Commando Man with Bass was in 1:14:05 (Compared to Mega Man's 1:39.73). Here's Blade Man in 1:12.41 (MM 1:40.21). Link to video

Yes. Bass will be even more efficient with that route because his Treble Boost eliminates the need to visit the shop for a beat call or spike guard. @kujakiller I notice minor graphical discrepancies every now and then, but it's nothing distracting.

Yeah I tried this theory already. The game simply doesn't accept 60hz firing, even with 2 fire buttons. Regardless of which fire button you use, they both must be released to fire again. Also, I think I found what I was doing wrong to make the small encodes. This should be fixed with the next WIP.

Probably not. They aren't that exciting and can only be played by Mega Man in the Time Trials. The only reason to TAS those levels would be if one was interested in the lowest possible time.

@Mister Epic Here @DarkKobold Yeah, I figured as much. I was just curious if you could ballpark it though. Not looking for an exact figure.

Hmm. It looks like the SDA run has a sub 8 hour finish time. Any idea what this TAS would be if it were timed in the same manner?

Haha I actually have no idea. Something I'm doing wrong with encoding or uploading. It looks alright in full screen, though.

Well, I tried TAS'ing a few other games on the Dolphin, but I don't think I'm ready to leave MM10 just yet. I already know the ins and outs of this game, so using my published run as a verifiable save, I've begun my TAS through Hard Mode with Bass. For those unfamiliar with Bass, here are the facts: He can dash. --He dash momentum is retained while jumping. His buster is 8-directional and automatic. --While firing the auto-buster, he can no longer run. He can still jump and fire, though. --This auto-buster is half as powerful as the regular buster. --Up to 4 shots can be on the screen at once. He has Treble instead of Rush. --Treble does not need to reach the ground to be activated. --While fused with Treble: ---He can fly in any direction (subject to slow acceleration). ---Shoots a 3-directional buster. Only 1 triple shot on the screen at a time. ---Suffers no push-back effect from taking damage. A lot of things in there that are beneficial to a speed run. Obviously the dash, but also the no push-back effect and flying Treble form. Anytime I need to take damage to save time, I can fuse with Treble slightly before the hit, and continue on at regular speed. Also, another great trick I found, is while in his purple Treble Suit (without fusing with Treble), he can fire the regular Mega Buster that Mega Man uses. This means upgraded damage and mobility. I only need to call Treble down, and not fuse with him to take advantage of this. Check this WIP of Commando Man's stage to see all of these tricks in use. Link to video

I tried all the buttons today, just to confirm. As stated, you can't skip cutscenes on the first playthrough.

Phew. Huge sigh of relief there. Was about to be really pissed off. But that makes perfect sense. Also means a Hard Mode run will automatically save 40 seconds.

Hmm. It turns out there's a way to skip cutscenes on the console. I tried to skip them on the Dolphin but nothing worked. If it turns out I was just doing it wrong, then this run is improvable by about 40 seconds by simply skipping cutscenes. :(

Nice improvement! Voted yes. I like the parts where he jumps upwards faster than the screen can scroll. If possible, can you provide a table to show frames improved per level compared to your current publication? Thanks.

Now that this is published, the following pages should be updated to reflect the Dolphin's status: http://tasvideos.org/Movies.html http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources.html http://tasvideos.org/EmulatorResources/PotentialEmulators.html

Well, to be fair, the vast majority of those comments are: "wwww" - lol "えええ" - yes yes yes "おおお" - oh oh oh "?!?!?!" - ?!?!?! The rest are comments which mostly seem to have nothing to do with the TAS, but I blame the crappy google translator for that. Such as this one: "厨とアンチのせいで人が減る" - With fewer people because of the anti-kitchen ?!?!?!

Looks like this run is branching out a little bit. Go Nintendo Capcom-Unity And of course, Nicovideo, where it has over 100k views. o_O

That's not to say I didn't try, though. I tried a a lot of unorthodox ways to coax the game into glitching, but from what I've seen, this game is largely glitch-free. Here's to hoping for a chill spike zip someday!

There are no speed/entertainment trade-offs in this TAS. There were times it was close (within 5 frames), but taking damage was never faster than avoiding it. Mothrayas answered mklips Wily 2 question, and I will mention this when I edit the submission text. Here are a couple screenshots for more variety of levels. Frame 5166 Frame 41160-ish @sgrunt Is it possible for the encode to scroll through the pop-ups after the credits roll? Right now, it ends on "84 Wily Machine N", which is kind of lackluster. A more fitting end would be to click through 1 pop-up every 300 frames or so until the final in-game time is displayed. This will also show all the extra achievements I've unlocked. The pop-ups shown at the end are: -84 Wily Machine N -87 Wily Capsule N -Whomp Wily -Blue Bomber -No Coffee Break -Tenacious -Invincible -Mr. Perfect -Clear Time 00:20:04 New Record!

Well, I could have zipped through that segment using only the concrete shot, but there's a few problems. First, there can only be 3 concrete blocks on the screen at time. I go to the weapon menu to reset the blocks and zip again. Without that, I can't zip again until the screen clears the concrete block. Second, I'll very quickly run out of Concrete shots. The C. shot consumes the enemy and will never yield any drops. This means no refills. I switch to a different weapon to kill an enemy and force a refill to continue zipping. Without those two problems, I wouldn't have to pause at all after changing to C. shot.

@sgrunt Could you actually set the rerecord count back to unknown, please? I used a pre-bug fix revision for aout 80% of the run. In addition, the way I've been recording is figure out the path I want take for a segment, writing down frame numbers, and then starting from the beginning of the segment and run through with minimal rerecords. If I made a mistake, I would export the recording and try again. This would result in an innacurate count, but I found it neccessary to avoid desyncs. The actul rerecord count is much higher.

Dolphin doesn't utilize four cores as far as I know. And since when TASing you don't need full speed emulation (you'll probably be frame advancing, right?), you should be alright with a lower spec computer. As for which revision to use, r7323 was the one that fixed a few desyncing problems that were introduced by r7318, and then r7504 fixed a few more as well as a rerecord counting bug. I just finished a Wii TAS and I started it using r7302. About halfway through, I changed to r7506, and now I use r7553. In other words, you should be fine with the latest revision.

Yeah, I was really hoping for sub 20 minutes. But, sadly, it wasn't meant to be.
