I would probably be voting "no" if not for the scene in the middle with the kidnapped family, and the hilariously bad English.
Yeah I liked the Engrish: "Keep Coming! You and family will die" ;-)

What can you say about a run that obsoletes an already remarkable predecessor? I like especially how you always see that the game is dominated despite its sedate controls.

A really likable, trashy game. I like the guy saying "welcome to your doom" with his thick indian (?) accent :)

I found this even more entertaining in some parts than the "normal" SMW tas. Flying with the cape may be quicker, but it takes less artistic creativity. Nice movie!

I was rather suprised that I never heard of this game before. Though it's obviously directed at children, the run is entertaining. Voting yes. @JXQ: Well in this game, you have the same "problem" that you have in every 2 player game mode that is run by a single person: it never looks quite like it was actually done by 2 players (another example of this is Contra 3)

Looks very nice. Generally, Mario games make for very watchable, entertaining speedruns.

i stumbled upon the following link http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6204903272262158881 is this some kind of hack? It looks like this is originally from a chinese site, and has been (lamely) redubbed. I'm not sure, but this looks definitely ... interesting. Unplayable, though ;)

personally, i prefer TAS to normal speed runs any time. it's simply very entertaining to see someone beat a game without a single mistake, especially if i have played the game myself before. i readily admit that i just want watch the best possible result. i often visit speeddemosarchive.com because they have many newer games that aren't dealt with on THIS site. but as soon as there is a TAS of a game, i don't bother watching the "normal" speed run anymore. however, it's unnecessary to beat each others heads in for that ;)

i've seen a non tool assisted speed run of this game (from http://speeddemosarchive.com). it had a time of about 32 minutes. with the help of tools, i'm sure it can cut by about 4 or 5 minutes.

wether a suboptimal character qualifies for a speed run wasn't my point (obviously it does, e.g. in SMB 2 japan with luigi).... crux of the matter is that i doubt it will be exciting to focus on a character which isn't available all the time. well, maybe a short demo of any level might change my mind.....i admit i have no real idea yet how a yoshi run could differ greatly from an "ordinary" super mario world TAS.

if you are interested in some of the basics you might want to check books on cryptography or discrete mathematics.

i'm still not sure wether this run would be *really* interesting. well there *are* published movies here with very interesting variations like "never press the 'run' button" or "use princess only". although you might be able to pull off some cool tricks, if you'd start to say "using yoshi constantly, except for ghost houses, and castles, and boss fights and occasion XY", that particular run would become a bit pointless in my opinion

does this problem exist in the .AVI-version of this TAS either?

i'm running linux suse 10 and i'd like to use VBA. problem is: i can play GB games flawlessly, however the emulator menu doesn't seem to work. on screenshots for the windows version there always was a menu... second probkem i used VBA for linux from the official VBA site, since "our" customized version is windows-only. any ideas how to get it to run? which buttons do i use to actually slow down the game? (readme didn't help) i should also add that i'm pretty much a linux newbie!

i think there might be one opportunity to save a few frames..... when mario gets the very first star he abuses a glitch with a "bomb enemy". before he grabs this enemy, he first bumps into it and then bounces back a bit. i just thought you might be able to avoid bouncing back.... besides that i don't really see any room for improvement, unless there were some stars which would prove to offer a shorter route. very entertaining run, although i think that game designer who thought that having mario shout "yahoo" every time he jumps was a good idea deserves a serious beating :P

I've seen the run. It was well played, except the parts where the player's computer lagged. It could have been faster if he can avoid getting pinned down.
yeah i disliked the lag either. however, i highly respect everyone who can speed run a game without tool assistance and i doubt that flawless runs are possible for such a long game. in my opinion TAS require diligence rather than training and talent.

as far as i understand stars are for the best movies, aren't they? for me the most entertaining runs are best! while certain runs like e.g. rockman for NES approximate technical perfection, they are almost unwatchable (no offense intended). summed up i'd give spezaffer's run that star any time even if it is not perfect to the last frame.

i haven't played it myself yet, but the run is not as dark as i thought

dunno if this counts as "other console" ... has any of you seen the speed run for doom 3 (pc) yet? http://speeddemosarchive.com/Doom3.html well it's straight forward action but at this point the graphics are impressive enough to make it a quite diverting run. the storyline however will propably never win an acadamy award ;)

i'm not sure about whether it is really shorter, but i once saw a (not tool assisted) speedrun which got two stars much more quickly than e.g. spezzafer's 16th star. that other guy only needed maybe only 20 seconds for each of it. i don't know the name of the level....mario slides down a slope, and by jumping over the balustrade the "race" can be shortend dramatically. there is a catchy, whisteling background melody. i'm sure you checked all possibilities very thoroughly and i might be wrong, but it's just an idea ;) besides that, a very artistic and entertaining run!

well i'd definetly like to see wario land because it's a fun and easy game with good graphics. i will also appreciate castlevania adventure, mostly because the controls SUCK! when i played it 10 years ago, i hardly got beyond the first level. i once made to level 3 but got killed quickly by the wall of spikes >:-( anyways, while it would be very satisfying to see it beaten, i don't think this will make a fun run to watch, since the player character moves and jumps like a ten ton weight were tied to his feet

concerning gameplay, this must be one of the sickest games i've seen so far. if i interpret that oddly translated homepage right, only 14 people have completed this game by now. wouldn't suprise me, it seems to be suited for the hard among the hardcore gamers only ;)
