But to the core of your question, no, having an SRAM-anchored movie would not be enough to avoid using a separate, specific disc. Unless, of course, you allowed for modifying the SRAM to also incorporate a monster, which would allow for any arbitrary type or stats. If you wanted to allow SRAM modification as a means of bypassing using another disc altogether, I think you'd still have to share the appropriate TOC values that would resolve the monster in question. This isn't possible yet, but with a bit more reverse engineering and research probably could be.
This point is incredibly strong. We might argue with the game mechanic bringing up a lot of reasons, but if it's literally the only way to access some content, we should prefer allowing this mechanic (under certain conditions, TBD) to hacking the data used in the run that the rules disallow to hack (ROM, RAM, SRAM).

FWIW, the Pixie/Dragon "Daina" used by NK in this movie is a good monster, but possibly not the best. It is also not a "special" monster; many different discs have been found that can resolve it. Other stat seeds may lead to a better overall monster, depending on the strategy. It may not even be an optimal monster type, but it's a very wide pool to search through and strategize for.
Does this mean using a monster generator CD would allow to use a more optimal monster?

Meanwhile I'll be watching both the current publication and this submission side-by-side, verifying it's actually the thing we want it to be. Gonna be fun, since I don't know (nor like) the game. Then I'll just send the movie to Nach for embedding into the publication.

Omnigamer, NK mentioned a monster used in this movie would require a very long setup if the other disk is not used. This sounds like a case where a SRAM anchored movie might come into play. Does this sound correct? It's important to know when observing all the options of dealing with such movies and comparing their pros and cons.

Before I answer to everything, what ways to get those locked monsters in the game do we have? Are they absolutely locked and require just a certain ToC? What about SRAM, in-game cheats, passwords, other methods maybe? Emulator only methods like savestate anchors and memory poking are still disallowed I guess.

For levels that are in general bright enough, the filter may be avoided entirely. I don't think there exists a perfect solution though. You either have to pick EVERY little segment by hand, or rely on rare and imperfect tools that need a bit of tweaking, but in the end make it look decent in dark areas at least. In any case, this filter allows to only have to pick major segments and apply it to them. Unless someone has infinite time for perfecting it of course.

If the game or its manual do not give you this information explicitly, then both the password provided there, and the button combination, are banned. The footnote on the Rules page explains that codes are not limited to button combinations:
When we speak about codes that are part of a game that we allow for use in certain scenarios, we are talking about passwords that can be entered in a menu, pressing some buttons on the title screen, passing execution parameters or setting environment variables for DOS games, or anything of a similar nature. This excludes things like Game Genie codes or emulator cheating tools.
As written in the chapter I linked, those are only allowed if the game or the manual tell them to us explicitly, or if they unlock unique game content, like new levels, modes, difficulty, etc. If all they do is giving you unfair advantage, like infinite ammo, lives, energy, ability to play any level, etc, they are not allowed. So, is any of that mentioned by the game or the manual?

What exactly do you mean by "cheat codes"? TASVideos mostly means secret input combinations that unlock hidden features that give you things like infinite lives. If you access those features without cheat codes, it is okay. If you use cheat codes to access those features, it is not okay. http://tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#CheatsDebuggingCodesAndArcadeContinuesAreNotAllowed

I updated the rules. The very fact that the cheat code is not used means it is allowed to use the features it provides. The rules only ban use of those cheat codes that give unfair advantage. If unfair advantage is gained by legitimate in-game glitches, it makes no sense to ban them just because they also happen to be hidden behind the code.

So I was looking at the manual and the only game explicitly mentioned as a monster source was Monster Rancher 1. If the publisher of this game explicitly encourages using "Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 14" for this game to grab monsters from, then it is allowed. If not, it is not allowed. We can not possibly handle arbitrary images used in movies, we should only limit ourselves to images that are intended for use with a game. So far this movie looks like it should be rejected. The rules never addressed this, so I'll explain the problems that arise from using arbitrary images in the judgment. Unless someone finds the official encouragement from the publisher of this game to use the CD used here. The fact that the game constantly asks the player to try all the CDs they have doesn't mean we can allow all of them.

More common means there are more branches that use the technique. For example, for Super Mario World, there's only one branch performing "game end glitch", therefore it's the only one that has it in the label. Some technique that is common for all the branches, like Backwards Long Jump in Super Mario 64 is not mentioned in the branches that have it. Instead, the one avoiding it is called "no Backwards Long Jump".

Since we decide this by statistics, we should check which one is more common. If need be, even RTA branches may be considered. Usually avoiding some basic glitch is marked explicitly, because it's more common to have those glitches than to avoid them. Game breaking glitches are rare, so they are highlighted when they are used instead.

You can do that to verify some theories. Overall, it shouldn't be required of course. Not loading the existing states is the key.

Non-determinism means anything can happen. They don't depend on proper savestates, so they don't really use/test them. Otherwise they'd have been fixed years ago. My fix got reverted because some other consoles broke, and fixing them broke the savestates for yet other consoles. It's a mess, and you shouldn't imagine limits to what can happen. Even memory corruption in the app, and this can result in literally anything.

This branch can be considered full completion. In this game, you have to resque the family members to beat it, and you also have a single type of upgrade you can get. Each of these gets awarded to you upon beating the bosses. Using the glitch present in the any% movie also means it is a vaultable goal (not that this movie is going to be vaulted, just documenting the bookkeeping info).

The thing is, the state doesn't update a certain variable, and it changes really often. It changes how much code is executed per frame. Literally EVERY time you load a state is unique, it's impossible to get identical outcome.

We have this: [2085] DS Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow "Julius, in bounds" by Cpadolf in 19:20.63 If avoiding this trick is only present in a single branch, its absence can be called out like this.
