1 damage, short range ducks. Pewpew. If published, I think a spoiler warning is in order (possibly with a link to the game download). Since this run gets the good ending and saves Curly, it detracts from most players' "first run" where they do not save her. Easily the saddest part of the entire game.

The translation for the original Windows version of Cave Story is not official. However, a port for the Nintendo Wii was made with an official translation. (As well as "updated graphics" and remixed music(?). Some players, myself included, are not partial to this official translation for a multitude of reasons. Most prominently: "Huzzah!" - Fan translation. Very famous catch phrase of Balrog. (The toaster/lunch box.) "Oh yeah!" - Official translation. Mr. Kool-Aid knockoff? Bleh. Edit: On the topic of 100% runs. Why not take the "Polar Star Challenge" for a spin? Minimal items are obtained, and the Polar Star is the only usable weapon. It would probably be classed a low% run.
