Just posting this because it beats the 96-exit speed run by 30 in game seconds. I'm using a yoshi and I don't have a cape, but I think if someone does a new run, this might be useful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hZFM_9fqsM Don't comment on the video, comment on the forum. I also found a new speed trick while doing this if its helpful to anyone. Since I needed to maintain sprinting speed, I couldn't do the hopping glitch. Instead, while in air, I let go 2 frames before hitting subpixel 49, held it like that for 5 frames, then I started moving again to keep my running speed for 5 frames, then repeat. What I'm trying to say is I let go of > for 5 frames, pressed > for 5 frames, and repeat. This changes the running pattern to 49(x6), 48, 47, 48, 47, repeat. I might be slightly off with that. If you let go for 6 frames, mario's speed will fall to 46 for one frame, and it'll take longer to get it back to 49. I cannot find the microstorage because I haven't had to use in it months, but if someone could post a link that would be great.

I'm not sure if these are new, but I'm posting them anyway. Teleporting If you hold left and right at the same time, Samson will move to the right. If it is at the beginning of a level, or a new screen, or the start of a vertical area, scrolling will stop. You cannot do this in a vertical area Now that scrolling has stopped, go to the end of the screen, jump, and let go of the arrow keys. This will teleport you to the center of the screen to where ever your Y position was. This might possibly be useful, but its unlikely. If someone makes a hack, it could come in handy though. Falling a few frames before This can only be done after you get all four characters Start out as the Mouse, and then before you fall off, change to the dragon. While changing into the dragon, hold A and you'll notice that the Dragon is flying a few frames below the ground. This allows you to fall around four frames under where you would normally.

I saw the article called SuperMarioWorldTricks, and I thought it was really useful, but it leaves out a few things. Here's the original article: http://www.tasvideos.org/SuperMarioWorldTricks.html Speed falling while flying backwards When your flying and your using the speed glitch to maintain 51 subpixels, you cannot press forward or you will loose speed. This is bad because you may have to fall quickly or you might hit a wall, miss a block, ect. So use the turn around while flying glitch, and when your turned around, press ← and → at the same time and you will fall quickly, but loose no speed. To use that fall to gain hight, turn around while falling again, and then press ← (or → depending on which direction your moving) for 11 frames, and you'll keep your speed of 51. Fly While Moving backwards When you are moving backwards and flying, you can actually still catch air. If you are catching air normally, and not using the glitch, press the opposite run button (either X or Y). Now if Mario is facing an angle lower that 180 degrees, simply press the direction you wish to move for 9 frames, then press the opposite run button (Either X or Y) and you'll catch air. If you want to use the air catching glitch, press the direction you moving for 1 frame, let go for 3, press it for another 1 frame, and then press the opposite run button (again, either X or Y) Mid-air shell jump First off, you cannot be using the hopping glitch while doing this. You also cannot be moving upwards, or downwards too fast. When you gain sprinting speed, jump into the air for however many frames. When you are at a good angle, press ← for one frame, → for 7 frames, then throw the shell. If done right you will land on the shell while its moving in midair Key jumping (improved) In the original article, it says that key jumping can only be done near a wall. Untrue. It's actually very easy to do without a wall. While you are still moving upwards, but slowing down, let go of the key. Now move yourself towards the key and just land on it, jump off of it and grab the key, and repeat. This is a very common technique, and I'm surprised that it wasn't listed before. Staying on ceilings with yoshi If you find a ceiling while on yoshi, you can stay on that ceiling as long as you want. 2-4 frames before hitting the ceiling, press A for one frame, let go for one frame, and repeat. You can move around while doing this, but very slowly Jumping through sprite platforms with springboard First off, sprite platforms include turn block moving bridges, grey falling platforms, timed lifts, ect. Immobile sprite blocks include light switches, message blocks, and the unused sprites, invisible used block. To go through these platforms, just throw the springboard up in the air so that it will land on the sprite, and make it land on you. This will make Mario jump off of the springboard, but fall right through the platforms. You'll know it is a sprite block if it is either moving, or you can throw items through it. Spring board Y axis speed abuse I'm not talking about portable springboards, I'm talking about the green platforms you find in the first level of the special world. If you jump a few frames below a green spring board, it will pull you upwards. This can save very few frames. Invincible Goomba If you normally throw a goomba at an enemy, it kills itself. If you throw it 3-4 frames before hitting the enemy, it will kill the enemy, but stay alive. This does not work on enemies that die in a poof of smoke

Ok, just a note, these are very lazy TASes, and i put them together in around half an hour all together. ignore the mistakes, just watch the wall jumps http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/344488160/Super%20Mario%20World%202%20-%20Yoshi's%20Island%20(E)%20(M3)%20(V1.0)%20[!]%20wall%20jump.smv http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1386065899/Super%20Mario%20World%202%20-%20Yoshi's%20Island%20(E)%20(M3)%20(V1.0)%20[!]%20wall%20jump%202.smv

actually, i meant two improvements, but either way, I'll post a .smv later. Just to clarify though, I am using a certain version of snes9x that doesn't mess up recordings, so you will only be able to play the smv on that emulator. I'm aware it takes a little longer to start up than other emulators, but i would rather have it come out without any desyncs than having to edit the smv here's the link to the emulator: http://snes9x-rr.googlecode.com/files/snes9x-1.51-rerecording-v6-win32-lua51dll.zip

I actually see 3 improvement that can save a few seconds all together As few people know, it's possible to wall jump in YI, so you can improve it in 1-2 and in 1-4. Instead of having to jump to the floating platform in order to skip the helicopter yoshi, you can actually just wall jump up one of the walls at the bottom. This way you don't have to flutter jump and waste time. In 1-4, I think the wall jump areas are very obvious No, I didn't watch the video all the way through, I only watched until 1-5, so there may be other places you can wall jump.

I actually might want to do that. Just one question though, should I do every level, or should I skip a few unneeded levels and use the cloud?

yeah i've seen that video I'm not sure when time starts exactly though, so I'm not sure if I beat him (but judging by watching his video, he beat me) From where I'm starting the timer, is Mario's first movement on the map, to the the frame where bowser get's hit by the last fireball might be from start up to the game until last fireball, but I don't know

-Yeah, I did try doing that, but it was slower. I needed that shell to jump the piranha plants, and it would take more time overall. -I noticed that, but only after finishing the tas. -Actually, as far as I know, you can wall jump off because it bounces you off before you have a chance -Wall jumping to get up there? I guess you could if you tried one wall wall jumping, but that would take longer -Yes, that glitch does work in this version, but I couldn't position Mario correctly, or it would just push him back and not save any time at all. -That wall jump at the end, I'm not sure if it is avoidable, because I couldn't land on the first pipe for the life of me. -The only way Mario can go through wall like I did, is if there is a ceiling directly above the wall you walk through. The reason is you need a ceiling is because Mario's head has to be in a wall to push him to the right. Without that, all you can do is a wall jump.

"No acceptable movie file found in the ZIP" It's suggestions are "Do not put text files in your zip file. You should write your submission notes in the appropriate field on the submission form, not in a separate text file. Do not put ROMs in your zip file. Do not put subdirectories in your zip file. Ensure that your movies begin from power-on, not a savestate, as told in the rules." I've been submitting a Zip file with a smv fil inside, and that's it. Should I be submitting a different type of video file?

I just completed Super Mario Bros 3 on All-stars for snes, and got 10 minutes and 15 seconds. For some reason, when i submit it, it just won't submit. In the Zip file, all I have is the .smv file, but the site won't take it. Am I doing something wrong?
