I was actually testing out a run of this on SNES, I dont know what the differences are btwn them, but it looks like you've got me beat :) If I'd known Scar was such a hassle I never would have even tried...

I have done a metal slug 100% kills run, I dont know if this was an official collecting thread or anything ... but I thought I'd throw that out there! When I finished it Bisqwit said he hadn't heard of it or neo-geo (IIRC) but I think it may be up at speedruns.org.

just taking a look at your movie, it looks great! I can tell when i've been one upped.. but watching it reminds me of all the little things i wanted to fix in mine :) so maybe I'll be redoing mine, since yours beats me in time anyway. You're probably right about the windmill star, and I'm not sure about the super sword but it may help more than I think. back to the drawing board...

I'd prefer to see this game in its entirety with a slightly worse time than to have the risk of desync in famtasia. A few seconds here and there doesn't matter too much outside of competitions. That said, don't do something if you know you can do it better!

I did the first couple levels and it looks ok... nothing spectacular, but for a completist or fan of the game it could certainly be worthwhile.

thanks VG. :) B, I know what you're seeing in 1-1B and that is one of these little couple-frame pauses that unfortunately are not optimized - but in reality they only add up to like a single second. Waiting for the throwing star is almost always so it won't be caught, so it can hit more enemies later on without a full stop to launch another one. If I use the sword it's like 15 frames of stationary animation, whether I am landing from a jump or not. So yeah, it's better to wait for the throwing star in that case and most others. Thanks for watching :) edit: for clarification, when I say that it is not optimized, I mean just the button pushing at that frame. The movements and paths are optimized. You could go through the same path as me and if you did EVERY movement EVERY time at the earliest possible moment you would save yourself a fat second and a half or something.

Heh we got pretty good.... but unlimited continues was definitely used. I don't know how far I could get with 5 lives, probably about wave 8-10 sounds right. Once I came home too drunk and couldn't sleep, so I sat down and played through 100 waves of robotron! I stopped at 100 because i was going insane.

my snake rattle n roll run actually crashed right after the last boss, no credits, so thats not really necessary, but I haven't watched this game yet. I remember it being fun to play but I don't really think of it as something I'd like to watch in its entirety.

Well I don't mind but I only have a couple vids. These are already in the public domain really, aren't they? I'm sure no one here has any problem with it but all the same it would be wise to wait for a general consensus from the people here. Good luck with your site!

I dunno angerfist.. that's always been the answer before. why should it be any different now? But I am seeeeriously glad this is still going, I can't wait. Bisqwit do you think it is going to be as glitch-tastic as your rockman 1? I've seen a couple movies but its hard to gauge just how much outside the box playing is really going to be there.

I actually started doing this game, it's quite fun. Buuut, it would take some doing to make sure the path is actually the fastest. It is cool though, scooting along, punching everything in my way... why don't you do the run if you know the game? Too old?! That's no excuse!

yeah.. i played the original arcade version on the smash pack for dreamcast, and around wave 80 or so we were dying like 5 or 6 times per wave. There was simply no way to avoid it without superhuman reflexes....which we now have. I'd like to see a video of this as long as it wasn't some weak version of the game. I'd like to see the original..

I searched the board and didn't find any evidence of a full SMB2 run without any warps or anything, other than the recently submitted one that was rejected for being weak. Is this in progress by anybody? I would like to do it if not... I find warpless runs interesting as you get to see every stage done as fast as possible as opposed to the game as a whole.

can you give me anything specific? There are small pauses now and again but they were as far as I can tell all faster than alternatives.

In snake rattle n roll, you get different amounts of tail for the different colors of pibbles, and they come out randomly. but the direction i was moving, facing, etc at that moment as well as before it pops out all affected the color. I had to do a ton of dancing on the water level to get the right stuff. It explains almost all my .. erratic actions in that run. Blaster master was mostly timing, some kind of framecount dependent randomizer.

i'm not an expert or anything... but wouldn't some kind of direct frame capture thing like camtasia work? I mean, i have audio recorders that capture whatever goes to the speakers, surely there is something that can capture whatever goes to the monitor. it could run in the background while dosbox goes, or you could hotkey it somehow.

I know you're not an amateur but you might still check the rom and make sure it's not some weak one. Try replaying and resuming your movie with a different rom with a different byte count, it could be corruption or stuff like that. Although.. I did have the op code problem with snake rattle & roll though it was at the very end of the game. I hope you get it fixed cause I love strider! I almost made a run myself but I was not too experienced with the full game and its various tricks.

Looks like this kinda dropped off the face of the earth. I don't know if there is already one out there but I just did the first two levels of this and it looks all right. Anything I should know about this? It's a little frustrating because enemies don't launch you and special weapons don't seem to do extra damage to the bosses. Not to mention the lack of ghost ninjas!!! But a little fancy windmill star work makes the stages go a little quicker. Are there any glitches/special strategies etc I should know about?

You guys should listen to: The Minibosses The Advantage Both are NES cover bands. Minibosses have a 9 minute song each for mega man 2 and castlevania three, interpreted in a kind of heavy rock style. The Advantage has a more indie quality to it, covering all sorts of stuff from blaster master to bionic commando. It's seriously really, really good stuff, see if you can get it anywhere.

Check out the 4-player adapter... costs 50 bucks but if i understand correctly it does the job of any of those controllers - you can plug in any controller and use it, without any USB adaptation in the controller itself. I might actually get that thing, despite its high cost. Not only would it be good for playing NES games, but imagine playing all sorts of games with friends, emulating arcade games and all having your own controller, it would be pretty incredible. I imagine they work fine with OSX too.
