I'm watching Hellboy right now and they just mentioned that Spear. Pretty neat.

The life reset might create a need for more killing of enemies. But the time saved in UP+A should more than make up for it.

Other than a few extra shots here and there, this looks pretty good. Of course, I don't know the game that well, so I'm looking forward to Boco's analysis. I suspect there is room for improvement though.

Well, this is interesting. Here's the deal: Press START on controller one (pauses game), press Up+A on controller two, press START on controller one. This will warp you back to the last elevator you took or the first screen if you haven't taken an elevator yet. Up side: this could save a lot of time backtracking. Down side: It resets your life to 30 with no reserve. In a time attack, this could be a huge time saver. For example, in Arc's current fast-as-possible run, he could use this trick twice to his advantage, once after grabbing the ice beam and again after defeating Kraid. EDIT: Maybe even after grabbing the Maru Mari? Now that's nitpicking!

Actually, doesn't Metroid have the Up+A trick like Zelda? Only problem is it's not a straight "continue" option, you'll have to enter a password which will take a few seconds.

IIRC in this game and in the second there are also extra E-tanks and missile tanks.
There are eight Energy Tanks to be found, but you can only hold six. There are twenty-one Missile Tanks which give you five missiles each, plus you get seventy-five for defeating Kraid and Ridley, respectively. That's a total of 255, which is the maximum allowed. So there are no "extra" Missile Tanks. SO 100% means: -killing Kraid and Ridley (150 missiles) -finding twenty-one Missile Tanks (105 missiles) -getting all eight Energy Tanks -getting Ice Beam, Wave Beam, and then the second Ice beam -all the other items (Maru Mari, Bombs, Long Beam, High Jump, Varia, Screw Attack)

One possible way is to use WINAMP. You'll need two plug-ins, one to allow WINAMP to play NSF files, and the other to record the output in MP3 format. Let me get some links for you... EDIT: OK! WINAMP, of course is at winamp.com NSF plugins are available at Zophar's Domain along with lots of NSF files. I use the "Nosefart" plug-in, but there are many choices. The output plug-in can be gotten from the WINAMP site. There are many choices. I use Justin Frankel's version. Now all you do is select the Output plug-in from the Plug-in menu, configure it so you know where the new file will be created, and play the NSF file. You won't hear anything but you will creating an MP3 of the output instead. This works with other similar WINAMP plugins, for those who have lots of SPC or GYM files.

The second Ice Beam is in Norfair among several missle upgrades. One could gather up the lot on the way out after beating Ridley. Check out Eggie's map at GameFAQs

I dig it. That was a hard game and foda beat the crap out of it. The only suggestions I have: -Try to collect the P-item in every fight. -If possible, figure out why the final battle is faster than all the others. Shouldn't there be a way to beat the others as fast?

I don't think there's enough Mega Man 1 music out there, but if you're looking for the MM3 Intro, try here: Eric's Little Shack and OC Remix Beware pop-ups and other ads.

I think it is important to catch the bird. I can see the advantage in skipping the bonus vegetables, but without grabbing the bird it's like only doing half the stage. Here's a sample of the first two mountains with the bird catching included: http://www.feitclub.com/icetest.zip

I'd like to see the door glitch happen. I remember reading about years ago in Nintendo Power. It was one of the first real "glitches" I ever heard of. Still, I think Arc has bigger fish to fry. And yes, I would be more interested in a 100% run.

(third time's a charm?) I'm am planning a run on this game, which is probably my favorite Genesis game. I'm hoping someone out there can help me plan this by sharing knowledge of any glitches, bugs, shortcuts, etc. Maps would also help. Google hasn't turned up anything useful. GameFAQs has a map of the maze level but that's about it. Thanks in advance.

Kinda fun, but not that impressive. It stopped after a few stages. I assume that was intentional. Are there any upgrades you can collect? And am I crazy or did this game have top-view stages?

The average age of the first 29 respondents is 19.97, much younger than I expected. Of course, 29 is hardly a large enough sample.

Wow. It's cool that more people are visiting the site every month, and it's even cooler that the re-design has actually reduced the bandwidth used. Great job, Bisqwit! And thank you for making all this available to others.

So, are we posting our ages or are we estimating the average age of all posters? For the record, I'm approx. 27.75 I figure the average age is in the 20s.

The bar hath been raised on this game. Great stuff. I have no complaints. Nothing seemed wasteful. Everything appears optimal. I didn't even have a problem with the invincibility abuse, but it looks cooler to see you bob and weave anyway. Can't wait to see someone top this...

The game looks great, and I have no complaints about how you played the auto-scrolling parts. Lots of dodging, bobbing, and weaving. But when the auto-scroll stops, you have to be very good, at least resembling perfect. You are not good enough at these parts. You miss many, many shots. The boss fights seem very slow, which might be the nature of the game, but it seems like you have more opportunities to shoot then you actually use. I also suggest trying the other "ships" to see if one them shoots faster than Vic. That might help.
